Under the Tree The little girl, Little Ziyan, who had been happily busy picking mushrooms, was completely unaware that someone beside her had disappeared.
She was solely focused on gathering more mushrooms; even if she couldn't eat them all, perhaps she could sell some in Mountain Town for a little pocket money!
By the time her back ached, her legs trembled slightly, her vision blurred, and she felt dizzy with a cold sweat trickling down her neck, nearly two hours had passed.
Ziyan finally stood up, one hand on her waist while the other wiped the fine beads of sweat from her forehead, leaning against a nearby Pine Tree.
After catching her breath for a moment, she looked up at the sky and realized that the sun was now directly overhead.
At that moment, she suddenly noticed that the beautiful young man who had accompanied her earlier was nowhere to be found.
In a panic, Ziyan quickly shouted, "Hey!" There was no response. She called out again, "Hey—Gu—Yuxuan—where—are—you?" Still no answer!
This is bad! That guy actually left her all alone in this vast forest while he ran off first. No wonder he had that wicked expression before they climbed the mountain.
For a moment, feeling completely at a loss, Ziyan could only mumble to herself, her heart racing with fear!
Then she thought: What would she do if some wild beast showed up?
Feeling utterly distressed, Ziyan was thrown into chaos and grabbed her Bamboo Basket, preparing to run down the mountain.
Just as she took four or five steps, she suddenly heard a loud "bang" as her forehead collided with a solid chest.
About to scream, she looked up and let out a long sigh of relief because she had bumped into Gu Yuxuan.
"You scared me to death! Where have you been? I haven't seen you for ages!"
Ziyan shouted loudly.
Gu Yuxuan did not respond but pretended to dig in his ear with one of his fingers.
Then, casually and without urgency, he extended his hand, gesturing from above Ziyan's head to his own chest, and replied dismissively, "You're really short!"
"You—unreasonable!"
Angrily, Ziyan regained her composure and retorted coldly, "Hmph, I'm only 14 years old. I will grow taller."
"Oh, let's hope so!"
With a mischievous grin and a wicked smile, Gu Yuxuan teased her before pulling out his left hand that had been hidden behind him. He raised it, revealing a bulging cloth bag right in front of Ziyan.
Then the boy said to her, "Here, take this back to supplement your brain, or it might help you grow taller too!"
Ziyan suspiciously took the bag and opened it. "Wow!" Inside were many Wild Chicken Eggs and various unnamed Wild Bird Eggs.
Overjoyed, Ziyan thought for a moment but still handed the bag back to the boy.
"This isn't right, is it? As the saying goes, no reward without effort. Yesterday I took two of your family's wild chickens and a mountain hare. I still have two fat fish in my basket. As for these mountain chicken eggs and bird eggs, they are even more precious. You should take them back to honor Uncle Gu!"
Ziyan firmly refused.
"Take it if I tell you to take it, why so much nonsense!"
Gu Yuxuan shouted angrily, forcefully stuffing the bag full of bird eggs back into Ziyan's hands.
"Uh? Oh, okay, um—thank you, Brother Yuxuan, you’re really a good person! Since you’re such a good person, Brother Yuxuan, why not continue being one? I can't carry this basket anymore. Could you please help me carry it home?"
Ziyan's sweet and coy voice gave her goosebumps.
Gu Yuxuan lightly responded with an "mm," picked up the fully packed Bamboo Basket, and strode down another narrow path that was slightly flatter than the one they came from.
Thus, a scene appeared on this narrow path: in front was a tall young man holding a Bamboo Basket in one hand and two fish tied with grass ropes in the other;
behind him closely followed a petite girl in a light purple long dress, carrying a cloth bag and stumbling as she chased after the handsome young man, making her way down the narrow path toward the mountain.
After about three or four tea breaks, the two finally returned to the gate of Ziyan's home.
Her mother was already washing vegetables in the yard to prepare dinner.
"Mom, I'm back!"
As soon as she reached the door, Ziyan shouted loudly.
"I'm exhausted."
Then, she walked over to a bamboo stool and sat down heavily.
While busy, Zhou turned around and saw that someone was helping her daughter carry the Bamboo Basket, which was filled with various wild vegetables and other food items.
Upon closer inspection, she realized it was Gu Yuxuan, who had saved her daughter last time.
For a moment, she was taken aback, then smiled kindly and sincerely as she greeted, "Gu Yuxuan, you're here? Come, come, sit over here."
"Ahem! Auntie, I'm not a child anymore; I've already turned sixteen! You can just call me Yuxuan from now on."
Hearing Zhou call him Gu Yuxuan made several lines appear on Yuxuan's forehead.
"Oh right! It's been quite a few years since you and your father moved across the street. Back then, you were just a seven or eight-year-old kid, and now you've grown into a young man in just a few years. Time really flies! You're half a year younger than our Ziying, and at that time, our Ziyan had just turned six. Now they're all gradually growing up."
Thinking of this, Zhou couldn't help but start to ramble on with her long-winded sentiments!
So Ziyan quickly called out, "Mom!"
Zhou then realized the guest was still standing there and hurriedly moved a stool over for Gu Yuxuan to sit down. She then went into the main hall to pour a bowl of tea and brought it out to hand to Gu Yuxuan.
