Inside a cave, Bai Yujing opened a silver suitcase. After turning on the computer and launching a software program, he entered a password and control commands. He then watched as several drones inside the suitcase took off and flew out on their own.
Bai Yujing pressed his Bluetooth earpiece and asked, "Li Hao, is this how it's used?"
On the other end of the line, Li Hao immediately replied, "That's right. Just let the exploration drones fly out. They will autonomously explore the surrounding terrain and record data. Just wait for them to return. If you try it a few more times, you can map out the underground cave system you mentioned, including how many caves there are, what the underground passages look like, and the overall terrain."
Bai Yujing initially called Li Hao to see if he had any solutions for this type of terrain. He didn't expect that Li Hao would send him a set of these advanced terrain detection drones.
"You're just not well-informed. You should keep up with the news; these terrain detection robots have been around for a while. They don't require human control; they emit infrared rays to gather information about the surrounding caves and terrain. They can even operate in complex underground environments and will automatically return within half an hour."

Bai Yujing wasn't completely clueless. After listening to Li Hao's explanation, he glanced at the manual and quickly understood how to use the device. Qian Jia immediately pulled out the map from his backpack. Bai Yujing examined it carefully and then checked the direction with a compass. "Hmm, the largest underground river is over here. According to this underground cave network map, we should enter through this cave at a depth of one thousand meters underground. This underground river is really deep!"
Bai Yujing pointed to an entrance of a cave in the lower left corner and said to Qian Jia and Zhou Jun. Qian Jia, carrying his backpack, quickly responded, "Alright, let's hurry up!"
Bai Yujing immediately stopped Qian Jia. "No, just Zhou Jun and I will go in. You and Xiaojin stay outside and wait for us. The complexity of this underground network and caves at a depth of one thousand meters means we don't know how long it will take us to get through. It probably won't be just a day or two before we can climb back out, not to mention we still have to navigate through the underground river to find Bai Wang Tomb. Don't complicate things for us!"
Xiaojin kept nodding, looking at the dark, damp cave below. It was gloomy and humid; who knew what was inside? Entering such a place felt almost like risking her life.
Qian Jia thought for a moment. She indeed had no experience with polar survival. The dangers of underground caves could be even more extreme than many polar environments. Going down would not help Bai Yujing at all; it would only create more chaos.
Qian Jia nodded, "Alright, we'll wait for you outside. You must come back!"
Bai Yujing nodded, sat down, and after transferring the underground cave's topographic map from the computer to her phone, packed up the silver box. She said to Zhou Jun, "Check the equipment; we are getting ready to go down!"
Qian Jia watched as the two of them strapped on heavy backpacks and donned their tactical jackets, preparing to delve into the cave. She worriedly said, "Will two handguns be enough? You mentioned there might be dangers inside. Shouldn't we wait a bit longer and bring more people along?"
Bai Yujing shook her head, "Enough worrying. I not only brought handguns but also other preparations. Then Bai Yujing, along with Zhou Jun, turned on the searchlights on their helmets and resolutely walked down into the dark cave. As their footsteps and the sound of dripping water echoed, the light gradually faded away into the depths of the large cave.
The cave sloped downward; the stones underfoot felt like a set of stairs—uneven and very smooth. Walking on them gave a constant sense of potential slipping and falling, which made Bai Yujing and Zhou Jun tread very carefully.
The underground cave was pitch black with no light at all. The sound of dripping water echoed throughout the cave like a light rain, amplified by the silence and reverberation within. Each drop felt as if it were striking at their hearts, creating ripples deep within.
These caves had formed over countless years, with stalactites and oddly shaped rocks standing tall within them. Additionally, underground fissures and river diversions created various passages that interconnected these caves.
After passing through two or three caverns, Bai Yujing noticed that the cave below became smaller. Although the path seemed relatively gentle, these caves continuously sloped downward. Bai Yujing and Zhou Jun continued to navigate through these caves and small passages, descending for about three or four hours until they spotted a fissure leading straight down into the depths below.
Every so often, Bai Yujing would pull out the underground cave network map and geological Water Vein Map to check her position. She also left markers along the way to avoid getting lost in such an underground labyrinth.
Bai Yujing had previously avoided many detours in Shennongjia by using this method. In the midst of the dense fog, it was easy to get lost and go in circles. With these markers, even if one took a wrong turn, it would be easy to find the way back and not remain stuck in one place.
However, upon reaching the fissure in the ground, Bai Yujing stopped. After deploying the terrain detection drone earlier, they had only explored up to this point. Bai Yujing could only deploy the terrain detection drone again to see what was happening below.
After opening the silver-white portable case, Zhou Jun also shone his flashlight into the underground cave below and immediately noticed something. He shouted to Bai Yujing, "Bai Yujing, come take a look! It seems like there's something down there!"
Bai Yujing quickly set aside his work and walked over, taking the flashlight from Zhou Jun's hand. "What is it?"
When Bai Yujing shone the light downwards, he saw that the underground fissure appeared to have signs of human activity. There were wooden supports reinforcing the structure, indicating that this fissure had likely been artificially widened at some point.
