Stepping forward on the snowboard helps avoid sinking into the snow, continuously saving energy while also increasing speed. Even so, a highly experienced polar survivor can only advance a few dozen kilometers after spending sixteen hours each day.
Bai Yujing had been moving for nearly two hours and was gradually delving deeper into this frozen prehistoric lake. Zhu Wei nodded, "This should be good. Let's prepare and look for nearby ice crevices."
Bai Yujing used his ski pole to probe left and right, while the searchlight on his head scanned the ground. The two moved in a straight line, continuously searching the nearby cracked ice areas. However, as they moved forward, Bai Yujing's searchlight flicked to the left and then quickly returned. He immediately shone the light back.
On the left side of the snow surface, two rows of shallow footprints appeared before Bai Yujing. They looked somewhat old; with the wind and snow covering them, they would likely disappear soon.
Bai Yujing's first reaction was not to check the footprints but to scan the surroundings, checking if their owner might still be nearby. His sharp gaze swept left and right with the searchlight, while his hands pressed against his pockets, ready to confront any potential enemies.
However, the owner of these footprints had likely left long ago. Bai Yujing's caution yielded no results. He crouched beside the footprints to examine them closely as Zhu Wei approached. "Another set of these footprints—two rows, one large and one small. Could this creature still be part of a pack?"
Bai Yujing nodded. "It's very possible. Given the depth and how long they've been covered by snow, this creature left not long ago—probably less than two or three hours. We need to complete our exploration mission quickly and leave here!"
Before long, Bai Yujing finally found a relatively narrow ice crevice. He slowly cleared away the thick layer of snow with a shovel, revealing its true form. Then he signaled Zhu Wei to get ready and lay down on the ground to explore inside. The crevice seemed bottomless; as he got closer to the bottom, the space widened.
Bai Yujing turned back and said, "It should be fine; secure the rope well. I'm going down!"
After checking his backpack and confirming that the small ice drill was functioning properly, Bai Yujing prepared to descend. He moved down along the crevice; the light reflected off the ice surface, creating layers of brightness. The ice crystals were transparent with a faint blue hue, completely different from ordinary ice cubes—almost like gemstones.
"The ice is very hard, presenting blue crystalline structures with bubbles and good transparency!" Bai Yujing reported immediately to Zhu Wei above.
Zhu Wei nodded in agreement. "That's right; this blue ice could only have formed from ice crystals accumulated over more than ten thousand years. The bubbles in the ice mean that if you place an ice cube with many bubbles in a glass of wine, you'll hear crackling sounds! Scientists study ancient air composition through the air trapped in these bubbles; this blue ice is likely even older!"
Bai Yujing said, "I'll go down a bit further to take a look!"
Bai Yujing wedged her body into the ice and slowly descended. The world within this ice crevice was fully revealed before her eyes, beautiful and captivating, like an unimaginably large sapphire displayed in front of her.
Bai Yujing shone her spotlight downward and suddenly froze in place. She saw a pair of eyes—crimson eyes—staring intently at her, filled with murderous intent and malice. Bai Yujing was startled but soon realized that this creature seemed to be frozen within the ice, unable to move, and had likely been dead for an unknown length of time.
Bai Yujing felt that this creature looked very familiar. As she directed the spotlight downwards, she immediately recognized its true form: covered in scales, with strong muscles, sharp claws, and fangs. Wasn't this the kind of monster she had encountered in the Eight Hundred Bhikkhuni Tomb?
How could it be here as well? Bai Yujing thought she must have found the right place; this area was likely related to Atlantis, and perhaps the ruins of Atlantis were nearby.
"What's wrong? Why aren't you speaking?" came Zhu Wei's voice from above.
Bai Yujing replied, "I discovered a creature frozen in the ice; it startled me!"
"It might be a creature that lived in this lake during ancient times. When Antarctica entered its glacial period, it got trapped in this blue ice. With such low temperatures, it's like a giant icehouse preserving these prehistoric creatures!" Zhu Wei explained to Bai Yujing.
Bai Yujing nodded, "I think this is it. I've seen this kind of creature before; it's related to Atlantis. I believe the ruins are likely nearby!"
Zhu Wei's voice immediately became excited, trembling slightly as she asked, "Are you serious?"
Bai Yujing rarely heard emotion in Zhu Wei's voice, let alone such excitement. It seemed that finding Atlantis was very important to her. Bai Yujing nodded and said, "That's right; I'm about fifty percent sure!"
Zhu Wei remained silent for a long time. After waiting for a while, she finally said, "Let's first extract some ice columns for testing; we need to analyze the conditions of this lake in ancient times!"
Bai Yujing immediately placed his foot against the Ice Wall, then took out a small ice drill from his backpack. After starting it, he saw the drill bit spinning rapidly, just like an electric drill, but while the electric drill's bit is a point, the ice drill's bit is a ring.
The ice drill spun quickly and slowly penetrated the ice layer under Bai Yujing's strong arms. Finally, he pulled out a section of light blue ice column. Bai Yujing wrapped the ice column in a cloth and stuffed it into the vertical pocket on the side of his backpack. In this environment of minus forty degrees during the polar night, Bai Yujing was not worried at all about it melting.
This expedition was fruitful, and Bai Yujing felt there was no need to explore a few more places. After returning to base for some rest, the entire expedition team would come here together for the final task, concentrating all their efforts to find Atlantis.
“Zhu Wei, I'm ready to go up; pull me up!”

“Zhu Wei!”
Bai Yujing called out twice in succession, but there was no response from above. Frowning slightly, Bai Yujing grabbed the rope and pushed hard against the ice crystal wall with his feet, climbing up little by little. As he climbed faster, the crevice above became narrower and easier to leverage. In just a few moments, Bai Yujing reached the top.
“Zhu Wei, what happened? Why did you suddenly—”
Bai Yujing poked his head out from the crevice and looked toward where Zhu Wei was. He saw Zhu Wei sitting on the ground, covering his mouth with a shocked expression on his face, staring directly at Bai Yujing as if something particularly terrifying were behind him.
Bai Yujing's heart skipped a beat. Turning around, he saw a tall White-Furred Monster crouched beside the ice crevice, its fist-sized eyes fixed intently on Bai Yujing.
