Bai Yujing glanced back and then silently retracted his head. However, what Bai Yujing did not expect was that the White-Furred Monster grabbed the rope and pulled Bai Yujing out entirely. Bai Yujing was thus held up by the rope, slowly emerging from the ground.
The White-Furred Giant also lowered its head, locking eyes with Bai Yujing. This was a bit awkward. The White-Furred Monster pointed at the backpack behind Bai Yujing. Bai Yujing was taken aback; did this guy want his bag?
Stuck in a crevice of ice, unable to go up or down, the way out was completely blocked by the Giant Monster, while below was an unfathomable abyss. Bai Yujing found himself in a bit of a predicament.
"Do you want this?" Bai Yujing pointed at the Giant Monster and then at his backpack. The more than two-meter-tall White-Furred Monster nodded in agreement.
Bai Yujing immediately took off his backpack. The Giant Monster's sharp claws grasped Bai Yujing's backpack as if it were a small pouch. It shook it and rummaged through it, spilling out the ice drill, food, and ice pick inside. Unfortunately, it seemed that there was nothing it wanted. The White-Furred Monster rubbed its fluffy head.
"Roar!"
The Giant Monster made another move, pointing at Bai Yujing's body. Bai Yujing looked down and glanced around; he had nothing on him except for his clothes! Wait, Bai Yujing suddenly remembered that he always carried the Center with him, kept close to his body. The Giant Monster couldn't possibly want the Center!
Bai Yujing slowly took out a box from his pocket. Upon opening it, a faint glow emanated from within, revealing a crystal ball filled with swirling light points. The White-Furred Monster immediately became excited, lowering its head and letting out a low growl as if it could hardly wait.
The Giant Monster reached out to grab it, but Zhu Wei behind him shouted loudly, "You can't give it that!"
Bai Yujing did not respond to Zhu Wei's words; instead, he quickly closed the box, causing the faint light to disappear instantly. Then he threw the box with all his might; the small black box arced through the sky as Bai Yujing hurled it far away.
The Giant Monster immediately stood up on all fours and dashed toward the direction where the box had been thrown.
Bai Yujing quickly crawled out of the ice crevice and hurriedly gathered his scattered backpack. He left behind some unimportant items, including the ice drill, and swiftly pulled Zhu Wei along. "We need to get out of here!"
Zhu Wei anxiously said, "We can't give them that thing; that's..."
"That's the key to opening Poseidonia, right? You seem to know quite a bit! Don't worry; the item is still here!" Bai Yujing smugly pulled out a crystal ball from his pocket and said to Zhu Wei.
Bai Yujing stepped onto his snowboard. "Let's hurry! If that Giant Monster realizes we've tricked it, it'll catch up to us quickly!"
Zhu Wei understood the situation as well. The two quickly pushed off on their snowboards and began retracing their steps. On their way here, they had taken their time searching carefully; however, on their return trip, both were feeling anxious. With a creature over two meters tall and arms thicker than Zhu Wei's waist chasing after them at any moment, they were both quite nervous.
The Giant Monster searched through a snowy area for quite some time before finally finding the small box that Bai Yujing had used to hold the Center in a small snow pit. It opened the box with a finger only to discover that it was empty—the beautiful crystal ball that had been inside was nowhere to be found.
Even with the Giant Monster's somewhat limited intellect, it understood that it had been tricked by Bai Yujing. Its eyes widened in anger as it crushed the box in its grip.
"Roar!"
A tremendous roar echoed from afar, causing the snow on the trembling peaks to begin sliding down. The sound carried an ear-piercing sawing noise, long and unsettling. Bai Yujing and Zhu Wei were hurriedly fleeing, their faces turning pale upon hearing the sound, immediately realizing that the Giant Monster had discovered that the Center was no longer in the box.
Quickly, their movements accelerated as they crouched down, pushing their snowboards forward with force. It was as if they were gliding across the snowy plain, moving at an astonishing speed.
Bai Yujing felt his skiing skills improving once again, experiencing a sense of enlightenment. Was it true that a sense of crisis could bring out one's potential?
The two rushed forward for about twenty to thirty minutes when Bai Yujing sensed that the Giant Monster was unlikely to catch up. He relaxed his grip and began to move slowly. Suddenly, a hurried running sound came from behind them, and the ground seemed to tremble under a tremendous force.
Bai Yujing turned around and, using the starlight, saw a massive figure charging toward them from a distance, resembling a giant bear. It was using all four limbs, its enormous paws clawing at the ground while its powerful hind legs propelled it forward with incredible speed—faster than Bai Yujing's skiing.
"Damn it, that monster is catching up! Run!"
Without needing Bai Yujing to say anything further, Zhu Wei immediately increased his effort. However, the Giant Monster was gaining speed; upon spotting Bai Yujing's shadow, it let out another furious roar and surged forward with even greater force. Bai Yujing's earlier antics had thoroughly enraged the Giant Monster.
The two fought hard to advance, their snowboards leaving long trails in the snow as they kicked up flurries of snowflakes. The sound of their boards scraping against the snow echoed urgently, but the Giant Monster continued to close in on them.
They could hear the rapid footsteps and heavy breathing of the Giant Monster echoing in their ears. They could even feel each jump and movement of the Giant Monster vibrating through the ground beneath them. At this moment, Bai Yujing and Zhu Wei dared not speak; they could only accelerate relentlessly.
After chasing them for over ten minutes since spotting their shadows, the Giant Monster finally closed in on them. It lunged forward in an attempt to block their path. Bai Yujing and Zhu Wei instinctively dodged in perfect sync, evading the Giant Monster's attack and quickly circling back in the snow before speeding away.
After being momentarily hindered, the Giant Monster accelerated again, continuously lunging at them. Using their agility with the snowboards and ski poles, they kept dodging the Giant Monster's attacks, but each time it felt precarious; if they continued like this, it was only a matter of time before they would be caught.
Bai Yujing realized this situation couldn't continue and shouted loudly, "We need to split up! There's only one Giant Monster!"
"What if it chases me?" Zhu Wei's face changed.
"It won't!" After saying this, Bai Yujing quickly changed direction and swiftly separated from Zhu Wei. The Giant Monster paused to look around before finally locking onto Bai Yujing and charging after him.
Bai Yujing turned back to see the Giant Monster relentlessly pursuing him and couldn't help but smile wryly. "I knew it would be like this!"
"Roar!" The Giant Monster continued its pursuit and suddenly leaped over Bai Yujing's head with its powerful jumping ability, landing directly in front of him. Bai Yujing barely had time to brake and found himself on a collision course with the Giant Monster.
The Giant Monster revealed a ferocious grin, its mouth wide open, filled with sharp teeth that carried a hint of blood, as if mocking Bai Yujing: "You're finished now!"
The Giant Monster extended its enormous palm, charging towards Bai Yujing. At that moment, a shadow suddenly passed by and wrapped around Bai Yujing, using the force of the action to pull Bai Yujing out. However, both of them ended up tumbling over.
With its attack missing, the Giant Monster immediately focused on Zhu Wei, who had come to rescue Bai Yujing, letting out an irritated and angry roar. It could not accept being toyed with repeatedly by these two little bugs, especially as the ruler of this area.
Bai Yujing looked at Zhu Wei, who had come back to save him: "Why did you come back?"
Zhu Wei quickly replied, "Get up! The Giant Monster is coming after us again!"
The two quickly got back on their feet and dashed past the Giant Monster from its side. Its massive size made turning around very cumbersome. Bai Yujing and Zhu Wei had previously evaded several of its attacks using this method.
Zhu Wei then said, "Do you remember the huge ice crevice we found earlier?"
Bai Yujing immediately recalled that they had discovered an ice crevice there before. However, because the space below was too vast, Bai Yujing couldn't hold on while lowering himself with a rope to retrieve ice, making it quite troublesome, so they hadn't used it.
"Are you saying we should lure it there?" Bai Yujing understood Zhu Wei's intention.
Zhu Wei nodded: "Exactly. With the weight of this Giant Monster, the ice layer covering that crevice definitely won't be able to hold it. This is our only option!"
Bai Yujing and Zhu Wei quickly set off, leading the Giant Monster towards the ice crevice they had discovered earlier. The howling wind mixed with the Giant Monster's heavy breathing and running sounds. Bai Yujing never imagined he would experience such a polar escape in the interior of Antarctica.
