Guang'an Palace
The night was deep, and the palace was illuminated with lights, making each hall as bright as day. However, beneath this magnificent backdrop often lay many untold stories.
Consort Qian leaned alone against a pillar in the palace, staring blankly at the palace gate. Ever since Mu Junqi entered the palace, Mo Xiao Li rarely came to Guang'an Palace. She could not remember when she had started waiting by the gate every night for that person's figure, but what she received instead was disappointment time and again.
Thinking of this made her squint her eyes in anger, gritting her teeth as she turned to Pear and coldly asked, “Where is the Emperor staying tonight?”
Pear lowered her head awkwardly, hesitating on how to respond. Consort Qian already understood, “How is that matter progressing?”
“It has been handled according to your instructions; it should be ready soon,” Pear replied nervously.
Upon hearing this, Consort Qian let out a sinister laugh before turning to walk inside, reminding Pear to expedite that matter.
That day, Mo Xiao Li was in Yun Jin Palace gathering ministers to discuss state affairs when he suddenly heard a sound of crying from outside. Frowning, he called for Li Fusheng, “What is happening outside?”
“Your Majesty, the maid Mur by the Empress says there is something urgent to report,” Li Fusheng answered with a trembling voice.
“Bring her in.”
As soon as Mur entered, she knelt on the ground. Her face was filled with tears as she cried out, “Please, Your Majesty, save the Empress! She is about to perish!” After saying this, she collapsed onto the ground in tears.
Mo Xiao Li, initially angry as he looked at her, immediately stood up upon hearing her words and shouted, “What exactly happened?”
"Since that day Return to the Palace, the Empress has started to have a fever and developed many small red spots all over her body. I wanted to summon the Imperial Physician, but the Empress kept stopping me, so... so..."
After speaking, Mo Xiao Li coldly looked at Li Fusheng beside her and said, "What are you waiting for? Hurry up and call the Imperial Physician!" After finishing her words, she strode past the low table and walked out. As soon as she exited Yun Jin Palace, she used her energy to fly towards Jingxian Palace.
Upon entering Jingxian Palace, she saw a group of people surrounding Mu Junqi. The person lying on the bed looked weak, with a pale face devoid of any color. Her once rosy lips were now deathly pale, and her already thin face looked even more unbearable.
Seeing her arrive, everyone quickly knelt down, but it seemed like she didn't notice them. She took a few big steps and sat beside her, softly saying, "Mu Junqi, I command you to wake up right now!"
However, the person on the bed remained unresponsive. She reached out to touch her forehead, which was burning hot. From her neck, faint impressions and numerous small red spots could be seen. Turning around, she shouted at the people behind her, "Why hasn't the Imperial Physician arrived yet?"
After saying this, Zhang Deli ran out. After quite a while, the people from the Imperial Medical Department hurriedly arrived. Before they could speak, they were interrupted and quickly went up to check Ziyue's pulse with help from others. However, after a long time, there was still no response; beads of sweat appeared on their foreheads.
Seeing this, Mo Xiao Li immediately shouted, "Have you found out anything or not?"
The group was so frightened that they knelt down on the ground. Li Taiyi trembled as he said, "Replying to Your Majesty, the Empress has caught a chill which has led to both Qi and blood deficiency, causing her to fall into a coma. However, we... we really cannot determine what these small red spots are; we hope Your Majesty will forgive us." After speaking, they all knelt down on the ground, trembling as they awaited Mo Xiao Li's judgment.
But after a long time without hearing him speak and not daring to look up, finally Mo Xiao Li coldly said, "Then who else can examine her besides you?"
"This... this..." The group exchanged glances, unsure how to respond. Seeing this, Li Fusheng warned them, "If you don't hurry up and speak, if you waste any more time for the Empress, none of you will survive!"
"It may only be Right Court Judge Xia Ziqian Lord Xia who can examine her; it's just that he is currently..."
Upon hearing this, Mo Xiao Li closed her eyes as if deep in thought. Suddenly she said to Li Fusheng, "Issue an imperial decree: release Xia Ziqian without charge and have him rush to Jingxian Palace immediately."
Mur took a deep breath, but no one knew the mixed feelings in Mo Xiao Li's heart at that moment. Staring intently at Mu Junqi, he thought to himself: If this is your goal, then I have lost.
An hour later, Xia Ziqian appeared before everyone. Despite being locked up for five or six days, he still looked impeccably tidy and elegant, dressed in a flowing white robe that exuded an unreal beauty.
Because Mu Junqi's life and death were uncertain, despite harboring some resentment towards him, Mo Xiao Li allowed him to examine her directly. Before long, he stood up respectfully and said to Mo Xiao Li: "Your Majesty, rest assured. The small red spots on her body are merely due to previous breathing difficulties that caused blood clots. A few doses of medicine will suffice. As for the fever, as the previous gentlemen mentioned, it is due to a cold. A few days of rest will resolve it." After speaking, he bowed slightly.
However, Mo Xiao Li continued to gaze at him with cold eyes. Just then, Mu Junqi suddenly began to mumble incoherently, and Mo Xiao Li immediately sat beside her and leaned down to listen closely to her words, but suddenly his expression changed.
He stood up in anger and said, "Everyone leave! Xia Ziqian, I command you to handle everything from gathering the medicine to brewing it all by yourself. If anything goes wrong, I will hold you accountable!" After saying this, he sat down on a nearby stool.
Xia Ziqian simply bowed respectfully and replied, "I obey your command," before slowly retreating.
Once only the two of them were left in the room, Mo Xiao Li stood up again and sat beside Mu Junqi. He reached out to wipe the sweat from her forehead and said gloomily, "Why? Why can't you accept me in your heart? Why do you keep thinking about him?" With a cold laugh, he continued, "Perhaps we were a mistake from the start. But since you have become mine, I hope that whether you are dreaming or whatever else, you can only think of me."
After speaking, he felt somewhat foolish looking at her sleeping face. His chest was filled with intense anger. He let out a cold laugh and continued wiping the sweat from her forehead. Yet no matter how angry he was, his touch remained gentle.
Looking at her flushed cheeks due to the fever and the clear fingerprints on her neck, he felt a pang of compassion and couldn't help but think: If I hadn't stubbornly locked up Xia Ziqian, none of this would have happened. I wouldn't be feeling this heartache now or realize how much that person meant to her. Perhaps it has always been a mistake from the beginning.
