Li Hao nodded, "That's right, everything he told me, I've shared with you."
Bai Yujing frowned, "Then how could what Professor Qiu said be so different? Even if his memory is fuzzy, he should just not remember. This is too far off."

Bai Yujing had been somewhat silent today, which made Li Hao feel strange. He looked at her and asked, "Do you have something you want to say to me? Just say it; there's no need to be so polite."

Bai Yujing continued, "I had a biological expert help me analyze it. The test report arrived in my email this morning; it's in my bag behind me. I printed it out; you can take a look."
Li Hao's expression turned serious: "Is there really something wrong with my mark or identity?"
He rummaged through Bai Yujing's bag and quickly found the document she mentioned. After flipping through it several times, he looked at Bai Yujing, scratching his head: "You should just tell me what's going on; I don't understand."
Bai Yujing thought for a moment and picked up the report. "Let me put it simply. Everyone has twenty-three pairs of chromosomes, which are the most important genetic material and carriers of genes in humans. However, you have thirty-seven pairs of chromosomes. Additionally, human chromosomes come in pairs, divided into X and Y. This report has found a third type in your body, which means that each of your chromosome pairs has three, one of which is an unknown alien chromosome that humanity has never discovered."
Li Hao was stunned after hearing this, suddenly feeling a chill run down his spine as he connected many dots. "What are you trying to say?"
Bai Yujing said directly, "You are not human, or rather, you are not an ordinary human."
Li Hao immediately fell silent, finding it hard to accept. "How is that possible? What kind of expert did you consult? It can't be some village quack doctor. I am human; how could I not be? This is just nonsense."
Bai Yujing pulled the car over to the side. "I know the results are hard to accept. The person I consulted is absolutely reliable—a Doctor of Biology specializing in genetic engineering and Life Sciences. This report was also tested using the top facilities at the research institute. I have confirmed this with her multiple times. Rest assured, I have made it clear to her that your information will absolutely not be leaked. Furthermore, I must tell you some bad news."
"What news?" Li Hao felt a bit flustered and didn't know whether to believe this fact.
Bai Yujing turned to the last page of the report. "Your genes are currently showing signs of collapse. Although it is very slow, there is indeed a gradual collapse occurring. Right now, it's still in the early stages, but these symptoms have appeared."
Bai Yujing hesitated for a moment before continuing, and Li Hao lost his temper. "Can you just finish what you're saying? What will the consequences be?"
"Although there are unknown factors in your body preventing this collapse and attempting to repair it, the report states that this can only delay the timing of gene collapse. You may not have much time left; it's still in the early stages now, but in six months, your body will begin to show signs of gradual collapse—at most, it won't last more than a year." Bai Yujing thought for a moment and decided to tell Li Hao this fact.
Li Hao's hand trembled as he held the report. "You're lying to me, right?"
Bai Yujing remained silent. "The report says so. If you don't believe it, you can go to a large hospital for an examination; you should find out then. Haven't you ever been sick since childhood? How come doctors never discovered this condition?"
Li Hao let out a bitter laugh. "I've never been sick my entire life. Hearing you say this does seem strange; I've never even had a cold or fever. During winter, I don't even cough or have a runny nose."
Bai Yujing handed him the report. "To be honest, I'm not an expert in this area either. You can take the report and consult a professional to analyze it and see if there’s any issue."
The lab report was a thick stack filled with various technical terms and experimental data displayed on it. If it weren't for Li Xinyan explaining things clearly over the phone, Bai Yujing probably wouldn't have understood what was written inside at all.
Li Hao immediately took pictures of the reports one by one with his phone, then connected it to the computer. After making a few calls outside the car, he finally returned inside. Bai Yujing also knew that Li Hao must be looking for professionals to verify the authenticity of the report. After all, with something like this happening, even Bai Yujing would find it hard to believe.
Once in the car, the two fell into silence again. Then Li Hao said to Bai Yujing, "We should go check out Shuiyuan Village. No matter what, we're already here. Bai Yujing replied, "I just enjoy stories and adventures like this. As long as you’re willing to trust me, I will get to the bottom of this."
Li Hao nodded. "You mentioned before that this mark is related to something; I've seen it on your whiteboard at home."
"Merfolk!" Bai Yujing immediately answered.
Li Hao nodded again. "Right, that's it. You said my blood is different from an ordinary person's; could it be related to this?"
Li Hao didn't realize that although he still expressed doubt, he was gradually starting to believe what Bai Yujing had said. Bai Yujing went on to share some information and clues she had gathered with Li Hao in detail as they drove and discussed.
The road they traveled became increasingly remote. At first, they could still see some farmland and buildings, but as they went further, the roads became bumpy and uneven. Bai Yujing noticed that the further they went, the rougher the road became; what had once been a broken concrete path had turned into a mountain road filled with loose stones and weeds, as if no one had passed through in a long time.
The journey was quite arduous, requiring them to get out of the car periodically to clear obstacles. Initially, they had planned to reach their destination in two or three hours, but unexpectedly it was already past four when they arrived at their intended location. They drove until they reached a forest and had to stop because there was no road ahead.
"This place is so remote!" Bai Yujing exclaimed as she got out of the car, looking at the forest and overgrown weeds. She never expected Shuiyuan Village would be in such a location.
Li Hao nodded. "Let's go take a look and confirm our location first; we can return here before dark."
