Two figures slipped into the Village. At this moment, the Village was on high alert due to the recent disturbance caused by Bai Yujing and others. As these two shadows made their way deeper into the Stone Building, they encountered a Mountain Spirit carrying a boulder coming down the mountain path.
Upon seeing these two figures, especially the one leading, the Mountain Spirit's face changed dramatically with fear. It was about to let out a shriek when it caught sight of the deep green eyes glinting from beneath the hood of the lead figure. Instantly, its voice cut off, and its body began to float, making creaking sounds until it suddenly fell with a thud.
The figure in the black cloak paid no mind to this, but the petite figure behind it trembled in fear. The black cloak grabbed hold of its companion and dashed into the stones, leaping and darting up the mountain path.
At that moment, the wind blew open the cloak of the petite figure, revealing a panicked little face—it was Xu Lei, who had gotten separated from Bai Yujing earlier. Now she was firmly controlled by a Mountain Spirit and had been brought into its core territory.
Meanwhile, it seemed that the Mountain Spirits on the mountain had left this area again to patrol the main mountain range, searching for potential entrances to the Underworld and Kuaiwei Clan's sacred mountain during this time when the mist was thick.
At this point, there was no longer that feeling of numerous Mountain Spirits crowding the mountain path. The Mountain Spirits holding Bronze Lanterns had all departed for Shennongjia's core mountains to resume their futile prayer rituals.
After reaching the peak, the black cloak saw two Masked Mountain Spirits guarding up top. In one glance, it killed both of them instantly. Xu Lei knew how formidable these Masked Mountain Ghosts were, and witnessing this black cloak take them down so easily was shocking. This figure must have also been a Mountain Spirit that had lived for over a thousand years but had gradually degenerated into its current state after losing in a leadership contest and being unable to absorb human vitality.
Thinking of this, Xu Lei recalled how this figure looked at her with red eyes filled with greed when it captured her. Terrified, she immediately lowered her head and dared not move.
The black cloak held Xu Lei and made her kneel at the peak. It cut her two hands, and bright red blood flowed out, spreading along the markings on the ground.
Xu Lei chanted in a language similar to that of the Mountain Spirits as if performing some kind of ritual. Before them, half of a mountain that seemed to have mysteriously vanished began to show signs of fluctuation as if an unknown entrance was opening before their eyes.
Suddenly, a burst of fiery red light emanated from the entire mountain, while the mist that had pervaded Shennongjia day and night began to retract in an instant, gathering towards the summit of this mountain.
After obtaining the Bronze Lantern, Bai Yujing understood that mist existed at night as well. However, within the realm of mist, once night fell, it quickly descended into a void between illusion and reality where everything appeared illusory; even clouds and fog were invisible. Therefore, Bai Yujing's earlier thoughts about finding an exit when the mist cleared at night were indeed unrealistic.
At this moment, while Bai Yujing was sound asleep, he saw the Chi Mist continuously gathering, slowly being drawn from the edge of Shennongjia to the peak of the mountain, and then gradually disappearing, until the Chi Mist completely vanished.
At the same time, the red light at the mountain's summit surged to its peak, as if some kind of ritual had been completed. At that moment, at the foot of the mountain, inside the Suspended Tower, the Mountain Spirit Leader, that woman, seemed to sense something. With a flash, she immediately rushed out of the Suspended Tower and looked towards the mountaintop.
Watching the distant red light blooming and the opened entrance, the woman's previously indifferent and expressionless face turned fierce and terrifying. After a roar, she quickly took down a Bronze Lantern from the eaves of the Suspended Tower and chased up the mountain. However, halfway there, she saw the red light dissipate. Surrounding the lantern was a swirl of green flames that instantly engulfed her, causing her to disappear midway up the mountain.
Meanwhile, deep in the mountains, hundreds of Mountain Spirits holding Bronze Lanterns were conducting some kind of prayer ritual to find an entrance. At that moment, they suddenly froze. Centered around hundreds of Bronze Lanterns, blue-red flames leaped out instantly, forming a massive fire tongue that wrapped around everyone and made them vanish from their original spot.
The camp where Bai Yujing and others were also experienced a similar fate. The night was cold; having lost their tents and sleeping bags, everyone huddled closely together. The Bronze Lantern held by Li Hao also emitted similar flames at this time, consuming everyone present and making them disappear.
In the originally quiet black night forest, only the crackling bonfire remained burning, while those who had been keeping watch over it had vanished without a trace.
------------
The next day, just as dawn was approaching, Li Hao was awakened by a pressing need to urinate. He immediately opened his eyes and discovered that the sky was still pitch black with no hint of light.
Li Hao looked up at the sky: "How strange; there's not even a glimmer of light. Has the fire gone out?"
He immediately reached beside him and grabbed hold of the Bronze Lantern draped over his leg. As soon as he did so, he saw the flame ignite. Li Hao stood up with the lantern in hand but was startled to find that several people were leaning against a stone wall behind him. He distinctly remembered that they had been sleeping in a forest last night; what on earth was this place?
Li Hao raised the lantern to illuminate his surroundings and quickly realized that he was in what appeared to be a massive constructed passageway. The walls were bare; it was simply a corridor.
The movement Li Hao made while getting up and the flickering light in the darkness caught the attention of those lying on the ground. Bai Yujing was the first to wake up; he immediately opened his eyes and saw Li Hao standing in front of him, holding up the lantern and looking around.
"Li Hao, what are you doing?"
Li Hao immediately moved aside, no longer blocking Bai Yujing's line of sight. The faint light from the lantern illuminated the entire corridor, and Bai Yujing quickly realized that upon waking up, the world had changed!
Bai Yujing leaned against the wall to stand up and looked around. "What the hell? How is this possible? How did we suddenly end up in this place?"
Li Hao shook his head. "Who knows? I just woke up too. What kind of place is this?"
As Bai Yujing and Li Hao conversed, everyone else began to wake up. A Ling and Zhong Qiang were both terrified; anyone who suddenly found themselves in such a creepy place after waking up would be extremely frightened. Of course, Lin Ruoqiao, who feared nothing, was not included in this group.
Fortunately, everyone had hugged their backpacks while sleeping because they felt cold, so their belongings and supplies were still there. Bai Yujing took out a flashlight from his backpack and shone it towards both ends of the corridor, discovering that it was astonishingly long—at first glance, it seemed endless.
"Where on earth is this?" Everyone immediately thought of this question!
