The Civil Defense Door slowly opened, and at first glance, Shen Yuan saw a Zombie.
There really was a Zombie!
Fortunately, there was only one, making it easy to deal with.
Hearing the sound of the door, the Zombie immediately walked over.
Shen Yuan pulled back the Slingshot, and a steel ball was launched, hitting the Zombie's head.
It exploded its head!
Next, three more steel balls were fired, finally eliminating the Zombie.
Zombies are actually quite easy to handle; their combat ability is even weaker than that of an ordinary person. The only concern is to avoid contact with their bodily fluids to prevent infection.
The Zombie here hadn't been rained on and probably hadn't eaten Mutated Beast Meat, so it hadn't mutated. Unlike the Zombies on the surface, which generally have varying degrees of mutation and are much harder to deal with.
Shen Yuan noticed that the door to the Elevator Lobby at the end of the corridor was slightly ajar, with bloodstains on it. Clearly, this Zombie had come from the Elevator Lobby, where there might be other Zombies.
"Chen Letian, find a way to open these storage room doors. Xu Lixing, go check if there are any Zombies in the Elevator Lobby. Don't be afraid; Zombies are slow. If you see one, just turn and run; I'll cover you," Shen Yuan said.
Strength equals authority.

Two Zombies chased after him, clawing wildly.
Shen Yuan's gaze was cold as he pulled out his Slingshot. Steel balls whizzed past Xu Lixing, hitting the two Zombies, taking them down before they could reach him.
“Xu Lixing, go take another look,” Shen Yuan said without changing his expression.
To say that Zombies are indeed disgusting; ordinary people would probably vomit their bile upon seeing them.
Although Shen Yuan once lived in darkness where sunlight could not reach and has seen too much ugliness and filth, he still felt a wave of nausea and a desire to vomit.
It was yesterday.
The adaptability of humans is the strongest among all living beings.
In just one day, after encountering numerous Zombies, Shen Yuan went from feeling nauseous to now remaining unfazed. He even picked up a Shovel to interact with those Zombies, absorbing the Source of Life from them.
It was almost negligible.

Xu Lixing had already run towards Shen Yuan, narrowly avoiding the Zombie's attack.
He rushed to Shen Yuan's side, leaning against the wall and gasping for breath, his eyes filled with fear and the relief of having survived.
"Xu Lixing, are you okay?" Shen Yuan shot three more steel balls, finally blowing up the Zombie. Turning around, he suddenly froze, squinting slightly, his hand instinctively raising the Slingshot while his other hand pulled a steel ball from his pocket.
He was ready to act at any moment.
Because he saw blood and mucus on Xu Lixing's neck.
He had been splattered with the Zombie's blood and mucus!
Would he turn into a Zombie?
Shen Yuan noticed Chen Letian.
He found that Chen Letian was standing behind him, silent, with his eyes fixed intently on Xu Lixing, clearly having noticed the same issue.
Shen Yuan glanced at Chen Letian but said nothing. Chen Letian slowly retreated to the Civil Defense Door, then picked up a steel bar that had been brought from the Communication Base Station.
He was ready to act at any moment.
"Xu Lixing, are you okay? Do you feel anything unusual? Like feeling hot or itchy all over? I remember you got kicked by Guo Dalong yesterday; how are you feeling now?" Shen Yuan tried to keep his voice calm and gentle, but inside he was extremely tense.
He couldn't just eliminate Xu Lixing unless Xu Lixing truly turned into a Zombie.
He has his own bottom line.

He took deep breaths, still feeling a lingering fear.
Shen Yuan silently counted the seconds in his mind.
Yesterday morning, he had witnessed someone being attacked by a Zombie and then turning into one. It took a total of ten seconds from infection to transformation.
Now, he had counted to thirty.
He had not turned into a Zombie, nor was there any sign of infection.
Was it that skin contact wouldn't cause infection, or was there some other reason? For example, did Xu Lixing eat Mutated Hen Meat and then get caught in a heavy rain that contained the Source of Life, which prevented him from being infected?
Shen Yuan didn't know.
He wasn't even sure if Xu Lixing was temporarily immune to infection or if the time just hadn't come yet.
It was only the second day of the apocalypse, and he had too many questions and uncertainties. He had seen a Mutant Mouse eat Zombie meat and remain fine for several hours. The problem was that Zombies were originally caused by Mutant Mice, so it was normal for them to be unaffected; it didn't explain anything.
He didn't want to give up on Xu Lixing, but he also didn't dare to take any risks.
