Bai Yujing rummaged through Li Hao's box but couldn't find what she was looking for. "This doesn't make sense, how can it not be here?"
Bai Yujing glanced at Li Hao. "No, these items are fine. The problem lies with you."
Li Hao was terrified and broke into a cold sweat. "With me? You mean that thing is on me? No wonder! I knew something was off; she’s trying to take my life! First, it was in my dreams at night, and now she’s come during the day."
Ignoring Li Hao's panic, Bai Yujing circled around him and immediately noticed a pendant on him. She pointed at it and asked, "What is this?"
"This? No, no, no, this can't be the problem. This was left to me by my mother; I've worn it since I was a child," Li Hao waved his hands repeatedly.
However, Bai Yujing felt that the sound on the radar must be coming from Li Hao. Aside from that Langue 1815 tourbillon watch, this pendant was all he had left. Previously, due to the cold weather in Edinburgh, Bai Yujing hadn’t noticed that this guy was quite wealthy.
"Take it off and show it to me," Bai Yujing said, pointing at the pendant. After thinking for a moment, Li Hao took it off.
He cautiously said to Bai Yujing, "This is a treasure my mother left me; it can't possibly have any issues."
Once Bai Yujing held it in her hand, she immediately confirmed that this was indeed the problem. She examined the pendant closely; it was exquisitely made with golden embellishments and a deep blue gemstone. At first glance, it resembled an endless ocean. The gemstone was shaped like a droplet of water, and based on its craftsmanship and quality, this pendant was truly extremely valuable.
However, it was indeed related to the task at hand and likely connected to Li Hao's current situation. Bai Yujing looked at Li Hao and said, "This is the issue."
"Huh? How can that be! Wait?" Li Hao wanted to refute her claim. He had been half-convinced about Bai Yujing's words but felt compelled to come over and take a look. He never expected her to say there was something wrong with a treasure left by his mother. Just as he prepared to argue with Bai Yujing, he noticed that the voice that had been faintly echoing in his ears gradually faded away, like a stone sinking silently to the bottom of the sea.
Li Hao immediately turned to Bai Yujing. "The voice is gone; that woman's voice has disappeared."
Realizing this meant that the pendant his mother had left him might indeed be problematic shocked him. How could this be possible? Yet reality seemed to confirm it. "I’ve worn this pendant since I was little; I never even take it off when I sleep! How could this happen?"

There are no strange sounds disturbing you anymore. I will put this pendant away and study it before returning it to you," Bai Yujing said as she placed the pendant in a box and looked at Li Hao.
Li Hao hesitated for a moment, then nodded, "Okay, this is very important to me, so please don't lose it!"
"By the way, I haven't eaten yet. I'm starving right now. I rushed to catch a flight to get here without stopping along the way. Do you have anything to eat?" After resolving the issue, Li Hao felt a sense of relief, but he realized he hadn't eaten lunch or dinner and felt like he was about to starve.
Bai Yujing replied irritably, "There are some leftovers from dinner in the fridge. I'll heat them up for you!"
"What? Leftovers? I won't eat that."
"Fine, suit yourself."
With no other choice, Li Hao had to give in to the stubborn Bai Yujing. He put on a tough front but devoured the food ravenously, showing no restraint at all—he looked just like a starving ghost reincarnated.
"This house is nicely decorated, but the swimming pool is a bit small. If you were to throw a party and invite a singing group along with a few girls and guests, there wouldn't be enough space," Li Hao commented while eating, which made Bai Yujing's mouth twitch.
Is this sarcasm? When Bai Yujing first saw this villa, she was so excited she almost went crazy; it felt vast and boundless. Yet this rich second-generation kid told her that his villa wasn't big enough for a party. Bai Yujing sighed at this clueless person who didn't understand hardship. How did she not see his true nature back in Edinburgh? It really is true that you can know someone’s face but not their heart.
"Finish eating and rest early. You’ll be staying in the first room on the left upstairs; mine is the first room on the right. If you need anything, just knock," Bai Yujing said as it was already late at night. She hadn't expected Li Hao to rush over by plane in the middle of the night. Yawning, she returned to her bedroom.
Bai Yujing placed the pendant she received from Li Hao under her lamp and examined it closely but still found nothing unusual. How could she hear a woman's singing? She realized she couldn't hear it at all.
Moreover, Li Hao had only recently heard this sound; he had worn the pendant for many years without noticing anything strange about it. This indicated that there must have been some trigger that caused this effect and some mechanism within the pendant itself.
Could it be related to the mark on Li Hao's ankle? How did that mark come to be? Bai Yujing thought for a moment, slightly organizing his thoughts, and decided to consider this matter further after waking up tomorrow.
When going to sleep, Bai Yujing placed the pendant far away. This mysterious object, whose origins were unknown, seemed harmless for now; at most, it would cause sleeplessness and fright like it did with Li Hao. However, who knew if any other problems might arise? Bai Yujing felt it was better to keep it at a distance.
Having dreamt nothing throughout the night, Bai Yujing rubbed his face when he got up in the morning and picked up his phone, only to find new messages. Upon opening them, he discovered they were from the internal software of the Endangered Species Conservation Organization.
Bai Yujing opened it to find the information he had previously requested about mermaids. The Endangered Species Conservation Organization had indeed collected quite a bit of data regarding such exotic creatures and their rumors.
In addition to some hearsay and historical records, there were also many genuine materials. Bai Yujing immediately jumped out of bed. His computer in his room was not connected to a printer, so he rushed to the study, where he collected various materials.
Just as he stepped out, he saw Li Hao coming out of his room. Li Hao immediately asked, "Hey, what are we having for breakfast? And what about my face wash and brushing my teeth?"
"There's a takeout menu on the coffee table in the living room; order for yourself and get me one too. There are disposable toiletries in the bathroom; just find them," Bai Yujing said without any time to spare for Li Hao's chatter as he dashed into the study and skillfully turned on the computer.
Leaning over the computer, he exported all the data inside and started printing all the files. Not long after, there was a knock on the door of the study. Bai Yujing quickly said, "Come in!"
Li Hao walked in from outside: "I ordered you a burger with fries and a cola. Wow, what are all these things on your wall?"
Li Hao immediately noticed that Bai Yujing's study walls were covered with various materials and photos, including large amounts of English text. On the nearby whiteboard were pictures with arrows, clues, and speculations written in black pen that looked quite impressive.
Li Hao quickly spotted the mark on his ankle on the whiteboard: "Isn't this the mark on my ankle?"
He turned his head to look around and suddenly gasped: "You don't mean that all this is related to my mark, do you?"
Bai Yujing nodded, "That's right. This information may be related to the mark on you. It could involve a very ancient and long-standing race, and behind this mark, there might even be some ancient secrets and legends."
Li Hao was stunned, "You're not joking, are you?"
Bai Yujing picked up a large stack of printed materials and began flipping through them. Among them was some genuine information: in 1962, a Soviet Union cargo ship mysteriously sank off the coast of Cuba. Although it was a cargo ship, it was carrying nuclear missiles, prompting the military to go underwater to salvage it. During that time, they discovered a juvenile mermaid measuring 0.6 meters long, accompanied by pictures, but unfortunately, they were unable to capture it.
In the 1980s, the United States Navy reportedly captured an adult mermaid in the Pacific. It was described as having deep blue hair and black translucent scales, with a fish tail measuring two meters and an overall length close to two and a half meters. Unfortunately, there were no pictures.
In 1990, a group of construction workers discovered a massive golden coffin near an ancient tomb on the shores of the Black Sea outside Sochi City. Inside, they found a peculiar creature adorned with treasures and decorations; it had a human body and a fish tail, wearing a crown. The materials included pictures that were not very clear, but one could see the body of a human with a fish tail lying quietly in a golden coffin, wearing a mask and topped with a golden crown embedded with a large blue gemstone.
Further records indicated that mermaids had also been discovered along the coastal areas of China and Japan. However, due to the establishment of the Endangered Species Conservation Organization's branch in China just two years ago, related information has not been very complete.
Although there are various legends about mermaids that are difficult to explain, there are only a few verifiable accounts in modern human history. Thus, the materials also express controversy regarding whether such creatures truly exist.
Bai Yujing carefully pinned these materials onto a whiteboard and said to Li Hao, "I'm not trying to deceive you. Even though you can no longer hear strange sounds, that mark is still on you. Who knows what it is? It might flare up at any moment; these mysterious unknowns can be very dangerous."
"What?" Upon hearing that this matter wasn't over yet, Li Hao's previously relaxed mood instantly tightened up. Bai Yujing noticed that this guy was quite afraid of death, so he deliberately said this to make him take the matter seriously and cooperate with his next plan.
