Bai Yujing was comfortably nestled on the sofa, watching a documentary about Antarctica. On the table lay a map of Antarctica, but in the vast expanse of Antarctica, there were only a few places clearly marked with names, which could be counted on a few fingers. Most of the area was just a boundless expanse of white snow, devoid of anything else.
The television was showing various aspects of Antarctica's scientific research and its harsh environment. After watching, Bai Yujing felt that the difficulties presented were beyond his imagination, let alone what he might encounter if he were actually there. However, being prepared was certainly better than having no idea at all.
At that moment, Bai Yujing's phone rang. His current phone had encrypted signals; he used separate devices for playing and making calls, which made him feel a bit more secure.
"Hello, Bai Yujing, are you at my brother's hotel now?" The voice on the other end was Lin Ruoqiao's, which was unusual since she rarely called him.
Bai Yujing paused the documentary and immediately asked, "Do you know Brother Bai? Also, the sun is rising from the west today; are you really calling me? Have you lost your mind?"
"Bai Yujing!" Lin Ruoqiao's tone rose several notches like an angry cat. However, just as she was about to explode, her voice softened: "How could that be? Brother Bai, I’m worried about you since you got injured. I came to check on you and I'm already downstairs at the hotel, so I wanted to see if you're here."
Bai Yujing felt a bit confused: "Alright, I'm at the hotel; just come up!"
After hanging up the phone, several idioms flashed through Bai Yujing's mind: a weasel wishing a chicken a happy new year—no good intentions? No, no, that's not right; it must be that there's no such thing as a free lunch!
When Bai Yujing opened the door, he saw Lin Ruoqiao entering with some nutritional supplements and placing them aside. Bai Yujing said, "Why did you buy these? I'm leaving tomorrow!"
"What? You're leaving so soon? Why not stay a bit longer?" Lin Ruoqiao looked very surprised.
Bai Yujing replied, "Haven't you been looking forward to my departure? Why do you suddenly seem reluctant?"
Lin Ruoqiao immediately shook Bai Yujing's arm and said, "I haven't! I'm just worried about you! Your health isn't fully restored yet; why are you in such a hurry to go back?"
Bai Yujing reached out and touched Lin Ruoqiao's head: "You’re not running a fever, are you? Why have you suddenly changed your attitude?"
Lin Ruoqiao said angrily, "Aren't we friends? What's wrong with caring about friends? I was really worried about you when you were injured and in the hospital. It was me who took you to the hospital, you ungrateful person!"
Upon hearing this, Bai Yujing felt a bit embarrassed, realizing that perhaps he had overthought things. "Now that I've finished my work here, there's no need to stay any longer. I'm almost fully recovered; the rest can be taken care of at home. You little girl are quite something; suddenly you know how to care for others. You should pay more attention to your brother; he has been worried about you and has put in a lot of effort!"
Lin Ruoqiao pouted, "He nags every day. I borrowed his car once and just bumped it a little, and now he treats me like I'm a thief. What a miser!"
Bai Yujing shot Lin Ruoqiao a glance, "If I were your brother, I would have broken your legs."
Lin Ruoqiao rolled her eyes and looked at the map and books on the table. "What are you reading? 'The Worst Trip in the World' and 'Expedition to the Ice and Snow World.'"
She picked one up and flipped through it, immediately noticing that the map was of Antarctica. "These books are related to Antarctica. What are you looking at this for?"
Bai Yujing took the book from Lin Ruoqiao's hands. "It's nothing much. Aren't I a Traveler? What's strange about looking at geography books from around the world?"
Bai Yujing changed the subject and turned off the TV, but Lin Ruoqiao had already seen the frozen landscape on the screen where people were skiing, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.
Bai Yujing put away the book and folded the map. "Alright, you've seen enough. I don't have anything going on here; look, you're in good health, and there's nothing fun to do here—just me, a guy without any romantic flair. If you have nothing to do, you should head back early..."
At this point, Bai Yujing remembered something. "By the way, today is Tuesday. Why do you have time to come here? Don't you have school?"
Lin Ruoqiao immediately smiled awkwardly, trying to think of an excuse to brush it off. Bai Yujing quickly caught onto her intention: "Did you skip school again? You just said you've changed a bit; you're not doing well in school at all! I'm calling your brother and your dad right now!"
Lin Ruoqiao immediately raised her hands in surrender. "No, don't tell them! Otherwise, they'll annoy me to death! I'll go back to school right now!"
Bai Yujing looked at Lin Ruoqiao and asked, "Really?"
"Really, really! I'm leaving right now!" Lin Ruoqiao immediately slung her backpack over her shoulder and walked outside. Bai Yujing accompanied her to the elevator.
At that moment, Lin Ruoqiao suddenly asked, "Are you going somewhere fun again? Being a Traveler is great; you can go everywhere every day, no classes, you get paid, you can find treasures, and it's thrilling and exciting!"
Bai Yujing immediately put on a serious face and said, "That's an adult's business. I won't be going out this month. After I get home, I'll rest for a while. You should listen to your brother more while you're here; don't make your dad and brother worry about you!"
Lin Ruoqiao's eyes lit up as she remembered what Bai Yujing had accidentally let slip. "So there are plans later? Where are you going? To Antarctica?"
"Hey? Why are you asking so many questions, you little rascal? Hurry up and go to school!" Bai Yujing impatiently pushed Lin Ruoqiao into the elevator. "Just go to school honestly; don’t run off halfway. I’ll call your brother later to ask the teachers at school!"
Lin Ruoqiao immediately made a face at Bai Yujing in dissatisfaction. As Bai Yujing watched the elevator doors slowly close, she couldn't help but smile. For someone like Bai Yujing and Li Hao, having such a mischievous younger sister must be both enjoyable and frustrating, yet they still found joy in it.
When Bai Yujing returned to her room, she suddenly felt dizzy and quickly noticed her breathing becoming rapid. When she lifted her head, she realized that the world around her seemed much clearer.
With each heartbeat, Bai Yujing felt as if her eyes were like a magnifying glass, rapidly bringing the distant world closer. She could even see a small ant on a window several meters away.
"What is happening?" Bai Yujing was startled, but as her heart calmed down, her vision returned to normal. However, the world around her was indeed much brighter and more colorful. Although Bai Yujing had some red color blindness, the red wooden coffee table in the living room appeared much more vibrant to her eyes. She could even observe tiny dust particles in the air.
Bai Yujing felt that this enhancement of her physical condition seemed to bring some change to her body, but she couldn't quite pinpoint what it was.
