"Boss, good news, good news!" Chen Letian ran over, followed by a dejected Skinny Guy. "Boss, this kid says he used to operate excavators and graduated from Lanxiang! You tell him!"
Skinny Guy quickly nodded and smiled ingratiatingly. "Shen Ge, before the apocalypse, there was a construction site in Zhangjia Town where I operated excavators and bulldozers. That site was destroyed by the earthquake, but the excavators and bulldozers were outside at the Construction Site. I checked yesterday, and they are still usable; I have the keys. Chen Ge said you need people to clear debris and obstacles from the roads; I'm good at that!"
Chen Letian's eyes widened. "What Chen Ge? Call me Brother Tian!"
He was burly, nearly six feet tall and close to two hundred pounds, with eyes bulging wide like a fierce warrior. Skinny Guy was so startled that his legs went weak, almost collapsing.
Shen Yuan looked at Skinny Guy a few times and felt that this kid should be harmless; his level of evolution was probably low, similar to an ordinary person, posing no threat. Given his timid demeanor, he likely didn't have any bad intentions. Shen Yuan nodded and said, "You go get the excavator and bulldozer; we’ll start working early tomorrow to clear the road from here to National Highway 104."
Skinny Guy mustered his courage to ask, "Shen Ge, are you coming from Pengcheng? Are you going to Suicheng? The roads must be blocked in many places due to the earthquake. Why not let me tag along? I can help with anything along the way! I guarantee I'll clear a path for you!"
Shen Yuan remained noncommittal: "We'll see."
By noon, people began returning one after another. The scavengers had to hand in what they collected before having a meal and resting for a while before continuing their scavenging in the afternoon.
Some already knew about the changes at the police station; others were still unaware.
Chen Letian was busy bustling around, pulling Xu Lixing along to enjoy being the boss, instructing this one and settling that one. Surprisingly, this kid was quite capable; by the end of it all, every scavenger who returned seemed to respect him on the surface, calling him "Brother Tian."
When mealtime arrived, Chen Letian prepared dishes using food collected by the scavengers, adding Mutated Sparrow Meat for a feast more sumptuous than before.
Of course, only they got to eat the Mutated Sparrow Meat; the original Survivors of Zhangjia Town could only watch enviously.
Regarding Shen Yuan's actions, some Survivors of Zhangjia Town felt it was good since it was certainly better than how Guo Zuo treated them. However, others believed Shen Yuan did not treat them equally since he didn’t share any Mutated Beast Meat with them.
There will always be greedy people; it's not surprising.
As long as these people had ill intentions but lacked courage, Shen Yuan would not notice or care. But if someone truly tried something, Shen Yuan would definitely make them regret it!
In the afternoon, Chen Letian sent all the scavengers out and then took a High-Powered Telescope he obtained from Guo Zuo to climb up to the rooftop of the three-story police station. He pretended to observe everything around him, claiming he was helping Shen Yuan scout for information and find the best route for passage.
Later on, he pulled Skinny Guy aside and asked him to teach him how to operate an excavator and bulldozer. This kid had a good plan in mind; once Chen Letian learned how to operate those machines, Skinny Guy's value would essentially drop to zero. At that point, he could be discarded without fear of him raising his price.
Zhang Huanxue pulled Wei Luhe, gathering all the women together to counsel and reassure them, telling them not to worry. Then, he called Wei Jiankang to treat them.
These individuals had been severely abused, and each bore some injuries. Although Wei Jiankang was kind-hearted, he would not sacrifice his own blood to heal them. Fortunately, scavengers had brought back a considerable amount of medicine from hospitals, health clinics, and small pharmacies, allowing Wei Jiankang to prescribe appropriate treatments.
Subsequently, Chen Letian found Wei Jiankang and asked him to select the most essential and rare medicines from the supplies, taking two-thirds of them and placing them in the Box Truck.
They were ultimately going to leave this place and head to Suicheng as per their plan, so it was wise to prepare some supplies in advance.
Even if they couldn't use these medicines themselves, they could find ways to trade them. In the apocalypse, medicines were as precious as food; as long as they found Survivors, they wouldn't have to worry about selling them.
When tired or sleepy, they would rest in the truck's cabin. These few people trusted each other the most; only when they had their own people guarding the cabin could they sleep soundly.
Chi Qinghua stayed in the cabin most of the time and rarely went outside, accompanied by A Hu.
A Hu's second tail had already grown to half the length of the first one. It was estimated that within a week or two, it would fully grow out, becoming a true Nekomata. However, A Hu did not exhibit any special abilities nor could she transform into a human; her physical condition was simply improving, and her body seemed to have grown slightly—though it was hard to notice.
Shen Yuan hardly left the driver's seat.
Guo Zuo's strength put immense pressure on him.
Guo Zuo was merely the strongest in a small town, not accounting for potentially stronger Evolvers from surrounding villages. On April 1st, the entire world was shrouded in a meteor shower; countless people obtained Meteor Fragments and became the first batch of Evolvers. Guo Zuo was just one of them and likely an ordinary one at that.
On the morning of April 1st, reports emerged that a prisoner at Pengcheng Prison had killed all inmates and guards before escaping; his strength was certainly far greater than Guo Zuo's.
In this world of Survivors, many were much stronger than Shen Yuan; as for Mutant Beasts, that was another matter entirely. Even with Activation of Micro Submachine Gun or activated handguns, he could never match up against a Mutated Golden Eagle or a Terrifying Giant Snake—ten of him wouldn't be enough.
The road ahead is long and has no ending; I will search high and low for it.
Shen Yuan utilized every moment and ounce of energy to absorb the Source of Life from the Snake Scales of the Mutated Black-Browed Python, constantly consuming more and feeling like he was turning into a large rice bucket.
As night fell, all scavengers returned—about a hundred people crowded into the small police station, with several individuals occupying each office.
Shen Yuan arranged for his group to take turns keeping watch while staying in the Box Truck. Chen Letian was in good spirits and sat in the excavator's cab, continuing his study of it. Xu Lixing perched in the raised bucket of a loader, always on alert.
Under the cover of night, Shen Yuan placed his left hand on the cockpit glass, guiding its repair.
Once activated, the glass could automatically repair itself, although the process was relatively slow. Shen Yuan discovered that any activated object he touched would establish a special connection with him, almost as if it were an extension of his own arm, under his control.
For instance, as long as he wished, he could even guide the Activated Dagger to slowly reshape itself into whatever form he desired; transforming it into a large pair of scissors would be no problem, though it would take a considerable amount of time.
Automatic repair was merely the first effect of activation;
Guiding shape change was the second effect.
With Shen Yuan's efforts, half an hour later, the cockpit glass was completely restored.
Shen Yuan then moved to the cabin area and began guiding the repair of the damage there.
In fact, everyone had noticed Shen Yuan's performance over these days and believed him to be an ability user. His powers could enhance the power of weapons and also strengthen the defensive capabilities of the cabin glass; however, no one spoke of it.
Having an additional ability to guide repairs would not raise any eyebrows.
After taking a short nap for two hours, Shen Yuan woke up at 11 PM and told Chen Letian and Xu Lixing to go to sleep while he took responsibility for keeping watch.
At midnight, a woman approached the cockpit and gently tapped on the window.
