Bai Yujing felt a sense of being cornered as he looked at the gun in Heizi's hand; this was the real deal, while he was just flesh and blood.
"What's wrong? No way out now, huh?" Heizi said smugly. Taking advantage of Heizi's moment of distraction, Bai Yujing threw a pillow from the bed and lunged forward to grab the gun. However, Heizi showed no signs of being disturbed; when Bai Yujing raised his head, he found the gun pressed against his forehead.
"I'm done for!" Just as Bai Yujing thought this, the door outside burst open with a loud bang. "Listen up, everyone inside..."
Heizi was startled and lost focus for a moment, giving Bai Yujing the chance to charge at him. The gun immediately fell to the ground, and as Bai Yujing reached for it, Heizi kicked it away. With fingers like steel pincers, Heizi lunged at Bai Yujing's eyes, but Bai Yujing quickly retaliated with a kick that pushed Heizi back.
After the last real fight, Bai Yujing felt his courage had grown significantly. He could see many of Heizi's moves clearly as they exchanged blows. Although they both attacked continuously, they managed to evade each other's strikes, with only a few landing.
At that moment, people began pouring in from outside. Realizing he couldn't afford to linger any longer, Heizi flipped over and dashed down the stairs. His long arms moved like those of a monkey as he quickly climbed up and vanished at the stairway.
"Stop! Don't move!"
As Heizi continued running upstairs, several gunshots rang out. However, Heizi was incredibly fast; in the blink of an eye, he reached the upper floor and jumped through a window into another building, disappearing without a trace.
Meanwhile, Bai Yujing was subdued by individuals in black combat gear who rushed in. Soon after, Arakawa Shigeto and Li Hao entered together. "Report, sir. We found five individuals in total: three were residents here, one escaped, and one was subdued!"
Upon seeing Bai Yujing, Arakawa Shigeto waved his hand. "Alright, let him go."
Seeing Li Hao, Bai Yujing understood what had happened; he had sneaked over to check things out alone, but it seemed this guy wasn't too reassured and called the police. That's why Arakawa Shigeto had come over. Fortunately, or else things would have gone badly for him.
"How are you? Are you alright?" Li Hao asked as he approached.
Bai Yujing waved his hand dismissively. "Just barely made it; it was close. I really can't compete with these gunmen."
The family that had been rescued by Bai Yujing was now being escorted out safely. As they left, the male head of the family stood in front of Bai Yujing. "Thank you for saving us; may I ask your name?"
"Bai Yujing!"
"Chinese?"
Bai Yujing nodded as the father picked up his child. "Thank you, sir, he saved us."
"Thank you, uncle!" the little boy said seriously.
"You're welcome, I just happened to be there!" Bai Yujing felt that he hadn't done much; it was merely a coincidence.
At that moment, Arakawa Shigeto came down from above. "Don't mention it; you really did save them. These people were ready to evacuate, and before they left, they definitely wouldn't have left any survivors. That person up there was preparing to burn things, and they were likely going to eliminate them afterward!"
Upon hearing this, the family's faces turned pale, especially the young woman who had already been frightened. Now, after Arakawa Shigeto's words, she realized how dangerous the situation had been and felt her legs weaken.
Bai Yujing also felt a sense of relief. Fortunately, he had come to check things out. How should he put it? Being able to save three lives made him feel bright and content inside.
The three of them had been tied up here for several days and were showing various abnormal symptoms, so they needed to be taken to the hospital. After expressing their gratitude to Bai Yujing earnestly, they got into the ambulance and left.
Bai Yujing followed Arakawa Shigeto upstairs. There, he saw a large iron basin in the center filled with a lot of papers and photographs. Bai Yujing glanced at it and noticed many photos related to the Tokyo National Museum, structural blueprints, and some pictures of Neon People, including ones of himself and Li Hao.
Arakawa Shigeto looked at it and said, "It really is these people; this information is very important. Meizi, clean this up and take it back."
However, Bai Yujing spotted two pages among the papers and immediately pulled them out. "This is Hydrology and Water Script?"
Bai Yujing recognized it right away; this ancient pictographic script was quite distinctive. Arakawa Shigeto immediately looked over. "What kind of script is this? Oracle Bone Script?"
Bai Yujing held up the paper and asked, "Officer Arakawa, may I take a picture of these two documents?"
"No way; this is crucial evidence that absolutely cannot be leaked!" Arakawa Shigeto said sternly. Bai Yujing felt a bit disappointed but nodded nonetheless.
Unexpectedly, Arakawa Shigeto changed his tone. "However, if you can tell us what this is and what these people's intentions are, I might make an exception!"
A smile appeared on Bai Yujing's face, but he hesitated for a moment before finally saying, "This is called Hydrology and Water Script; it's a form of ancient script from a very old civilization. Very few people currently understand it. This script should be related to the artifacts stolen from the Tokyo National Museum; it must have been obtained from above. That's all I know!"
Arakawa Shigeto immediately asked, "So, the reason they stole from the Tokyo National Museum is this thing we have in our hands?"
"Based on my guess, it should be so, but I can't guarantee it!" Bai Yujing nodded.
Officer Meiko, standing behind Arakawa Shigeto, stepped forward and said, "How come you know so much? Isn't that strange?"
Bai Yujing replied, "But we haven't broken any laws or harmed anyone, have we?"
"But you brought a whole group of dangerous individuals with you. We..."
"Meizi!" Officer Meiko wanted to continue questioning, but Arakawa Shigeto interrupted her.
"Thank you both for your help. This matter can be handled by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. You may leave now," Arakawa Shigeto said to Bai Yujing and Li Hao.
Bai Yujing quickly took two pictures of the papers printed with Hydrology and Water Script, then left with Li Hao. Officer Meiko watched them disappear at the staircase and reluctantly said, "Arakawa, why let them go just like that? They must know more information, and it's very likely they are connected to these people. That Heizi is Chinese, a notorious international thief, and they are also Chinese."
"That doesn't mean anything, Meizi. We can't slander anyone without evidence. One of them is an heir to a major corporation, and the other is a well-known figure internationally; they are both foreigners. We must be cautious in our actions and not rush. I believe we will ultimately get the results we want!" Arakawa Shigeto patted Meizi on the shoulder.
"Alright, collect all evidence and clues from here. Then let that family start on the criminal sketch. By the way, immediately notify all airports, customs, and checkpoints to conduct strict inspections. We cannot let this international thief escape from us!"
"Yes, sir!"
