"There shouldn't be any Zombies in these storage rooms. That Evacuation Passage we just saw is too small. Zhang Huanxue can find any room in the middle of the hallway; we need to protect her since she's a girl. Xu Lixing, you take the room near the Elevator Lobby. As a man, you should guard the other side! As long as we keep the Elevator Lobby door closed, Zombies can't get in!"
Seeing Xu Lixing hesitate, clearly frightened by what had just happened, Shen Yuan quickly reassured him, "Xu Lixing, don't be afraid. We'll check the Elevator Lobby and eliminate all the Zombies there before closing all the doors. It will be safe."

But he didn't show it; instead, he simply nodded in agreement.
The situation was stronger than any individual.
He was slim and weak and couldn't compete with Chen Letian or speak as well as he did to curry favor with Shen Yuan. Unable to resist, he had no choice but to comply.
The group continued their cooperation while Shen Yuan and Chen Letian kept a close watch on Xu Lixing, observing him until they exchanged relieved glances.
There were no signs of infection or mutation; they were at least ninety percent sure that Xu Lixing wouldn't turn into a Zombie.
In the end, Shen Yuan and Xu Lixing carefully checked the Elevator Lobby and confirmed there were no more Zombies. Chen Letian also opened all the storage rooms, finding quite a few useful items inside.
For example, there were a dozen boxes of instant noodles and bottled water, a large pile of packaged Cooked Beef, a box of High-Intensity Flashlights, and two boxes of candles.
Of course, there were even more clothes, all kinds of clothes. The first and second floors of Wanlai Plaza were clothing stores, the third and fourth floors were restaurants, and the fifth floor housed a cinema and leisure club. Naturally, the storage room had the most clothes.
All items were divided among the people—well, A Hu counted as one share too.
In the end, half of the useful supplies were moved to the Evacuation Passage, while the other half was divided among Chen Letian, Xu Lixing, and Zhang Huanxue.
Then they each closed their doors.
They all needed to rest well.
They hadn't rested much last night.
The Civil Defense Doors on both sides were tightly shut and sealed from the inside; it was really safe here.
If this place wasn't safe, then there wouldn't be many safe places left in Pengcheng.
Shen Yuan was really tired; he hadn't rested much for over a day. So after having dinner, he leaned against the wall and fell asleep.
He slept until he naturally woke up.

The Source of Life seems unable to be absorbed in large quantities at once. If too much is absorbed, he feels an overwhelming heat throughout his body, as if being boiled alive, which is unbearable.
This is likely the limit of absorption.
It represents a natural restriction on the speed of evolution.
A Hu drank some water, then sniffed at the food before finally coming to Shen Yuan, staring intently at him with wide eyes...

A Hu caught the scale and once again opened and closed its mouth. In just a few seconds, it surprisingly made a crunching sound as it crushed the scale and swallowed it.
Its teeth were indeed so strong and sharp!
Next, it picked up the scale it had just discarded and placed it in Shen Yuan's hand, staring at Shen Yuan with wide eyes as if trying to communicate.
"You can't bite through the scales, so you hope that after I absorb some Source of Life, I can give you some to eat? Because after I absorb part of the Source of Life, the scales will become weaker?" Shen Yuan understood A Hu's meaning and was once again amazed by its cleverness.
Tabby Cats were not known for their intelligence, and A Hu had never shown such cleverness before. Clearly, evolution was changing not only its physical form but also its intellect.

He then handed it to A Hu.
The crunching sound echoed once more.
About a minute later, A Hu crushed the scale into pieces again and swallowed it, looking back at Shen Yuan.
One person and one cat, just like that, half for you and half for me, they ate a total of twenty scales.
Shen Yuan felt a warmth spread through his body, knowing he couldn't eat anymore. A Hu also ran to Chi Qinghua's side, lying down next to him, and then...
Fell asleep.
It finally fell asleep.
Since he saw it wake up early yesterday, it had been awake the whole time, guarding Chi Qinghua and also watching over Shen Yuan. Even injured, it stayed by their side until now.
"Sleep well, rest well. Let me guard you both," Shen Yuan whispered softly.
Feeling bored, he took out all the steel balls, activating them one by one.
In the end, he activated all the steel balls when suddenly he heard a groan.
His heart rate instantly shot up to one hundred and twenty.
He turned his head and saw A Hu waking up. He noticed that the previously unconscious Chi Qinghua moved his fingers and then opened his eyes.
Shen Yuan's lips curled into a slight smile.
