The two spent half a day wandering in Luo Xie City, rested for a night, and the next morning, when they bid farewell to the innkeeper, they paid a little extra silver, asking the innkeeper to give it to Li An as a thank you for serving as their guide.
The two Great Immortals then found a secluded spot, took out their positioning device to determine the direction, and headed towards the Egyptian Pyramid.
Indeed, it was quite far from Luo Xie City to the Egyptian Pyramid. They flew for more than ten hours without stopping, finally arriving at their destination at dusk.
Kairuot and Xiaoli had already seen towering pyramidal structures from the air, standing majestically against the blue sky.
They chose the largest pyramid by the banks of the Nile as their landmark and landed in the desert area near it. By that time, the sun had already set, leaving a faint red glow at the horizon where water met sky. The pyramid appeared dark purple under the slanting rays of the sun, resembling mountain peaks amidst a sea of clouds. A caravan passed through Tower Spitze, creating a stunning sunset scene of the pyramids.
"What a beautiful sunset!" Xiaoli exclaimed.
"Let's hurry!" Kairuot urged. "It's getting dark; we need to enter the pyramid quickly."
They arrived at the base of the pyramid and circled it several times, searching for an entrance. As night fell completely, they had no choice but to sit down in front of the Sphinx connected to the pyramid.
Xiaoli ate some rations and took a sip of water, saying, "This pyramid seems to be built by Earthlings; there are no signs indicating it was constructed by our planet."
Kairuot shook his head and said, "Haven't you seen the Sphinx right in front of you?"
"Ah!" Xiaoli noticed the Sphinx before her. She understood why Kairuot had been reluctant to move; this Sphinx was indeed a landmark of Mars. However, this sculpture was too small; it was buried halfway in sand and dust, with only half its head exposed. Without careful observation, she wouldn't have realized that she was looking at a statue, which hadn't caught her attention.
She said, "I really didn't notice this is a Sphinx sculpture; it's just a bit small. It is a special symbol of our planet. The Martians also sculpted a giant Sphinx on Elysium Planitia. We can see it from space."
"This sculpture proves that the pyramids here were built either by the Martians or the Capricornians. However, this is an early pyramid, and its technology is not as advanced as that of later constructions. Legend has it that the pyramid Tower Spitze here is made of gold, just like the Golden Tower of the Mars Alliance Headquarters, which was later stolen by Earthlings and has become what it is now."
Xiao Li asked, "Are you so sure?"
Kairuot pointed at the pyramid in front of them and said, "Look at the entire structure; each stone block weighs no less than 10 tons. The stones are polished very precisely, and there are no adhesives like cement between them; the gaps are extremely tight. Such exquisite craftsmanship could not have been achieved by Earthlings at that time. This was done by the ancestors of the Capricornians. After thousands of years of changes, we don't know if there are still instruments inside the pyramid or whether later generations of aliens have utilized this pyramid; that's still unknown."
As they were talking, a shadow flashed before their eyes and then disappeared. Kairuot, with keen eyesight, quickly chased after it, with Xiao Li following behind. They chased all the way to the foundation of the pyramid but ultimately lost track of the shadow.
"He went in here," Xiao Li noticed an opening next to the foundation and said as she crawled inside. Without a second thought, Kairuot followed her in. The dark passage posed no challenge for them; their night vision came into play.
The two crawled through a long passage that was just wide enough for one person and entered the main hall inside the pyramid. The interior of the pyramid was empty; they were looking around for the shadow they had seen earlier but found nothing. They only heard a sound coming from the passage they had just entered—the sound of large stones sliding and rubbing against each other, blocking their way out.
Seeing this situation, Kairuot said to Xiao Li, "We've been tricked; we're trapped inside this abandoned pyramid."
"Impossible," Xiao Li said skeptically, "the person we saw didn't go out either. I think there must be other exits. If we find that person, we can get out."
Where could they find this person? Both were uncertain because there was nothing inside the entire tower to search for switches to open doors in the main hall. They knocked on the stone walls one by one throughout the night without any results. Xiao Li was already discouraged and muttered, "Who would be so wicked as to lead us here to trap us?"
She sat down on the ground to rest, seemingly losing confidence. However, Kairuot remained determined to find a switch for entering or exiting. Xiao Li said, "You should take a break... If it were so easy to find it, he wouldn't have led us here."
Indeed, as she had predicted, Kairuot spent an entire night searching without finding an exit. The wristband indicated that it was already bright outside, but there was not a single ray of light inside the tower. Kairuot turned on the blue light from his wristband and began to admire the exquisite and magnificent reliefs and murals inside.
Xiao Li had been meditating and resting for several hours, feeling particularly refreshed. She saw Kairuot intently observing a mural and walked over to him, asking, "What have you discovered?"
"These murals seem to be hinting at something," Kairuot said, pointing at a mural on the wall. "Look, these animals are running towards a grid pattern, and in another relief, there are submarines, airplanes, spaceships, and flying saucers. There are also similar grid-like patterns. Could it be a coincidence?"
"Oh, this mural is a training diagram; its power is considerable, and there's golden light radiating from around the head," Xiao Li remarked as she noticed another mural.
When Kairuot saw another mural, he thought to himself, "This one depicts a fox spirit seemingly organizing a mummy. Wait, this mummy has its eyes open; it's not dead. What is it hinting at?"
He asked Xiao Li beside him, "Did you hear any sounds of people nearby?"
Xiao Li replied, "Yes, I can hear someone's heartbeat."
"Exactly," Kairuot said. "Last night, I kept sensing the sound of this person's heartbeat slowly; they are nearby, but I just can't find the entrance inside."
Xiao Li asked, "Didn't you just feel that Capricornian had a hint? Which painting is it? Why don't we give it a try?"
Kairuot thought it made sense. They both went to the relief featuring submarines, airplanes, spaceships, and flying saucers. Xiao Li tried to touch the grid in the painting with her finger. She tapped once but nothing happened. Xiao Li said, "Your feeling is wrong; this grid doesn't have anything special about it and doesn't look like a button or switch. I pressed it but nothing happened." As she spoke, she kept her finger pressed on the relief's grid. Just as she finished speaking, the stone slab beneath them suddenly opened up, and they both fell into a passageway beneath the Pyramid Hall.
