Bai Yujing walked out of Professor Qiu's house, finally gaining a clear understanding of the events that took place in Shuiyuan Village years ago. Indeed, as Bai Yujing had suspected, Professor Qiu had deceived him; he did not want Bai Yujing to discover the truth from that time, a past that Professor Qiu was unwilling to recall.
The design of the Well Water Palace was intended to create a mechanism powered by water, connecting to the sea. Since Sharkmen would not easily surface or come ashore, encountering them above the coast or on the water's surface was a rare occurrence.
Moreover, even if they were encountered, in the vast ocean, no matter how many people there were, they could not match the strength of the mermaids. Their immense power and near-immortal vitality made it impossible to confront them directly. This is why mechanisms like the Well Water Palace were designed—to connect to the sea and lure out the Sharkmen through special means. Being in the water would cause the Sharkmen to lower their guard, making them easy targets.
At that moment, as long as the mechanism was activated to cut off the water inlet from the sea and then drain all the water from within the Well Water Palace, capturing them would be effortless. A Sharkman out of water would be like a bird without wings, at the mercy of others.
This was the reason for establishing Shuiyuan Village. The key figures were the village's priestesses; Shuiyuan Village consisted solely of women—daughters, granddaughters, and even great-granddaughters of the priestess. The entire village was made up of descendants of the priestess, and every year they held a special ceremony to summon the Sharkmen.
That particular year during the ceremony, a group intruded into this ancient and mysterious village. Among them was Professor Qiu, who fell in love with a woman from the village. She revealed to him the truth about this village. After a series of dramatic events fueled by anger, Professor Qiu disrupted the ceremony. Although the Well Water Palace managed to trap a Sharkman named Man, Professor Qiu sabotaged the final step of releasing water.
In her fury, Man used her powerful spiritual control to dominate the entire village and killed everyone there, leaving only Professor Qiu to escape with his teacher and his current wife from Shuiyuan Village. However, apart from Professor Qiu, both others suffered brain damage due to Man's powers and lost most of their memories.
This is Professor Qiu's story; however, its conclusion differed somewhat from what he had imagined. There was one person left alive in Shuiyuan Village—the priestess. Not only did she survive, but she also killed Man, achieving her goal after hundreds of years of lurking in Shuiyuan Village.
However, Bai Yujing did not share this information with Professor Qiu. The story indicated that by then, Professor Qiu's emotions were clearly getting out of control; it seemed that those past events were a deep nightmare for him. Bai Yujing did not wish to provoke him further; thus, their tale regarding Professor Qiu and Shuiyuan Village came to an end.
After leaving Professor Qiu's house, Bai Yujing sat in his car and organized his thoughts. Man had told Bai Yujing that in order to find Atlantis, one must possess the Center; only with the Center could one open Atlantis's door.
However, what exactly was this Center? The pendant that Li Hao carried was part of Man's possession and was now in Bai Yujing's hands because Li Hao dared not wear it yet could not bear to discard it. Bai Yujing mentioned wanting to study it for a while; thus, he temporarily kept it.
Man informed Bai Yujing that this was part of the Center but did not know what other parts existed.
"Then where is Atlantis? Once I find the Center, there should be a place to open this door," Bai Yujing asked at that moment.
"Once you find the Center, you will know where it is!" Man replied.
"Where is the other part of the Center?"
"It is in the hands of another group of Atlantis survivors. Only when the two are combined can we open the gates of Atlantis and return home!"
Bai Yujing felt as if he had jumped from one Deep Pit into another. To be honest, he wasn't even sure about finding Atlantis; he had no confidence in locating this Center either. Others from Shuiyuan Village had guarded the seaside for over two hundred years, waiting for him. How long would he have to wait?
However, the Merfolk seemed to have a strong belief in fate. Their powerful spiritual sense and perception appeared to allow them to foresee some invisible and future events, which was why they had such unwavering confidence in Bai Yujing.
"Forget it, challenges are good; otherwise, I would have nothing to do," Li Hao's billion had already been transferred to Bai Yujing's account. Suddenly, Bai Yujing realized that with this billion, he didn't know what to do.
The sudden wealth made it seem like his entire life had lost its purpose. It felt like all he needed to do was sit at home and shop, then eat, sleep, and play Dudu. Well, Bai Yujing couldn't bring himself to play; that seemed too decadent. So after lounging around at home for a week, he specifically sought out Professor Qiu to add some challenge and difficulty to his life.
The plan to find Atlantis seemed unreliable at first glance, but thinking about it made him feel a bit excited. Achieving an impossible goal was just the moment of realizing self-worth and elevating one's life, right? What’s the difference between not showing off and being a Salty Fish?
Bai Yujing closed his notebook after making grand statements. He stretched his body; everything felt soft and achy, lacking energy. However, compared to last week, he felt much better. Last week, during the worst moments, Bai Yujing could barely crawl out of bed.
Driving back home, as soon as he arrived at the security desk, he noticed a package addressed to him. Upon picking it up, he realized it was an overseas delivery. Could it be something Emma sent? Bai Yujing was thrilled and rushed home without even closing the car door, heading straight into the living room to open the package. Just then, his phone rang.
"Darling, how's it going? Did you receive the package?" Emma's voice was full of energy on the other end.
Bai Yujing immediately replied, "Oh Emma, your call came at just the right time! I just got the package and I'm happily opening it now. What did you send me?"
Emma laughed and said, "Ian, don't you remember? I ordered a custom suit for you!"
"My goodness, I almost forgot! It arrived so quickly; I've been looking forward to this!" Bai Yujing suddenly recalled and quickly opened the package to find a complete suit inside.
Bai Yujing immediately said into the phone, "Hold on a second; I'll try it on right away!"
After opening it, Bai Yujing found a three-piece gray checkered suit inside. Upon inspecting the lining, he noticed the exquisite craftsmanship, with non-fused interlinings, and different materials used for the sleeve linings, front linings, collar linings, and shoulder linings. The wool felt very good to the touch, and when he picked it up, he realized it had a great drape.
However, when he tried it on, Bai Yujing discovered that it was not quite fitting; it felt much smaller on him. He then remembered that he had made some adjustments to his measurements. This suit was tailored according to his previous size, which explained why it didn't fit well now.
Meanwhile, Emma was eagerly waiting. Bai Yujing immediately put on a very happy expression and picked up the phone to express his joy to Emma. "By the way, Emma, I want to introduce you to a friend of mine! Can you do a video call now?"
Emma quickly replied, "Of course! Since you're introducing someone so grandly, they must not be an ordinary friend. Let me guess, they are definitely not human, right?"
Bai Yujing was astonished: "Are you called Emma Holmes?"
Bai Yujing opened his computer and sat on the sofa wearing the ill-fitting suit. However, sitting like this made it hard to tell anything. He held Dudu in his arms and started a video call with Emma. "Emma, take a look! This is my new friend and our new family member!"
Emma seemed to be on a playground, sitting on a hillside with a small forest behind her. "Oh my gosh! What kind of animal is that? It's so cute!"
"It's called Dudu. Dudu, say hello to Emma!"
Dudu opened its mouth and let out a loud sound, looking quite happy. However, it wasn't interested in Emma but rather fascinated by the computer in Bai Yujing's hands. For the past couple of days, Dudu's favorite activities had been sitting on the sofa watching TV and drinking beer—three cans every day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
"Hi!"
After chatting with Emma for a while, she mentioned that she had class soon and had to end the call. Emma expressed her excitement about coming to China for the New Year and said she really liked their new family member Dudu.
