Walking through the towering Torii gates, what Bai Yujing encountered in the Mountain Valley was not the divine palace or buildings he had imagined, but a massive Deep Pit. The pit seemed to be naturally formed, spiraling downwards until it disappeared into an unseen depth.
Numerous ropes were already secured to the rocks nearby, leading directly to the bottom. It appeared that these people descended through here. The pit was unfathomably deep, and the more Bai Yujing looked, the more something felt off: "Why does this feel like a volcano?"
This large Mountain Valley might be a crater left by a volcanic eruption, and this giant pit could be the entrance from when the volcano erupted. However, it seemed that this volcano had been dormant for who knows how long, possibly formed hundreds of thousands of years ago.
As Bai Yujing leaned over to peer into the depths of the pit, he suddenly felt a chill at the back of his head and immediately sensed a gun pressed against his temple. He quickly raised his hands, and the gun from his pocket was taken away.
"Well, if it isn't the famous Treasure Hunter, Mr. Bai," said a young man dressed in formal attire, polite yet with an air of sarcasm. He looked barely in his twenties, appearing as if he might not have even graduated from college, but his words carried an ambiguous tone that made it hard to tell if he was complimenting or mocking.
Accompanying the young man were several others—some in camouflage uniforms holding automatic rifles, while others wore black suits resembling bodyguards. There weren't many of them, just over ten, but almost everyone had a handgun. Bai Yujing even spotted a submachine gun. They were fully armed; no wonder those three outside had met such a gruesome fate—they managed to escape only halfway up the mountain before dying, which showed they were quite agile.
These individuals had been hiding on the other side of the Mountain Valley and had caught sight of Bai Yujing as he passed through the Torii gates. Unbeknownst to him, he had walked right into their trap.
Seeing Bai Yujing's puzzled expression, the young man quickly introduced himself: "By the way, I forgot to introduce myself to Mr. Bai. I am Yuki Keisuke, the current president of the Yoshiwara Society!"
Bai Yujing nodded. He initially thought they were part of Tong Wei's group that had gone down together but did not expect this person to have stayed behind. This individual was quite cunning; he likely planned to take advantage of Tong Wei's exploration below or to seize any treasures they found when they returned.
Both he and Tong Wei's groups had been set up by a Little Devil; just thinking about it made him feel quite displeased and unwilling to accept it!
"How did you know about us? Also, did you steal my pendant?" Bai Yujing asked.
"Ah, it was indeed I who sent someone to take your pendant," Yuki Keisuke replied. "Lucky Person, come over and meet Mr. Bai!" After saying this, he gestured to a subservient-looking man in black who stepped forward—it was indeed the same person who had checked into the hotel in the video and stolen the pendant.
"Very honored to meet you, Mr. Bai!" Lucky Person nodded heavily at Bai Yujing while Yuki Keisuke smiled silently beside him, seemingly confident and triumphant.
Once Lucky Person stepped back, Yuki Keisuke continued: "As for this significant achievement this time, we owe much to Mr. Bai's strong support!"
"Me?" Bai Yujing asked in confusion.
Yuki Keisuke nodded, "That's right. Previously, my nightclub had the honor of receiving the favor of Bai Sang and Li Sang. Li Sang mentioned at the time that Bai Sang is a famous Treasure Hunter, and came here for a significant mission. If it weren't for that, I wouldn't have noticed that such a renowned figure as Bai Sang visited my establishment. It truly is an honor."
"Li Hao, damn you!" Bai Yujing cursed inwardly. Although Bai Yujing didn't remember much, it was definitely that night in Shinjuku. That kid Li Hao got drunk and said whatever came to his mind, proving once again that he had no filter, attracting ill-intentioned people.
"To be honest, my family has been searching for this place for one or two hundred years. Previously, we were like blind men trying to feel an elephant, misled by countless false clues. Until Bai Sang arrived, finally pointing us in the right direction and bringing the other half of the key. Here, I must also thank Bai Sang for the generous assistance!"
"You're welcome, it's nothing!" Bai Yujing laughed awkwardly while scanning the surroundings for an escape route. However, with so many eyes on him and several guns pointed at him while standing on the edge of a cliff, it was indeed a terrible situation.
Bai Yujing could only go along with Yuki Keisuke's words to avoid provoking him into taking action against him and to buy some time: "Family? I wonder which family Lord Yukikuni belongs to?"
"My ancestor is Tokugawa Ieyasu's second son, Yukikuni Hideyasu. My family has historically been the lords of the Echizen Province Fukui Domain. Additionally, I am also a descendant of Yao Biqiu Ni, so the treasure you seek is also left by my ancestors. It is not meant to be shared with outsiders; I hope Bai Sang can understand!" This Yuki Keisuke spoke with a pretentious tone, clearly lacking substance but trying to project an image of grandeur from his lineage.
Bai Yujing immediately flattered him back: "Oh, so you are a descendant of Tokugawa Ieyasu! It's an honor!"
Even as a Chinese, Bai Yujing had heard of Tokugawa Ieyasu. This kid indeed had quite the background. Yao Biqiu Ni is another name for the Eight Hundred Nun. It was unexpected that during her travels, she had married the lord of the Fukui domain and left behind descendants. What he said might actually be true; this place could genuinely be left behind by his ancestors, making himself and Tong Wei akin to intruders in someone else's home.
"The conversation has been sufficient; I believe we won't need Bai Sang for what comes next. My apologies; sayonara!" Yuki Keisuke made a pretentious farewell gesture, and the two people beside him instantly raised their guns at Bai Yujing.
Just as Bai Yujing sighed in despair, a buzzing sound suddenly came from above, drawing everyone's attention. A Drone came rushing towards them, startling everyone and causing gunfire to erupt.
"You fools, don't shoot! Everyone...!"
Before Yuki Keisuke could finish his sentence, Bai Yujing sprang into action like a leopard. He grabbed one of the men who had just aimed a gun at him and pulled him over, seizing the automatic rifle from that man's hands and firing three shots in quick succession, hitting several targets standing in front with submachine guns.
The man quickly struggled but couldn't react as fast as Bai Yujing. In an instant, he was dragged to the ground and rendered powerless. Coupled with Bai Yujing's physical advantages from enhancements and conditioning, he managed to suppress him effectively.
Bai Yujing's actions immediately provoked retaliation; everyone with guns turned towards him. He quickly dragged the man behind him like a shield while bullets pounded against him until he fell silent.
Dragging him behind the Torii, using it as cover from their line of sight, two more people peeked out. In quick succession, Bai Yujing fired two shots that exploded their heads at the exit of the Torii, leaving two corpses behind without anyone daring to retrieve them.
Bai Yujing was panting heavily, feeling a surge of adrenaline coursing through his body. This was his first time killing someone; he didn't experience the urge to vomit that was often depicted in TV shows and novels, but his heart raced as if it might explode. Despite not having exerted himself much, he was drenched in sweat and gasping for breath.
In that brief moment, Bai Yujing had utilized the skills he had honed through long hours of training in martial arts and basic firearms handling. Especially with the last two shots, he raised his hand and fired, hitting the target squarely in the head.
It was these two shots that frightened the others into not daring to pursue him any further. However, to exit Mountain Valley, there was only one path through Torii. The forests on either side led to cliffs by the sea. By securing Torii, Bai Yujing ensured they could not escape. The tide of battle had shifted instantly, making Bai Yujing their greatest threat.
He retrieved the bullets from the person he had used as a shield, along with a spare magazine. These bullets would be enough to eliminate all of them, which was why they dared not move.
Bai Yujing held his gun and cautiously retreated until he reached the entrance of Torii, where he found a concealed spot to sit down. Soon after, he saw Li Hao and Amiya Miri sneaking out from the forest above, visibly shaken.
The earlier Drone had been controlled by Li Hao, which had saved Bai Yujing's life. He called out twice, and the two immediately rushed over to hide behind the rocks with him. They were shocked to see Bai Yujing covered in blood, nearly staining his white T-shirt and Jeans completely red.
“Old Bai, what happened to you?” Li Hao exclaimed, startled. Although he had seen the dangerous situation through the Drone, witnessing it in person was still terrifying.
“It’s nothing; it’s not mine. It’s from that person I used as a shield,” Bai Yujing replied, keeping his eyes fixed on the entrance without relaxing for a moment. “What are you two doing here? Didn’t I tell you not to come? Did you not see how critical this situation is? And you even brought Meili along! Do you think this is just a game?”
“If it weren't for me, you would have been done for!” Li Hao shot back.
As he spoke, he mimicked the dramatic pose of Yuki Keisuke, which made Bai Yujing feel nauseated. “Enough! You brought this trouble upon us! If it weren't for you, we wouldn't be in this mess!”
“How can you say that?” Li Hao asked, confused.
