Hiding behind the haystack at the back of the carriage, Bai Yujing felt as if he were Liu Laolao entering Grand View Garden. Everyone gasped in amazement at how magnificent the city was, so vast that it seemed endless, with no visible top.
The ancient city walls were built from massive stones, each nearly twenty to thirty meters long and wide, stacked all the way up to the sky. The enormous city gates stood close to a thousand meters high, and within those gates, giants came and went endlessly—some driving carriages, others carrying burlap sacks, and some riding tall horses clad in armor.
"Is this Giant's City?" Emma exclaimed, her mouth agape. Since arriving here yesterday, it had felt somewhat surreal, as if they had stumbled into a fantastical realm.
Bai Yujing was more concerned about another issue: "Look at the sky; there’s no sun here!"
Bivis also noticed: "It's so strange. I saw it yesterday too—no moon and no stars, yet there is light. This daytime is even more bizarre; without a sun, where does the sunlight come from?"
Tall European-style buildings lined the streets. As the Donkey Cart passed by a box, Bai Yujing saw a woman on the third floor hanging clothes out of her window. The giant driving the Donkey Cart seemed very familiar with the area, taking shortcuts and side roads toward the marketplace.
Leaning against a massive Wheat Sack, everyone whispered among themselves. Bai Yujing was the first to voice his opinion: "We need to find a giant to help us; otherwise, we won’t be able to move an inch here!"
Shen Fei immediately replied, "How is that possible? A giant would help us? They would just eat us like beans or grab us like grasshoppers!"
Bivis agreed with Shen Fei: "I'm sorry, Bai; you’re right. But equal dialogue is based on equal power between both parties, and here we lack the ability to communicate with giants!"
Bai Yujing nodded: "Of course, directly talking to giants is a very risky and wrong approach. So I have another idea!"
"What idea?" Bivis asked, while Emma and Huckman looked at Bai Yujing, eager to hear his plan.
Bai Yujing shook his head: "I have a plan, but it needs to be developed after we select a giant. First, we must find a giant who is around their teenage years and holds some social status; then we can tailor our plan accordingly!"
"Why does it need social status?" Hank asked.
Bai Yujing explained: "Being young means they have less experience and are easier to deceive. Having some social status means they can read and write and provide us with sufficient information."
At that moment, the carriage stopped in a square because a freight truck ahead was blocking the road while unloading goods. Bai Yujing immediately spotted a church at the front of the square. After observing his surroundings, he quickly said, "Right here! We’ll get off here. Everyone be careful not to get spotted!"
Bai Yujing slid down the straw stalk with gloves on, choosing a landing spot at the corner of the street. He got off from the right side of the cart, as there were no cobblestones here, making it relatively safe to fall. The height of the cart was equivalent to six stories, so Bai Yujing was still a bit cautious while sliding down!
Next, Bivis, Huckman, and Hank quickly followed suit. However, by the time Emma and Shen Fei arrived, it seemed that the obstacles on the road ahead had been cleared. A giant cracked the whip at Donkey, and the cart began to move.
“Not good! You two hurry up and jump down!”
The wheels of the cart slowly turned. Bai Yujing immediately chased after it. Emma hung nervously on the straw stalk, saying, “No way, it’s too high! I’ll die if I fall!”
“Hurry up! We don’t have time! The gravity here is lighter; you’ll be fine! I’ll catch you below!” Bai Yujing kept urging as he ran ahead.
Shen Fei was also hanging above, crying out, “What should I do? Who will catch me?”
“...Don’t worry! This is the edge of the street; it seems like it rained before, so the ground is soft. You won’t die from falling!” Bai Yujing felt that his words didn’t seem very convincing!
“Ah!”
Emma shouted as she jumped down from above. Bai Yujing rushed forward, kneeling to slide over the soft mud and directly caught Emma in front of him. Emma patted her chest, relieved but still shaken.
“Thud!”
At that moment, a sound of something else falling came from nearby. Bai Yujing looked over and saw Shen Fei falling straight into the mud, covered in dirt.
At this point, the cart officially started moving, marking the end of Bai Yujing and his companions' ride. Bivis rushed over from behind and asked, “How’s it going? Is everyone okay?”
“Haha, look at you! You’re from the same country as Ian; how can there be such a big difference?”
Emma stood up from Bai Yujing's arms and said, “I’m fine!”
“I’m not fine!” Shen Fei climbed up from the mud, looking dirty and full of grievances. Hank immediately walked over and said, “Well, at least the ground here is soft; if you had fallen on cobblestones, you would have been turned into mush!”
Six people were hiding beside Flagstone Road. At that moment, vehicles were passing by continuously, the sounds of horses neighing, donkeys braying, and the hustle and bustle of shops unloading goods and vendors calling out mixed together, creating a lively atmosphere. It felt as if they had instantly returned to the Middle Ages.
Bivis looked at Bai Yujing. In this situation, he didn't know what to do. In fact, everyone was a bit flustered; only Bai Yujing and the incredibly carefree Will Hackman remained calm. However, Bivis didn't dare let the adventurous and thrill-seeking Huckman make the decisions. Instead, he chose the more reliable Bai Yujing, who was originally designated as the team leader.
Bai Yujing immediately said, "Do you see that? The church. Many of those passing by are families, and among them are likely many well-off families who have received an education. We can cross the road, get closer to the church and the square, identify a few targets, and then choose one to act on."
Emma quickly responded, "If we just walk over like that, it would be easy to get noticed, right?"
Bai Yujing looked around and soon spotted a small cloth bag that had been discarded at the entrance of a nearby shop. However, for giants like them, this bag was probably left behind during unloading and was large enough for Bai Yujing and the others to crawl into.
Bai Yujing used his dagger to cut a large hole in the bag and was the first to crawl inside. The others followed in order, all focused on the burlap sack as they set off from the wide corner of the street.
"Let's go!"
"Stop! A cart is coming through ahead!"
"Quickly retreat! Ten meters back! This is bad; we won't make it in time! Run forward with all your might!"
"Hey! Why are you pushing me?"
The spacious street was over ten meters wide with stone slabs. The group was huddled under a small burlap sack, looking like trash blown onto the ground by the wind; no one paid them any attention. Stumbling along and stopping intermittently, they finally crossed the street and reached the other side!
