Zhu Wei fiddled with the control panel, continuously searching for the panel that controlled the internal systems in the Control Room. However, due to his unfamiliarity, he couldn't determine it right away. It would take some time to completely shut down the entrance opened by Bai Yujing, and by the time that happened, Bai Yujing would have long escaped beyond Poseidonia.
Bai Yujing hurriedly donned her respirator, pushed her goggles up from her forehead, and leaped down from the open entrance of the spaceship, holding onto a scale of a mermaid as if it were a pass. A transparent light membrane swept over Bai Yujing's body, but nothing unusual occurred.
Bai Yujing kicked her legs and swam downward. A large number of bubbles rose from the bottom. Bai Yujing widened her eyes and stretched out her arms, waving them to both sides as she forcefully dove deeper into the water.
“Lalalala! La la!”
“Hehehe!”
The sound of women became clearer as it came from below. By now, Bai Yujing still hadn't quite figured out how the voices of the Merfolk were produced. As she continued to swim downward, she finally saw a captivating scene.
A group of beautiful women with bare upper bodies swam toward her while she was swimming down. They formed groups as they swam upward, their stunning faces and enchanting figures accompanied by bubbles rising through the water.
Their elongated fish tails moved gracefully, exuding an exotic beauty, resembling a group of Water Spirits approaching on waves and bubbles. Above Bai Yujing was a layer of light membrane, with a faint blue glow casting down upon her, while below was an abyssal darkness that obscured the bottom.
These seemingly ethereal beings emerging from the ocean drew closer to Bai Yujing, leaving her mesmerized and forgetting to continue her descent.
“Hehehe!”
“Glug glug!”
“Splash!”
The laughter of mermaids, the sound of bubbles, and the splashing of fish tails all reached Bai Yujing's ears. These beautiful beings, some with long blue hair and others with long black hair, brushed past Bai Yujing. A few, curious and playful, circled around Bai Yujing, while most offered friendly smiles.
A mermaid with long blue hair approached Bai Yujing from below. Her slender, fair fingers brushed across Bai Yujing's face. Bai Yujing felt a faint warmth from her touch. She appeared to be around seventeen or eighteen years old, and her delicate arms reached into Bai Yujing's pocket to take out a scale.
"Thank you!"
She kissed Bai Yujing on the cheek, her light purple eyes smiling slightly, and her lips curved into a gentle arc. Then, with a flick of her tail, she dove upward. Bai Yujing stood there in a daze, touching her cheek and looking at her fingers, revealing a bewildered smile.
As for her thank you, Bai Yujing was unsure whether it was for returning the scale or for opening the gates to Poseidonia for them.
Bai Yujing dove downward, noticing that there were still many mermaids behind her. She estimated there were nearly a hundred of them—these were the last remnants of Atlantis in this world.
However, following the mermaids were numerous scaled monsters, the same kind Bai Yujing had seen before. A large number of these creatures trailed behind the Merfolk without paying any attention to Bai Yujing as they passed by.
What surprised Bai Yujing even more was that several of these monsters were dragging a chain attached to a Crystal Coffin. Looking into the coffin, Bai Yujing saw a girl around seventeen or eighteen years old dressed in a white robe.
One of the Giant Monsters seemed to move quickly and bumped into a companion nearby, causing the crystal coffin to shake violently. Bai Yujing saw black hair spill out from beneath the restrained headscarf.
Bai Yujing's mouth dropped open as she watched the Crystal Coffin being pulled away by these monsters. Although it was just a fleeting moment, she recognized that it was the remains of the Eight Hundred Nun.
"How could she be here?"
Bai Yujing suddenly recalled that after the collapse of Eight Hundred Nun Cave, the missing remains and those monsters were connected in this way. She remembered the information she had reviewed after returning home: according to legends about the Eight Hundred Nun, it was said that her Mermaid's Blood was granted to her because she saved a trapped mermaid.
The Eight Hundred Nun left behind a Tea Set, which includes a painting. She received a part of the Center from a mysterious entity, and recalling all the clues she had gathered, she made a guess at that time.
In her youth, Eight Hundred Nun, known as Takahashi Murasaki, was a fisher girl who one day, while fishing, accidentally heard a voice. In an underground cave by the sea, she rescued a mermaid.
That place was a natural water gate palace. When the water receded, the mermaid was stranded in the cave, and it was young Takahashi Murasaki who saved her. As a result, Takahashi Murasaki received a gift from the mermaid, gaining an immortal body and taking on the mission entrusted by the Merfolk to find another part of the Center.
However, throughout Takahashi Murasaki's long life, she was unable to find the other half of the Center. Ultimately suffering from the pains of immortality, she returned home with the Center, just as the last line of that poem states: "Carrying what my old friend entrusted to me, I buried it in my hometown!"
Bai Yujing looked up; perhaps there was someone up there who was her old friend!
A question in Bai Yujing's heart settled down. She felt that she had successfully completed her goal. Everything she wanted to do, see, and understand had come to a conclusion and answer. Bai Yujing turned around and swam vigorously toward the Bottom. Before long, she fell into darkness and immediately turned on the spotlight on her head.
Looking back, she saw above her a huge circular opening, and overhead was an enormous object with no visible end; this was Poseidonia, a Spaceship capable of interstellar travel—something that could only be seen in novels with current human technology.
It was truly immense. Bai Yujing stared at such a magnificent technological marvel, momentarily speechless. Considering its internal structure, it could easily accommodate twenty million people without any issues. One could imagine the grandeur of Atlantis in its prime; now, however, there were fewer than a hundred survivors left.
The temperature of the seawater was not as cold as Bai Yujing had imagined; it even carried a hint of warmth. This was a prehistoric lake in Antarctica, connected to the ocean. Bai Yujing oriented herself and swam upward with all her might. She knew this distance was long and that her oxygen supply would not last much longer; even if she conserved it, she could only use it for half an hour.
That was far from enough to swim out of this prehistoric lake. She needed to reach the surface quickly. Bai Yujing understood that there was some distance between the ice layer and the water's surface; as long as she swam upward and broke through the surface, she would be able to breathe air.
"Time to risk my life again!" Bai Yujing tightened her backpack straps; that Magnetite and green crystal slab were all her gains from this journey, and she had to bring them out.
