Gao Tianqi immediately called Wan Haozhou.
“Vice President Wan, why hasn’t your team taken action? Our people just called and said Jiang Jun has already rescued his girlfriend!”
“What? Jiang Jun has gone to Xiaoshan Park and saved Lin Jingzhu? Mr. Gao, didn’t you say Jiang Jun wouldn’t arrive at the entrance of Xiaoshan Park for at least another hour? It’s barely been twenty minutes since then! Did my people really get there that quickly?”
“Uh…” Gao Tianqi was at a loss. He didn’t understand how Jiang Jun could have arrived so fast. During his conversation with Wan Haozhou, he had inadvertently learned that the other party wanted to eliminate Jiang Jun, and they had conspired together on the plan for tonight’s operation.
The operation plan consisted of two steps. The first step was to lure the snake out of its hole, which Gao Tianqi was responsible for—calling Jiang Jun to the designated location. The second step was a two-pronged approach, which Wan Haozhou would execute.
Wan Haozhou’s so-called two-pronged approach involved sending out two cars to simultaneously crash into Jiang Jun from different directions. This way, he wouldn’t be able to escape; however, both cars would sustain damage. If Jiang Jun managed to dodge them, the two drivers would then attack him, injuring him and running him over to stage a car accident.
The two drivers couldn’t be ordinary people; they were to be the Wan family’s bodyguards, Rong and Bing. Rong and Bing were unaware that their target that night was Jiang Jun; Wan Haozhou had only told them it was a business rival. So even if they were lying in wait at the park entrance and saw that the target was Jiang Jun, they might hesitate to carry out the second step.
The first step of the plan went smoothly. However, before the second step could be properly deployed, the entire operation fell apart.
“Forget it; let’s find another time to sort this out!” Wan Haozhou hung up the phone. He was currently on his way to Xiaoshan Park. “Turn around and notify the two cars behind us that the operation is canceled!” The fish had already escaped; why cast the net again?
At that moment, Gao Tianqi was at the hospital visiting his son. After hanging up, he sat by the hospital bed with a furrowed brow.
“Dad, you shouldn’t be trying to harm Jiang Jun; he’s not our enemy. We can’t afford to provoke him!” Gao Wenbin heard his father’s phone call and felt worried for him, then recounted what had happened at Leisure Bar last time.
“What should we do?” Gao Tianqi felt that things had gotten serious; he had previously underestimated Jiang Jun’s strength. This little scheme might have backfired on him.
“Dad, I think there’s only one way out: we need to surrender! After all, nothing serious happened this time. I suggest you go apologize to Jiang Jun before he retaliates,” Gao Wenbin advised his father.
After listening, Gao Tianqi fell silent for a moment before nodding.
“Son, you’re right. You’ve matured a lot since before! I don’t care about my pride anymore; I’ll go apologize to Jiang Jun tomorrow.”
The next morning, Jiang Jun arrived first at his Jiahua Clothing Company office, preparing to confront Gao Tianqi on the thirteenth floor about last night’s events.
Unexpectedly, Gao Tianqi arrived first himself—he even brought two bottles of high-end liquor.
“Director Jiang, about last night’s incident, it was my fault for being confused; of course, there were misunderstandings involved!”
“What misunderstandings?”
Gao Tianqi recounted what had happened and concluded by hoping that Jiang Jun could forgive him.
Jiang Jun was quite surprised by Gao Tianqi's willingness to come and apologize. He had originally planned to visit their company and have their general manager dismiss Gao Tianqi from his position as Vice President as punishment for using company security in what amounted to a kidnapping attempt—removal from office would have been the lightest penalty possible.
Now that Gao Tianqi knows he is not his enemy and has admitted his mistake regarding last night's events, and since last night's actions were not solely planned by him, Jiang Jun can no longer proceed as originally intended.
Letting him go like this does not sit well with Jiang Jun. After thinking for a while, he came up with an idea.
"Mr. Gao, do you think two bottles of wine can just brush me off? Tell me why Wan Haozhou invited you to dinner that night."
"Well..." Gao Tianqi felt a tightness in his chest; this was tricky! The matters discussed between them that day were not something he could casually disclose. Today, he was putting on this old face to protect his position as Vice President and to implement the plan they had discussed that night.
"It was just catching up!" Gao Tianqi tried to sound relaxed to avoid revealing that he was lying.
Jiang Jun let out a cold laugh: "Wan Haozhou is from Jiangnan Province; what history do you have with him? If Mr. Gao thinks he can dismiss me with such words, he might as well take those two bottles of wine back!"
Cunning! Despite his young age, this kid has a sharp perspective and is quite shrewd! No wonder he came over to toast that night; he probably guessed that Vice President Wan had other motives for coming over to deliberately get to know me. I bet even if I hadn't approached him, he would have come to me. Last night's incident just gave him the opportunity.
What to do? Gao Tianqi pondered.
"Director Jiang, Vice President Wan did have some business with me that night. However, it has nothing to do with you, so I won't discuss it!"
"No way! Whether it has anything to do with me is for me to decide, not you! If you don't want to talk about it, then I'll just assume you never came here! If you say something wrong, the problem will only get worse!"
Gao Tianqi regretted not anticipating that he would ask about this before coming here. If he had known, he could have prepared a story in advance! Now making one up on the spot might be too late; his skills in this area are insufficient, and if he reveals any flaws, all his efforts will be in vain.
Gao Tianqi decided to tell the truth and deal with the situation at hand first. So he explained the intentions behind Wan Haozhou's visit that night.
Wan Haozhou's visit was arranged by Wan Haoyu, the head of the Wan's Group, and was related to the acquisition of Fortune Clothing Company. Wan Haozhou offered Gao Tianqi a large sum of money to harm the general manager of Fortune Clothing Company. Then Gao Tianqi would take control and sell Fortune Clothing Company at a low price to the Wan's Group.
Damn! Isn't this the same tactic the Wan's Group used against Dongsheng Company?
"Did you agree to the Wan's Group? How do you plan to carry it out?"
"I... I was forced into agreeing. If I didn't agree, they said they had various ways to make me disappear from this world! They gave me a pill and said to find an opportunity to slip it into the general manager's drink; after drinking it, he would suffer a heart attack and die! The autopsy wouldn't reveal any issues!"
"Despicable!" Jiang Jun slammed the table in anger as memories of his father flooded back! "When are you planning to carry it out?"
