Senso-ji feels quite similar to temples in China, but it also carries some unique Neon characteristics. The main theme is red, with a large red lantern hanging at the entrance, inscribed with the words "Thunder Gate." On the reverse side is the Wind and Thunder God Gate, and admission is free.
Although the recent gunfight has sparked much discussion, the first to arrive were several individuals dressed in black suits to conduct an investigation. Only later did a few police officers show up, but by that time, Bai Yujing and Li Hao had already blended into the crowd.
Senso-ji is very crowded, with a large complex of buildings. There are also many rickshaw pullers at the entrance, catering to tourists who want to experience the old-time local culture. Numerous girls in kimonos and foreign tourists are seen coming and going. Not all those wearing kimonos are Neon people; Bai Yujing noticed several blonde women and Chinese girls speaking Mandarin while live-streaming and taking photos. After entering through Thunder Gate, there are many shops lining the streets on both sides, where numerous tourists linger.
Li Hao asked Bai Yujing, "What were you chasing that person for?"
"That person might be related to the museum theft case. I feel this is not simple. We were just about to go to Tokyo National Museum when it was robbed, which is also our target at Eastern Museum. I have a hunch that what was stolen must be our target! That person was watching me from behind; he definitely knows both you and me. Did you see his arms? They were long down to his knees, one hand calloused, skilled in climbing and hand techniques. I've heard about such people back home; they are absolute thieves!" Bai Yujing said in one breath. Li Hao was surprised that Bai Yujing could gather so much information in such a short time.
Li Hao immediately replied, "If things were stolen, then we came here for nothing?"
Bai Yujing sighed, "When we get back, have someone investigate what exactly was stolen and who died. By the way, I forgot to tell you that someone back home informed me that one of the two people who opposed us in Shuiyuan Village, named Tong Wei, has also come to Neon with us. That person just now spoke fluent Chinese; although his Baji Quan skills weren't perfect, they were definitely authentic. Think about it—how could there be a Chinese person abroad who knows us? I believe it must be related to Tong Wei. It's a pity he got away; otherwise, we could have uncovered something!"
Li Hao was dumbfounded: "I feel like coming out with you this time is fraught with danger! Am I walking into a den of thieves? But he might not have escaped; look at what this is!"
Li Hao proudly held up his phone, showing photos of the man firing a gun along with the license plate number of the car behind him.
Bai Yujing exclaimed excitedly, "Good job, Li Hao! You've made a significant contribution this time!"
After running around for a while, both felt somewhat tired and decided to find a place nearby to sit down. Bai Yujing looked around and suggested, "How about we find somewhere to eat?"
"Sure! I remember there's a food street ahead; let's go check it out!" Li Hao had been here before; although several years had passed, he still had some memories of it.
They squeezed through the crowd from Thunder Gate to Senso-ji's entrance. It felt like everywhere they looked there were people—tour groups everywhere—especially since it was during National Day holiday when many Chinese prefer visiting Neon. Tokyo naturally sees the largest flow of people, so one could hear various dialects all around, which felt quite familiar.
On the side road of the main street, they found the food street that Li Hao mentioned. Indeed, the entire street was filled with the aroma of delicious food. The quaint little shops, wooden signs, and banners all looked very charming. Most of these shops had been around for a hundred years and were primarily family-run businesses.
The Onion Beef served Potato Cake, Deep-Fried Steamed Buns, and Pineapple Bun. Especially at the entrance of the Pineapple Bun shop, there was a long line of girls in kimonos wearing Geta and White Socks. Li Hao pointed and said, "I heard that wearing a kimono means you don't wear underwear!"
Bai Yujing shot Li Hao a disdainful glance, but couldn't help but let her imagination run wild. After wandering around for a while, Bai Yujing and Li Hao finally chose an Eel Restaurant to sit down in and ordered two servings of Eel Rice.
The shop had a fabric curtain hanging at the entrance, with a wooden sign written in calligraphy indicating that it was open for business. Behind the wooden counter, the owner dressed in traditional attire was busy working. The entire shop was kept very clean and had a strong sense of antiquity.
Bai Yujing opened her backpack and looked at the hole in it as well as her completely shattered notebook. Taking it out, she found it had fallen apart; shaking it caused it to disintegrate even more. Bai Yujing's face turned pale as she said, "No wonder I feel like I've been hit; it's all in this state!"
Li Hao chuckled, "As long as the hard drive isn't damaged, I can help you recover any important data later!"
"No need," Bai Yujing replied. "I use cloud storage for synchronization. I've learned my lesson about data backups; I have experience! By the way, can we make use of the photos you just took?" she asked.
Li Hao nodded, "Don't worry. We can find the owner's information through the license plate number and car model. Of course, that's assuming they aren't using fake plates. Also, if I hack into their traffic system, I can find recent violation records for that vehicle. There should be other useful information too; I'll think about it when I get back!"
At that moment, the Eel Rice was served. In a black wooden bowl lay neatly arranged pieces of eel meat, slightly charred on the outside. From the cracks in the surface, tender white fish meat could be seen inside, emitting a faint aroma.
"Wow! This looks pretty good!" Li Hao exclaimed as he took out his chopsticks. He had just run the hardest to keep up with Bai Yujing and that Man in Black Coat; he had really pushed himself to catch up and was now out of breath.
Bai Yujing nodded and said, "I actually have a good idea!"
"What idea?" Li Hao asked, knowing that Bai Yujing always noticed things he overlooked.
Bai Yujing said seriously, "Call the police!"
Li Hao almost spat out the food in his mouth. He inhaled sharply and nearly choked himself, taking several sips of water before saying, "What kind of good plan is this? It's just the most ordinary method, isn't it?"
Bai Yujing immediately replied, "Don't underestimate it; it's effective. Think about it, these guys are likely coming after us. If we call the police and send them the photos, they will be implicated in the theft from the Tokyo National Museum and murder, not to mention firing shots on a public street. Any one of those charges is serious enough. They will quickly receive a wanted notice and be apprehended by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. At that point, they'll definitely be flustered, and we can follow behind to find their weaknesses, figure out their intentions, and see if they are connected to Tong Wei and why they are following us to Neon."
Bai Yujing shrugged his shoulders. "But we still need to wait for one thing first."
Li Hao immediately asked, "What thing?"
"We need to confirm whether what was stolen is indeed our target. If it is, we can be sure they are coming after us and are likely connected to Tong Wei. If not, then it might just be a misunderstanding, and we can wash our hands of it and go about our business without offending anyone!" Bai Yujing pulled out chopsticks from the holder and started eating.
Li Hao nodded. "Alright, I'll have someone ask what exactly was stolen from the museum."
"By the way, can we get high-definition images of the exhibits in the museum? If we can get those, it would save us a lot of trouble," Bai Yujing suddenly remembered something.
Li Hao dismissed Bai Yujing's idea. "The images you obtained before were already taken by the museum itself through some channel. If you want better ones, you'll have to take close-up photos yourself or use scanning equipment."
Bai Yujing thought for a moment; the images were obtained through the Endangered Species Conservation Organization, which had extensive channels. It seemed there was no other option but to see the actual items and figure something out.
After lighting an incense stick and waving it around himself to ward off bad luck, he carefully inserted it into the holder when a cautious voice came from behind him: "Excuse me, are you Bai Yujing?"
Bai Yujing turned around to find two girls dressed in red kimonos. "Who are you?"
"Wow, it's really him!" The two girls squealed as they looked at Bai Yujing, their eyes sparkling with excitement. Bai Yujing felt a bit awkward and didn't know how to respond.
"We're your fans! We even bought your book. Can you sign it for us?" After saying this, the two girls took out a copy of Bai Yujing's book from their bags.
Another girl said, "We decided to come out and have fun after reading your story. Since it's the National Day holiday, we chose Tokyo, and we didn't expect you to be here too!"
Bai Yujing took the book and asked the two girls' names, "What are your names?"
"I'm Tang Wei!"
"I'm Liu Fanxing!"
Bai Yujing immediately wrote in the book, "Wishing Liu Fanxing eternal happiness and joy—Bai Yujing!"
In another book, she wrote something similar. It was the first time Bai Yujing encountered her fans, especially abroad, and she felt quite happy. Li Hao came up from behind and said, "Oh wow, I just went out to buy a drink, and you've already charmed two girls!"
Bai Yujing quickly pushed Li Hao's face away, saying, "Don't listen to him. When did you guys arrive? Do you have plans for where to go next?"
"We arrived the day before yesterday. Tomorrow we're planning to check out Akihabara, and we'll be heading back home the day after!" Liu Fanxing was a round-faced girl, and her smile indeed gave off a feeling of chasing after stars.
Tang Wei then said, "We're planning to draw lots; do you want to join us?"
"Of course, no problem!" Before Bai Yujing could respond, Li Hao agreed. The four of them chatted and laughed together, stopping in between for a few photos. There was a place in the temple for drawing lots that required coins; it was all based on honesty, with each person putting in one hundred yen.
After Bai Yujing put in one hundred yen, she drew a major misfortune!
Could it be that her luck had really turned bad recently? It seemed she needed to be more careful!
