"Those are dead people!"
When Zhong Qiang said this, everyone felt a shiver run down their spines. They no longer had any desire to go to Shanxia Town, nor did they want to return to the temple. Just moments ago, everyone had seen that those four dead people had come out of the temple.
Li Hao immediately whispered, "We just checked; there was nothing in that temple. How did those four people come out?"
Lao Qi was now terrified. "How the hell would I know? Qiangzi, you said there wouldn't be any danger this time. We were all prepared for this! What kind of nonsense is this? I think we won't be able to go back, we won't be able to go back!"

The group made their way to the other side of the slope into the woods, found a large rock to sit by, and started a fire. None of them could sleep; they all felt uneasy and at a loss, so they began to chat.
Bai Yujing asked first, "Were those four people from the group that entered the mountains earlier?"
Lao Qi glanced at Zhong Qiang and then nodded, "Yes, I recognize one of them. His name is Dama Zi. I didn't expect him to die here!"
Li Hao immediately said, "That's the one who just nodded at you!"
Lao Qi shivered all over, feeling scared at the thought. After realizing it, he shot a glare at Li Hao, "Don't talk nonsense!"
Bai Yujing quickly added, "So that means Lin Ruoqiao and the others must have been here too, and something happened to them. At least four people have died. This place really has issues. Fortunately, we just came out of the temple. If we had stayed inside, we might have ended up like those four!"
After Bai Yujing said this, everyone felt a wave of fear wash over them as they recalled the suddenly lit lights and the ghost that emerged from the temple. What exactly was hidden deep within? Bai Yujing then remembered the statue of Chisongzi he had seen in the temple and the inscriptions on the mud sculpture's sleeves. He shared this with everyone. Xu Lei looked at Bai Yujing and said, "You can even recognize Eastern Zhou bird seal script? Bai Yujing, you really are impressive!"
Bai Yujing nodded, "I often travel around the world and enjoy finding strange things, so I have a high requirement for recognizing characters. Most common scripts, I can recognize some of them!"
Li Hao immediately said, "Are you saying this place might really resemble Eastern Zhou? I remember Qiangzi mentioning before that the architectural style of this temple feels like it's from the Eastern Zhou period!"
Zhong Qiang pondered for a moment and said, "Lao Qi, I remember there was an ancient kingdom here long ago called the Ancient Mi Kingdom, right?"
Lao Qi thought for a moment, "Yes, I've heard old folks say that there used to be an Ancient Mi Kingdom here a long time ago. It seems it was named after discovering something unusual."
The Ancient Mi Kingdom was the oldest nation in this area. When the Eastern Zhou Son of Heaven divided the states, he granted the Chu State lands in Henan while this area was ruled by several smaller kingdoms. As the Chu State grew stronger over time, they advanced toward this region. The Ancient Mi Kingdom and its large population lived here relying on the richness and abundant resources of Shennongjia for survival; however, they ultimately fell victim to human calamity and were destroyed under the military might of Chu.
In this context, what Bai Yujing and the others saw was indeed a scene from Shennongjia during the Eastern Zhou period. Bai Yujing looked around; thousands of years ago, this place had such a vibrant scene—fields crisscrossed and bustling with people. This town shouldn't be considered small for the Ancient Mi Kingdom; this area should be its central region!
"If that's the case, then the following words can also be explained. The offering to the deity Chizongzi here is the temple built by the artisans of Ancient Mili Artisan Qiang, which belongs to the Ancient Mi Kingdom!" Bai Yujing immediately said.
Zhong Qiang frowned and asked, "According to your reasoning, if we continue forward, will we encounter towns from the Ancient Mi Kingdom?"
Bai Yujing nodded, "It's very likely. However, since we know that changes will occur after nightfall, we can prepare ourselves!"
Lao Qi then asked, "What we are seeing now, is it an illusion or real ghosts?"

The strange white mist in this mountain and the changes that occur after nightfall might be due to this mist preserving information about the spirits and existences from ancient times in some way, which is why such strange changes occur!"
What Bai Yujing said was somewhat complex, but everyone understood it to some extent, especially Li Hao, who had also witnessed the peculiar sights of Shuiyuan Village: "So you're saying they really exist?"

"Alright, everyone should rest early. I'll keep watch!" Zhong Qiang clapped his hands, and several people leaned against large stones and slowly fell asleep. With the fire burning and Zhong Qiang keeping watch nearby, everyone began to relax.
