“Reincarnated Spiritual Child?”
Bai Yujing initially did not react, but then thought about it. The life form of Yaoji was exactly like the legendary Reincarnated Spiritual Child. Therefore, this so-called Reincarnated Spiritual Child refers to someone who has consumed the Immortality Elixir. The so-called Shangri-La is an illusory space established to mimic the celestial palace, likely similar to the Underworld of Shennongjia.
What exactly does the VG Organization want? Bai Yujing found it hard to understand these people. However, the current goal was to find the Bai Wang Tomb, and he could not concern himself with anything else for now. Bai Yujing looked up at the cave walls above.
For the next three days, Bai Yujing accompanied Qian Jia and others as they explored all the caves around Bai Wang Mountain. Still, there were no significant discoveries. The caves here were very complex; out of more than two hundred known caves, Bai Hao had basically seen them all. However, there were many more located deep within the mountain. These caves extended along the continuous mountain range; some led underground, some were dead ends, and some connected to the Underground River.
Once you ventured deep inside, the complicated cave terrain could easily lead one astray. The vastness of these caves exceeded Bai Yujing's expectations, branching out in all directions. The fissures and caverns within the mountain could keep someone wandering for days without reaching an end. If one lost their way, they could end up completely trapped underground. This kind of cursed place truly felt like calling out to heaven would yield no response.
Although Bai Yujing was eager to explore further, upon seeing the situation, he realized that even if he wandered inside for months, he might not find the right location. If the Bai Wang Tomb was buried in such a place, it was no wonder that no one had ever discovered it.
Years ago, the Chenghua Emperor had sealed off the mountain for several years, probably in an attempt to locate the Bai Wang Tomb. However, it seemed he had used a futile method by continuously sending people in to explore. In such a cursed place, countless lives had been lost before finally locating the Bai Wang Tomb in such a complex underground area. Bai Hao could not use his method.
“Should we use a Drone to explore?” Qian Jia suggested.
Before Bai Yujing could show his disdain, Zhou Jun immediately replied, “The control and signal reception of a Drone have distance limitations. Once thrown in here, it probably won't get more than a few hundred meters before losing signal. This method definitely won't work!”
Bai Yujing asked, “Qian Jia, didn’t you say you were looking for records of those who explored Bai Wang Mountain back then and their descendants? How’s that going? Any results?”
Qian Jia responded, “Yesterday I mentioned that we had some leads. Let me ask again and see if we can find anyone!”
After making a phone call, Qian Jia said to Bai Yujing, “Xiaojin has already found someone. She went to Baiwangshan Town early this morning to meet with the local mayor and checked several prominent family genealogies in the area. There have already been some discoveries!”
Bai Yujing replied irritably, “Is that how you investigate? Even if you find descendants, what can be done? It’s been hundreds of years; at least ten generations have passed since those involved back then. What can you uncover?”
Qian Jia immediately pointed at Bai Yujing, saying, “Are you underestimating people? Those who were taken into the mountains back then were all craftsmen and various artisans or special individuals. These craftsmen passed down their skills from father to son and from son to grandson. Much information and documentation have been handed down this way—especially in this southwestern region where such traditions are even stronger. Come with me; I’m sure we’ll gain something!”
In an old house in Baiwangshan Town, marked for demolition, Bai Yujing saw the descendant of the person he wanted to meet—a balding old man who spoke with a strong Yibin Dialect. Bai Yujing could barely understand him, often having to guess at parts of the conversation.
"Xiaojin, is this person reliable?" Qian Jia Yi asked Xiaojin after seeing the man.
Xiaojin immediately replied, "His name is Wang Dekai. His ancestors were a prominent family in this area. I checked; during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, there was a general named Wang Quanyi who was stationed here. He is his ancestor. I asked him about it, and he seemed to know something, but when I pressed further, he refused to say more!"
Bai Yujing glanced at the old man, noticing how he arrogantly wore flip-flops and fidgeted. He understood what this man meant and sat down. "Old man, here’s five hundred dollars. Can you tell me what your ancestor did in the mountains back then?"
The old man glanced at the money on the table and coughed twice. "Do you see that character outside? Do you think I'm short on money?"
Bai Yujing was taken aback; this guy was a demolition resident and seemed to be a stubborn one demanding a hefty payoff. Such people were particularly difficult to deal with. "Then how much do you want?"
Wang Dekai chuckled, "You’re here looking for treasures, right? I know that even emperors came here searching for treasures back in the day. The things in those mountains must be worth a fortune; how much do you think they’re worth?"
Bai Yujing laughed heartily, "So we should give you a city then?"
Wang Dekai leered, "That’s not what I mean, but since you look like you’re willing to pay, it can’t be less!"
Bai Yujing immediately asked, "Do you know who we are?"
Wang Dekai looked at Bai Yujing and said, "Police? Gangsters? Let me tell you, my son has some strong connections here; you..."
"Qian Jia, show him your badge!"
"It doesn’t matter what badge you show; even if you're from the government, can you disregard the law? I haven’t done anything illegal!"
Bai Yujing placed his badge in front of Wang Dekai and his expression turned cold. "We are from the Special Investigations Unit, specifically investigating domestic terrorist organizations, spies, and large transnational crime syndicates. We have the authority to eliminate or arrest suspects without any orders. Now I ask you—will you speak or not?"
Wang Dekai's expression changed slightly: "You think you can scare me?"
Bai Yujing swiftly drew the gun from Qian Jia's waist, and Qian Jia immediately exclaimed, "What are you doing?"
Bai Yujing fixed a sharp gaze on Wang Dekai. He had killed before, and not just one or two people. He often moved through dangerous places, and even while walking down the street, he exuded an extremely fierce aura that most people dared not provoke. Staring at Wang Dekai like this made Wang Dekai feel his legs weaken.
However, this guy still looked like he was used to being a bully or taking advantage of others, stubbornly speaking to Bai Yujing with a raised voice, though it had a hint of bravado: "Try touching me, and I'll report you to the newspapers!"
"Three!"
Wang Dekai immediately glanced at the identification on the table, wondering if this guy was really from some special department with a license to kill.
"Two!"
"One!"
Bai Yujing quickly chambered a bullet and raised the gun. Wang Dekai suddenly knelt on the ground: "I’ll talk, Chief! I’ll tell you everything!"
Qian Jia also breathed a sigh of relief; she had genuinely feared that Bai Yujing might actually pull the trigger. Bai Yujing placed the gun on the table: "Be honest. If I find any part of your story untrue or lacking, I'll take you back for questioning. We won't just throw you in jail; once you're in there, it won't be ten days or half a month before you get out. Think carefully!"
"I understand, I understand! Ask me anything!" Wang Dekai now realized he had truly encountered someone formidable, and sweat poured down his body as he nodded incessantly like a chicken pecking at grain.
