"Ah ah..."
Bai Yujing's hands finally reached the Ice Surface, and using both hands and feet, she crawled up from the thousand-meter deep abyss, gasping for breath as she lay on the snow and ice. She felt like she had turned into a popsicle. In such frigid conditions, Bai Yujing was only wearing thermal underwear and a sweater, her face was reddened to an abnormal degree from the cold. Her original outerwear had been left behind in Poseidonia because it couldn't fit into her backpack.
Bai Yujing knew that in her current state, she absolutely could not lie on the ground, so she quickly stood up and hurried toward the nearby campsite. Before descending, Bai Yujing had moved everything useful to this location along with the campsite.
It must be said that the area below Gorge and above it felt like two different worlds. Below, there was a faint warmth, while above it was minus forty degrees. The slow ascent felt like transforming from water into ice, as she gradually froze solid.
Bai Yujing shivered as she crawled into the tent and pulled out a down jacket to put on. It was a blue down jacket, not the one issued by the expedition team.
Bai Yujing turned on the gas stove, but due to the low temperature, it took a long time to ignite; her hand trembled slightly as she tried to light it. After much effort, she finally got a flame going and watched as the inside of the tent gradually warmed up. She placed dehydrated vegetable packs and beef packs into a metal basin, watching as the aroma of meat began to waft out, making her swallow involuntarily.
After finishing her meal and feeling her body return to normal, Bai Yujing did not linger for a moment and immediately prepared to set off again. Although she had been awake for nearly forty hours without rest and felt her eyelids fighting against each other, Bai Yujing knew that time would not wait for her.
Today marked the sixth day since she had separated from Zhou Jun and Li Xiang. Although there were still ten hours left today, by the time she returned to Kunlun Station, it would already be past the seventh day at best!
Zhou Jun and his team needed two days to reach the supply docking point they had initially set up. According to their agreement, they would wait for Bai Yujing there for three days. Since Bai Yujing had informed them one night in advance, today marked Zhou Jun's last day waiting for her.
She needed to hurry back immediately to use the signal base station inside Kunlun Station to contact them. This distance should be sufficient; hopefully, they could wait for her one more day or hadn’t ventured out of range of the signal base station. Otherwise, she would have to navigate through Antarctica's polar night at minus forty degrees, which was continuously getting colder. Considering the completely unrecognizable terrain combined with the polar night environment, Bai Yujing truly lacked confidence in being able to find her way out.
Bai Yujing put on his snowboard and immediately used the starry sky to find his direction. After traveling for a few hours, he arrived at the edge of a prehistoric lake, where a very conspicuous Ice Wall stood. A few ropes were still left hanging from the Ice Wall. Bai Yujing tested their sturdiness and then began to climb up.
The difficulty of climbing the Ice Wall was much simpler than that of the thousand-meter ice crevice. Imagining that ice crevice, with no foothold in front and nothing to lean against behind, along with the prehistoric lake beneath the Ice Surface, Bai Yujing took a breath from his oxygen tank and swam for over twenty minutes before surfacing. However, the water surface was only a few meters away from the Ice Surface, with some areas completely fitting together, forcing Bai Yujing to dive underwater.
Using Poseidonia's body as a landmark, Bai Yujing gradually found his way out. Several times he nearly suffocated, and considering the difficulty of it all, he couldn't help but admire himself for managing to climb out.
He easily stepped on the Ice Wall and climbed halfway up when he suddenly felt a tremor beneath his feet, followed by violent shaking. It felt as if the earth was rolling over. Bai Yujing quickly turned around to look at the distant Ice Surface, his gaze drawn in that direction. He guessed what was happening: Poseidonia had activated. This was also one of the concerns that had made Bai Yujing hurry to leave the prehistoric lake.
The Ice Surface began to crack, and then Bai Yujing saw a massive beam of light directly shatter the entire iceberg. The thick layer of ice, over a thousand meters thick, was instantly shattered. The tremendous force created vibrations that felt like the ground was flipping over. Bai Yujing felt the rope in his hand suddenly loosen, and he quickly drove his ice axe deep into the Ice Wall, using both hands to secure himself and stop his downward slide.
However, at that moment, a large amount of snow began to cascade down from above. Bai Yujing looked up and saw a white torrent rushing toward him like Mount Tai pressing down.
"MMP!"
Before Bai Yujing could finish his words, he was engulfed by the rushing avalanche. After a long while, when the avalanche finally stopped, he found himself in a depression about ten meters below where he had been standing. Shaking his head to clear it, he revealed his face.
At that moment, Bai Yujing felt as if the sky had suddenly brightened; it seemed like the sun was rising from afar, illuminating everything as if the polar night had passed. Looking toward the sun, he realized it wasn't what he thought it was.
Bai Yujing saw an enormous Spaceship flying out from beneath the ground. The entire ice layer of the prehistoric lake had shattered into pieces or fragments scattered across the snowy plain.
In the center of the plain appeared a massive dark pit from which the spaceship ascended. The three engines at the bottom of the spaceship were activated, shining brightly like three suns and illuminating the entire snowy plain.
Bai Yujing finally got a clear view of Poseidonia; it was a round crystal entirely blue and transparent but reflecting metallic light. It shimmered with brilliant colors, surrounded by a huge blue ring with numerous pipes connecting to a Sphere in its center. The entire aircraft resembled a gigantic planet covering the sky above.
Then Bai Yujing saw it slowly rotating, and with a violent thrust from the engine, it shot up into the sky like a meteor, breaking through the atmosphere and flying into outer space. The launch created a strong wind that swept across the entire plain, pressing Bai Yujing tightly against the Ice Wall.
Bai Yujing paid no attention to being squished against the Ice Wall, even feeling somewhat deflated. His eyes were completely absorbed by the spacecraft until it transformed into a streak of light, leaving behind no trace as darkness enveloped the land once more. Bai Yujing still hadn't withdrawn his gaze; what a spectacular scene it was—a spaceship that could accommodate millions, conquering the stars and seas, traversing the cosmic expanse. This was truly the ultimate dream and romantic sentiment for men.
Although Bai Yujing had already declined Zhu Wei's invitation, he couldn't deny that he felt a deep yearning for such an endeavor. However, letting go of everything to pursue this was something Bai Yujing couldn't do; at least not now, as he was unwilling to take that step.
"Sigh!"
Bai Yujing exhaled, his breath condensing into thick white mist in the air. He raised his ice shovel and slowly began to climb up the ice layer.
While Bai Yujing was struggling to climb the ice cliff, the entire world was in shock. A massive unidentified spacecraft had launched from Antarctica, breaking through the atmosphere and entering space. This scene was simultaneously observed by multiple countries, and all observers stared in astonishment as the spacecraft surged into space and began to accelerate continuously. In just a few hours, it had already approached half the speed of light and was still speeding up. At this rate, it would take just over a day to fly out of the Solar System.
Such speed was beyond human imagination—something to be gazed upon in awe. Various reports regarding this spacecraft quickly made their way into the hands of key officials!
