"Sir, you cannot place your luggage under the seat; please put it in the overhead compartment!" a Flight Attendant said with a smile to Bai Yujing.
Bai Yujing felt a bit embarrassed. Did that mean I brought my pet up here? Bai Yujing could only place the backpack containing Dudu onto the overhead rack, feeling worried that it might fall while doing so.
"Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any questions, feel free to press the button on the remote control!"
After the plane took off, Bai Yujing, feeling uneasy, kept looking at the backpack above, which caught the attention of a little boy with brown hair sitting across from him. At that moment, Bai Yujing saw Li Hao's bag suddenly move, and then it shook a few more times. The little boy's mouth dropped open in surprise.
Bai Yujing noticed that the boy had realized something and immediately made a shushing gesture. The boy nodded seriously. Just then, Bai Yujing's backpack zipper slowly opened, and he felt a weight lift from his head; he immediately knew that Dudu had jumped down.
Bai Yujing quickly raised his eyebrows and looked up; fortunately, he saw nothing unusual. He carefully took Dudu down and tucked him under his seat.
When it was time to eat, Bai Yujing was about to feed some to Totoro Dudu but found nothing under his feet. At that moment, a voice of surprise came from behind him: "What? Who drank my beer?"
"And someone took a bite out of my cheese!"
"Oh my God! What just went under my feet?" A girl immediately tightened her legs and covered her skirt.
Bai Yujing felt quite awkward. At that moment, a crew member came over, looked around for a while but found nothing unusual, and left in confusion. The passengers began to discuss this strange incident happening on the plane.
Meanwhile, the little boy kept staring at Bai Yujing, making him feel somewhat embarrassed while eating. During a break, the boy quietly asked Bai Yujing, "Are you a magician?"
The little boy had freckles on his face, and sitting next to him was presumably his mother, a stout British Gentleman with a bushy mustache who looked very distinguished.
Bai Yujing didn't know how to respond and could only nod. "Yes, but I can't reveal my identity, so I hope you can keep it a secret for me!"
Saying this made Bai Yujing feel even more awkward.
"Is this a promise?" The boy seemed very excited!
"Of course!"
Bai Yujing felt a bit nervous. He wondered where Dudu had run off to. He hoped he hadn't lost the little guy just because they took a trip abroad. When the plane landed at Heathrow Airport and it was time to disembark, Dudu suddenly appeared from who knows where, wearing a blue Flight Attendant hat.
After exiting the terminal, Bai Yujing put Dudu into his backpack. At that moment, Dudu gradually became visible, and then his two pointy ears perked up as he revealed a complete Totoro inside the bag. Dudu also pulled out the Flight Attendant hat from the bottom and placed it on his head.
"You scared me half to death running around like that, and stealing things! I don't remember teaching you to be such a Totoro!"
Dudu squinted his little eyes and, after hearing Bai Yujing's scolding, grinned widely. It was already eight o'clock in the evening Greenwich Mean Time. Bai Yujing had been on a plane for over ten hours and had finally arrived at their destination.
"Hi! Ian!" Suddenly, someone appeared behind him and hugged Bai Yujing tightly. Upon hearing the voice, Bai Yujing knew it was Emma. After such a long time apart, he missed her dearly and turned around to embrace Emma, kissing her immediately.
Bai Yujing leaned Emma against a pillar as she jumped onto him, wrapping her legs around his waist. They held each other for a while before Bai Yujing set Emma down, and they exchanged smiles.
"Long time no see!"
"Long time no see!"
Bai Yujing grabbed his suitcase while Emma took the backpack that was set aside. Bai Yujing quickly said, "There's something in there..."
"Ah!" Emma immediately squealed when she saw the little eyes peeking out from the open bag. It seemed that cute things had an immeasurable impact on girls, no matter which country they were in. "It's Dudu! You brought Dudu with you!"
Bai Yujing shrugged. "That's right. I wanted him to come along and let you meet him—our new family member!"
Emma noticed the unique hat on Dudu's head. "Oh! Darling, maybe you should explain the story behind that hat!"
Bai Yujing pointed one hand toward the sky. "I swear, I didn't do this! The culprit is that guy in the bag; it's his trophy!"
Realizing it wasn't Bai Yujing's doing, Emma didn't punish the real culprit but gently pinched Dudu's chubby cheek. "What a mischievous little guy! Come on, let's go home!"
"Still Ford, still wine red!" Bai Yujing looked at Emma's new car and found that there was hardly any change. Emma seemed to always like the same thing, unlike Bai Yujing, who enjoyed trying new things!
Emma got in and said, "Of course, our family has been loyal fans of Ford since my grandfather's generation!"
At this moment, it was already dark. The weather in England in November was too cold, even colder than the caves back home. Bai Yujing realized he hadn't prepared well for the reunion and took out a light blue wool coat from his bag and put it on.
"Here! Wear this!" Emma tied a white scarf around Bai Yujing. Although it didn't match very well, it still felt warm!
As they admired the night view of London, they finally arrived at one of the districts in London, Kensington. Emma stopped in front of an old house rich in historical significance. It was a row of detached villas with a spacious yard; in a place like Kensington, it must be quite expensive.
The old house looked somewhat aged, with red walls, artistic windows, and a pointed roof with a chimney. Although it had some years on it, it seemed to have been recently renovated. A semi-circular balcony extended outward; seeing this made Bai Yujing think of scenes from Shakespeare's plays.
Aren't the female protagonists always standing on such balconies, singing to the male protagonists below? Bai Yujing couldn't help but exclaim, "So romantic!"
Emma immediately replied, "What do you think? Isn't it great? I really love old houses with stories, so I bought it!"
"I like it too! Are we staying here tonight? It feels like a dream!"
Emma quickly said, "Of course! I'll take you inside to have a look; you’re going to love it. By the way, Bethany is here too. Daisy and the others went on their wedding anniversary trip to Italy, so I'm taking care of Bethany for now!"
After saying that, Emma took Dudu out of her backpack. "Let's go, Dudu! We're home!"
In the yard, there were a few small saplings planted, and the lawn was neatly trimmed. As they pushed open the door and walked in, a little girl with black hair ran out and jumped onto Emma. Then she immediately spotted Bai Yujing: "Ian! It's Ian!"
The little one shouted excitedly as Bai Yujing took out a Totoro plush toy from his bag. "Bethany, this is a gift for you!"
Bethany looked at the Totoro plush toy in her hands and then at Dudu squatting at Emma's feet. She immediately dropped the toy and pounced on Dudu: "I want this one!"
Dudu immediately took off running, and Bethany chased after her: "Don't run!"
Emma and Bai Yujing were laughing heartily at the back. The house was not as old as they had imagined; the overall decoration was very stylish. However, aside from the main structure, most of the materials used were wood, giving it a unique charm.
The first floor featured a large living room, but all the walls had been knocked down, so from the entrance, one could see five or six rooms connected together. Columns, beams, and potted plants were creatively arranged to create an interwoven spatial feeling, which was very elegant.
The hall was at the front, leading to a corridor adorned with various flowers and potted plants, followed by the dining room, and finally the kitchen. The spacious kitchen had shelves densely packed with tableware, neat and clean.
"I'm going to start preparing dinner now. I picked you up after returning from school; Bethany should be hungry too! We're having pasta tonight, how does that sound?" Emma suddenly remembered something and began to prepare.
Bai Yujing immediately said, "Wait a moment!"
"What?"
Bai Yujing quickly ran to the entrance and took out a box from her suitcase. She then rushed back to Emma and said, "This is a gift for you!"
Emma glanced at Bai Yujing and smiled as she opened the box. Inside, she saw a pristine jade bracelet lying in a red box, sparkling under the light. "Oh my gosh, it's so beautiful!"
Bai Yujing immediately took the jade bracelet out, held Emma's hand, and slipped it onto her slender wrist. The fair arm paired with the jade bracelet looked stunning!
Emma immediately hugged Bai Yujing and said, "Thank you, Bai Yujing!"
She said this in Chinese, and Bai Yujing was very surprised to hear it!
