Three days later, Kairuot, Li Girl, and Giant Bell Chunmu gathered as agreed in front of Belt's clothing store.
Giant Bell Chunmu attracted quite a few glances with his tall stature. If it weren't for the large square cloth wrapped around his entire face, leaving only his eyes visible, and the fact that just two days prior, Belt personally went out of the city to tailor a Tang suit for Bel Purewood, his ugly face would have scared off a number of people and caused quite a bit of trouble in Nuzhicheng.
Belt had prepared five Camels, drinking water, and food early in the morning. When he saw Kairuot and the others arrive, he didn't invite them inside to sit but hurriedly mounted a Camel and was ready to leave. He urged, "Let's set off quickly while the weather is good; we might be able to avoid the Desert Storm."
The group followed his suggestion and mounted their Camels to begin their journey.
After leaving Nuzhicheng, they traveled for over ten miles and paused in a low area of the sand dunes to rest and drink water. At that moment, the Camels made whimpering sounds. Belt thought a sandstorm was approaching and shouted for everyone to take cover, only to discover a unicorn descending from the sky, which surprised both Belt and the Camels.
Kairuot scolded the unicorn, saying, "Didn't I tell you not to appear casually? Why did you come down?"
The unicorn began to whimper. Kairuot understood that it had come down for a drink, so he opened the water bag and held it up to the creature's mouth. After the unicorn had its fill of water, it quickly disappeared after a brief run.
Seeing the unicorn leave, Belt ran over to Kairuot and said, "With this creature around, what do you need me for as your guide?"
Kairuot replied, "It's an animal from Mars and isn't familiar with the route to Loulan Ancient City. It can only stay nearby to keep watch against any harmful creatures attacking us."
At that moment, Li Girl interjected, "We also have a giant dragon accompanying us in the sky. You were so surprised by a unicorn; if a dragon came down, it would surely scare you half to death."
"Where's the dragon...?" Belt looked up at the sky. "Although I came from Dragonfall Lodge, I've never seen a giant dragon before."
Giant Bell Chunmu chuckled and said, "If you can see it, then it's not a dragon."
Belt seemed to find this quite reasonable, nodding and saying, "Well, as long as I know there are these divine beings protecting us, I feel much more at ease."
Soon, after everyone had rested, Belt led the way, and the group continued forward.
In the desert, the sun had baked the sand to the point of steaming. Everyone was sweating profusely, each step draining their energy, and they all just wanted to get through this arduous journey as quickly as possible. Thus, aside from stopping a few times for water and dry rations, they hurried along.
As dusk approached, Kairuot gazed at the vast expanse of the desert. The contours of the sand dunes were clear and layered, with no hint of greenery in sight. The desert before him was a golden sea, like waves of golden wolves rising up, stretching all the way to the distant golden horizon, seemingly endless... It was his first time witnessing such a unique sight.
Unable to contain his awe, Kairuot exclaimed, "In this endless sea of yellow sand, where exactly is Loulan Ancient City hidden?"
"We're still quite a way off," Belt replied. "If we keep going for a few more miles without making any wrong turns... tonight, we should be able to stay in an abandoned house up ahead."
Fortunately, their luck held; they followed the correct route. By the time they reached the location Belt mentioned, night had already fallen. Everyone hurriedly started a fire to cook and set up camp.
The place Belt led them to was a house buried under sand and wind. From the outside, it looked like a small sand dune. They had to dig open the entrance with a shovel... If it weren't for Belt leading them, they would never have discovered such an abandoned house.
Belt explained that this entrance had been intentionally blocked off because they were afraid that wild beasts might enter through it and take over the house, leaving them without shelter in the future.
As Belt dug open the entrance and eagerly tried to go inside, he was pulled back by Kairuot: "Don't go in there; something's not right!"
Belt said in confusion, "Why didn't I feel anything?"
Kairuot told him to hide to the side and not make a sound. He then took a suffocation bomb from his waist and threw it into the cave. Within a minute, more than a dozen Horned Vipers sprang out of the cave. Watching countless pairs of glowing green eyes writhing in the darkness, Belt stuck out his tongue and thought, "That was close; I almost lost my life."
Kairuot performed a Lightness Skill leap, attacking the writhing eyes on the ground with a palm strike.
With a series of "bang" sounds, the more than a dozen Horned Cobras that had jumped out were shattered into pieces, leaving almost no complete snake forms. A pair of glowing green eyes fell right in front of Belt, blinking and staring at him. Using the moonlight, Belt realized it was just a snake head; he had no idea where the snake body had been sent by Kairuot. Trembling, Belt tried to hit it with an iron shovel, but the snake head suddenly opened its mouth wide and lunged at him as if sensing his movement, only to be knocked away by Kairuot's palm.
Kairuot shouted in mid-air, "Are you trying to get yourself killed? These dismembered snakes still have attacking power. You better not move; otherwise, you'll be in danger."
As Kairuot spoke, the seemingly dead Horned Cobras on the ground began to rise and bite towards him—unfortunately, Kairuot was flying too high for them to reach him, and they all fell back to the ground.
Hearing the sounds of battle, Li Girl and Bel Purewood rushed over to assist. Before long, both snake heads and bodies were smashed into tiny pieces. To be safe, everyone carefully cleaned up the battlefield while Kairuot threw another suffocation bomb into the house. Once he felt that there was indeed no danger inside, everyone crawled into the house.
Startled by the dozen venomous snakes, Belt had lost his appetite for dinner and mumbled, "I've been here twice before; there were no venomous snakes in this house. Where did they come from? If I had known it would be so terrifying, I wouldn't have come."
