The heartfelt embrace between mother and son was witnessed by the father, Kairuoka, who stood outside the Recovery Pod. He longed to rush in and join them in their reunion, but reason prevailed over impulse. He silently stood by the door, facing the wall, his eyes red, fists clenched as he pounded against the wall, unable to hide the pain that spread endlessly within him.
Kairuoka's torment was noticed by Kairou Marie, a servant who had come to visit Kairuot. She quickly set down the two large boxes of food she was carrying and approached Kairuoka, patting his back as she asked, "Sir... what happened? Are you alright?"
Kairuoka immediately turned his head, forcing his tone to remain steady as he replied, "It's nothing. Don't worry."
"Is it that Kairuot's condition has worsened?" Kairou Marie asked anxiously. "I'll go call a doctor right away!"
Kairuoka shook his head. "Don't call a doctor; Terra is fine... she's doing well."
"Then are you unwell? Is it serious...?" Kairou Marie tilted her head, seemingly observing her master's expression.
"I'm fine too. Alright, you came here to bring food for Terra, right? Let's go inside." Kairuoka avoided Kairou Marie's gaze and turned toward the direction of the patient room.
Kairou Marie quickly picked up the two large boxes of food she had set aside and followed Kairuoka into the room where the Recovery Pod was located.
As soon as Kairuot saw his father enter the room, he happily exclaimed, "Dad, Mom and I have been waiting for you for a long time!"
Kairuoka coldly responded, "What mother? Your mother didn't come today."
"I'm not talking about my stepmother," Kairuot pointed to Fair Connie beside him and said, "This is my real mom."
Kairuoka lowered his eyes briefly to conceal his panic before looking up to tell him, "It seems my Terra is not in her right mind, son. She is your Dean of Academic Affairs."
Kairuot said, "Clearly I..."
At this moment, Fair Connie noticed the servant Kairou Marie standing behind Kairuoka, and quickly interrupted Kairuot, interjecting, "Yes, I am your Dean of Academic Affairs, Kairuot. Are you feeling dizzy?" As she spoke, she placed her hand on the boy's forehead and tried to convey a hint with her eyes.
"Mom?" Kairuot did not grasp Fair Connie's meaning. He grabbed her hand that was on his forehead and exclaimed loudly, "You are my mom! We have already recognized each other; you can't go back on this!"
"Okay, okay, I am your mom. How about I be your Godmother?" Fair Connie quickly came up with this idea—her heart was conflicted, but... the romance she had with Kairuoka was a buried secret, a taboo between two families. She could not, and dared not, admit it. It was for the sake of Terra's smooth life...
"Terra, stop messing around!" Kairuoka forcefully took Kairuot's hand away from Fair Connie, scolding loudly, "You are old enough; why are you still acting like an ignorant child?!"
A surge of anger rose in Kairuot, and he retorted loudly, "You are not a man! You can't even acknowledge the woman you love!"
Kairuoka raised his hand as if to strike Kairuot, but was stopped by Kairou Marie, who advised, "Alright, alright. It's a good thing for a child to recognize a Godmother. With Director Fei Er Connie taking care of him at school, you can rest easy..."
Fair Connie quickly chimed in to ease the tension, saying, "Kairuot recognizing me as his mom isn't a bad thing. Since I don't have any children, I will treat Kairuot as my own... I will do my best to take care of him. What do you think, Terra?"
For a moment, Kairuot was speechless, tears of grievance welling up in his eyes. But Fei Er Connie hugged him tightly, and he could only silently swallow his tears along with his growing dissatisfaction towards his father. He clenched his fists against Fei Er Connie's back tightly and finally couldn't help but shout, "Mom!!"
His cry shattered the hearts of everyone present. Kairuoka turned away, unable to meet Kairuot's gaze. Though Kairou Marie didn't fully understand the situation, thinking about how the young master lacked maternal love at home brought tears to her eyes.
Fair Connie held Kairuot tightly and couldn't help but respond loudly, "Child, you are my child!"
"Alright then, from now on I'll trouble you to take care of Terra," Kairuoka suppressed his emotions and said calmly on the surface, "Let's communicate more in the future. I have something to attend to now. Kairou Marie, you come with me; my aircraft can take you back."
Kairuoka said nothing as he resolutely walked out of the room, leaving Kairou Marie to wave goodbye and follow behind him.
Kairuoka couldn't bear to stay any longer... He feared he would lose control of his emotions; the pain in his heart was something only he understood. He silently said to himself, "Terra! I hope you can understand your father's struggles!"
