The roar of the motorcycle echoed continuously, and Bai Yujing felt the shadows of the trees beside her retreating rapidly behind them. Her eyes struggled to keep up. "Wow, Lin Ruoqiao, you're going way too fast!"
The wind howled past them, but Lin Ruoqiao didn't hear Bai Yujing's voice at all. In her eyes, there was only one thing: the road ahead. Before long, she spotted a gray van in front of them and managed to intercept it just before entering the county town.
Ma Dong flicked ash out of the window but immediately saw Bai Yujing and Lin Ruoqiao's figures in the rearview mirror. The motorcycle was approaching rapidly with a roar, heading straight for them. Ma Dong's expression changed instantly. "Not good, they're catching up!"
Tong Wei glanced at the rearview mirror and noticed the shadow behind them as well. He sneered, "Here we go again. Boss, don't worry; I'll easily shake them off."
Last time, Bai Yujing had chased Tong Wei but ended up being effortlessly shaken off. This time, Tong Wei prepared to use the same trick again. He quickly merged onto the main road where traffic began to thicken, and they were not far from entering the county town.
Tong Wei swiftly tossed his cigarette butt out of the window, slammed on the gas pedal, and accelerated rapidly. He maneuvered the steering wheel to overtake a large bus ahead, weaving through traffic and directly entering the ring road highway.
The bus driver was startled and slammed on the brakes, causing everyone in the vehicle to lurch forward. The driver leaned out of his window and shouted angrily, "Are you trying to get yourself killed?"
At that moment, Tong Wei had already sped away. As the bus prepared to move again, a motorcycle zoomed past in a blur, swerving sharply in front of him and speeding through an intersection.
"Stop! Stop! We're going to crash!" Bai Yujing felt the wind whipping against her clothes as if her loose t-shirt was inflating. The vehicles at the intersection were startled by the speeding motorcycle, quickly slamming on their brakes or swerving away. Lin Ruoqiao skillfully maneuvered through the sea of cars, leaving a trail of curses behind her.
Bai Yujing even felt her helmet-clad face brush against a black Honda's side mirror, nearly colliding head-on. But Lin Ruoqiao paid no mind; she focused solely on that gray van ahead and surged forward.
Tong Wei glanced back at the motorcycle, which had already reached speeds of a hundred miles per hour and was still gaining on him. The motorcycle remained tightly on his tail and continued to close in. Tong Wei's expression turned serious: "Looks like we've got some real competition this time!"
Ma Dong held onto his box tightly while staring at the rearview mirror and said to Tong Wei, "Hurry up and shake them off! Didn't you say you were a god of driving in your area?"
Tong Wei immediately retorted, "Boss, this is just a business van. Fortunately, the break-in period is over, and it has a displacement of 2.6. If you were to try with an ordinary van, it would have already started to float by now. Accelerating further could easily lead to danger."
"Can you handle it? We absolutely cannot let them catch up," Ma Dong urged, somewhat dissatisfied.
Tong Wei pondered for a moment and said, "Alright, I will definitely shake them off. I've never raced in a van before, but I'll give it a try."
The two vehicles sped along the highway, one behind the other. Lin Ruoqiao and Tong Wei were both skilled in this area, constantly maneuvering around nearby cars, confidently overtaking or weaving through gaps that barely accommodated a single vehicle, chasing speed on this highway.
They had already attracted considerable attention; along the way, the two cars recklessly ran through red lights and charged across the ring road highway. Gradually, motorcycles began to catch up with Ma Dong and his companion. Ma Dong could even see Lin Ruoqiao and Bai Yujing behind him through the window.
"Damn, they’ve caught up!"
As they approached the highway exit, the road became wider and smoother. Tong Wei felt his speed had exceeded 180 km/h; the entire vehicle felt somewhat light. At this speed, even hitting a small stone could result in catastrophic consequences.
In the blink of an eye, Lin Ruoqiao had already overtaken Tong Wei, positioning her vehicle sideways in front of them to block their path.
Determined, Tong Wei made a sharp turn and rapidly returned to the lane, starting to drive against traffic. A wave of oncoming drivers was caught off guard by this vehicle approaching head-on, causing chaos on the road. By the time Tong Wei maneuvered through, many cars had already come to a halt across the road, blocking it entirely.
Ma Dong was startled by Tong Wei's actions and turned back to see the situation behind him. He couldn't help but exclaim, "Tong Wei, you’re impressive! You've got some skills!"
The traffic chaos caused by their wrong-way driving immediately prevented Lin Ruoqiao from passing through. Bai Yujing was also shaken by Lin Ruoqiao's earlier speed; at that moment, she thought Lin Ruoqiao might give up. However, unexpectedly, Lin Ruoqiao accelerated her motorcycle and swiftly leaned into a sharp turn beside a diagonally parked car, nearly scraping the ground as she sped past.
By the time Lin Ruoqiao lifted her motorcycle back up, Bai Yujing was drenched in cold sweat. As they continued forward in pursuit, Bai Yujing saw the silver-gray van ahead suddenly lift off the ground, flipping several times in mid-air before soaring over several passing vehicles and crashing into the guardrail, tumbling down the hillside.
Lin Ruoqiao immediately parked the car at an angle, and Bai Yujing quickly took off his helmet and jumped down the slope. At this moment, the car had already rolled over several times and landed at the bottom of the slope. However, unlike in the movies, the car was quite sturdy and there was no smoke or fire.
Bai Yujing rushed down and immediately entered the car, ignoring the two individuals. It was clear that these two were not on his side. Bai Yujing opened the back door and saw a large number of boxes scattered inside, with piles of gold bars spilled everywhere. What caught Bai Yujing's attention was Li Hao's black backpack. He quickly opened it and found a box inside, from which he tipped out a jade bottle.
Upon seeing it, Bai Yujing realized it was indeed the jade bottle he had obtained earlier. Just as he felt pleased, he heard the wailing of police sirens coming from behind. A large crowd had gathered on the slope, pointing and discussing what was happening below.
Feeling uneasy, Bai Yujing quickly reacted and climbed to the front. At this moment, the two individuals were unconscious, their heads and bodies covered in blood. Fortunately, the car's anti-collision device had functioned properly, and both were wearing seatbelts, allowing them to still breathe.
Bai Yujing unbuckled one of their seatbelts and slowly dragged him out of the seat before gently placing him on the ground. In a casual motion, he discreetly placed the jade bottle under a large rock hidden in some weeds nearby.
By now, several people had come down. Bai Yujing noticed a few individuals who looked like police officers rushing toward him, showing their badges: "Hello, I suspect you are involved in reckless driving and disturbing public order, as well as violating the Road Traffic Law and Public Security Administration Punishment Law of the People's Republic of China. Please come with us for a while."
Bai Yujing nodded. The police officer promptly handcuffed him while others pulled out the second individual from the car to perform first aid measures. An ambulance arrived shortly after.
Bai Yujing was taken into a police car. Upon entering, he saw Lin Ruoqiao sitting next to him. He leaned in and whispered, "Just say I was driving when they ask; don't say too much."
This incident was caused by Bai Yujing, who wanted to chase after these two to retrieve their belongings, including treasure hunting and finding things. It was also an idea from both Bai Yujing and Li Hao. Lin Ruoqiao merely liked to join in on the fun; Bai Yujing felt it was unfair to let a girl like her take the blame for his actions.
Despite being handcuffed in the car by the police, Lin Ruoqiao showed no fear: "What's there to panic about? It's nothing serious; at most we'll be detained for a few days and pay some fines before getting out. I've been through worse!"
