Bai Yujing met with the Research Team at the airport in the capital city. A few days ago, under the secret arrangement of Qian Jia, Bai Yujing left Guang Province without informing anyone of their specific whereabouts, and was assigned to be part of the Research Team under the guise of a logistics staff member.
Bai Yujing was set to take a flight from here to Ushuaia, the southernmost city in Argentina, and then from there board a Research Vessel heading to Antarctica, embarking on the ultimate purpose of this journey.
When Bai Yujing arrived at the airport, they were placed in a special waiting lounge. The lounge was not large, but everyone sitting there was a member of the Research Team. All were tightly gathered together, dressed in heavy down jackets, each carrying a large backpack. However, there were a few who were dressed more casually, which made Bai Yujing feel somewhat amused.
At that moment, Liu Xinwu stood at the front of the lounge, explaining to everyone what they should pay attention to when heading to Antarctica, telling them what to prepare and what to be cautious about. When Bai Yujing entered, Liu Xinwu patted Bai Yujing on the shoulder and said, "You're here; just sit in the back. We'll board together later. I have something to discuss with you!"
Next to Bai Yujing sat a chubby girl who, upon seeing Bai Yujing wearing a mask and taking a seat, curiously asked, "Are you also part of this expedition team?"
Bai Yujing nodded. "Yes, I'm from the logistics team!"
The girl nodded while hugging her large backpack. "Oh! I'm here with Professor Zhu. Originally, Professor Su was supposed to lead this trip, but due to some sudden health issues and age considerations, they replaced him with the younger Professor Zhu! This is my first time going to Antarctica; it's been my dream for so long, and now it's finally coming true!"
Bai Yujing realized that this girl was quite talkative and extremely excited. She kept expressing her feelings non-stop, almost like a chatterbox, which made Bai Yujing feel overwhelmed!
"What about you? Is this your first time going to Antarctica? What are you going there for?"
"Yes, it's my first time too; I'm going for work. It seems like boarding is starting; let's get going!"
Finally noticing the activity ahead, Bai Yujing immediately said as they eagerly stood up. Was liberation finally at hand?
Everyone began the boarding process; all had to remove their outer down jackets and place them in their luggage. Each person underwent thorough checks and searches before being allowed through.
Everyone received a set of clothes based on their height and weight, all in red with Chinese symbols, while the pants were uniformly black. Bai Yujing finally understood why the others hadn't prepared; they probably weren't first-timers and had known about the clothing distribution long ago!
Under the guard of a row of armed security personnel, Bai Yujing finally boarded the plane. The level of security exceeded Bai Yujing's expectations. However, upon entering the aircraft, Bai Yujing was taken aback; this was not a passenger plane but a transport aircraft. The cabin was filled with many pipes and exposed wiring, looking very crude and rough.
Most of the cabin was occupied by various supply boxes, leaving only a small area on the other side where a row of seats had been temporarily set up against the cabin wall. Sitting there provided no sense of safety at all!
Members of the Research Team lined up one after another to board the plane. Under Liu Xinwu's direction, they took their seats in order. Bai Yujing was assigned to sit next to Liu Xinwu, who checked everyone's luggage and ensured their seatbelts were fastened before sitting down beside Bai Yujing.
"Pull up your down jacket and put on your hat. If you have a sweater and thermal underwear, put on a couple more layers now!" Liu Xinwu instructed Bai Yujing.
Bai Yujing was taken aback: "I'm already wearing quite a bit; I feel a bit hot. Even when we get to South America, this will be enough!"
Liu Xinwu looked at Bai Yujing as if he were foolish and immediately pointed to the entire cabin: "This is a transport cabin, so it doesn't have the temperature control system like a passenger plane. Once the plane takes off, the temperature will drop rapidly and plummet towards freezing!"
Bai Yujing suddenly froze, looking at the pile of boxes in front of him and the densely packed pipes above. He realized that this was what the treatment for members of the Research Team was like—completely ridiculous!
While watching Bai Yujing add more layers, Liu Xinwu continued, "Besides you and me in this expedition team, there are also our logistics driver Li Xiang and demolition expert Liu Hai!"
Liu Xinwu introduced the two people beside him: one was Li Xiang, a young man in his twenties who appeared very capable; the other was Liu Hai, a robust man in his forties. Bai Yujing nodded, and Li Xiang immediately smiled at him while Liu Hai shook his hand firmly.
Liu Xinwu went on to say, "There are also two others sitting further away: one is geologist Professor Zhu Wei, and the other is polar explorer Zhou Jun. Additionally, there's a PhD in surveying from our department named Wen Feng, but he's not here; he's waiting for us at the Research Station!"
Bai Yujing nodded. There were six people plus himself—a well-rounded team. It seemed Qian Jia had considered everything thoroughly. This made Bai Yujing feel much more assured: "Okay, I understand now, Brother Liu. I'm here on a mission this time, but I'm not familiar with the situation in Antarctica, so I will need your help and support!"
Liu Xinwu nodded seriously, "You can say whatever you need to. I'm even prepared for sacrifice. The leader and Team Leader Qian have already spoken to me. White Collar Team, you can give any tasks or orders directly, and I will definitely carry out what you say!"
Ah! Their awareness is so high. In contrast, Bai Yujing still wanted to successfully find the ruins and return intact. "No need, no need, it's not that serious!"
Once the plane took off, Bai Yujing immediately felt the temperature inside the airport drop sharply and continue to fall. Everyone pulled up the hoods of their down jackets, zipped them all the way to the top, and stood their collars up to cover their mouths, wrapping themselves tightly.
The previously quiet murmurs disappeared at this moment; the entire cabin fell silent. Everyone was too cold to speak or move. This discomfort made Bai Yujing start to miss the business class on airplanes.
However, the advantage of this transport aircraft is its speed. If it were a regular passenger plane, it would take at least 13 hours to travel from Beijing to Ushuaia, Argentina, assuming a direct flight without any layovers. But with this transport aircraft, it only takes about seven or eight hours to reach Ushuaia.
Everyone surrounded by their fluffy hats sealed their mouths and dozed off as the transport aircraft crossed half the globe toward the southernmost part of South America.
