Palace Exterior
In a secluded residence, a handsome man knelt there and respectfully said, "Sire, everything has been completed as per your request. What should we do next?"
The man who had been sitting above smiled wickedly upon hearing this. Holding a folding fan, he gently waved it and walked to the window before leisurely saying, "Mo Xiao Li, our game is finally about to begin."
Meanwhile, in Jingxian Palace, when Mo Xiao Li heard Mu Junqi's advice, she kept thinking about her earlier words. Initially believing it to be a trivial matter, she never expected that there would be so many complications involved. Perhaps this matter was indeed not as simple as it appeared; she should have anticipated this when he suddenly visited.
"Then according to the Empress, what is the purpose of Nanyang's visit here?" she asked Mu Junqi with confusion.
"The Consort is merely a woman; how could she know the purpose of the Wise King's visit? However, the Consort must remind the Emperor that there are too many people in the harem who want my life. If anything happens in the future, I hope the Emperor will not blame the Consort," she said softly, nodding at him afterward.
Mo Xiao Li did not expect him to say such things to her. Feeling slightly angry but then recalling that she had just awakened and that this incident might only be the beginning, she said in a deep voice, "If such things happen again in the future, I will not spare her first."
At that moment, the sound of palace maids greeting outside was heard, and soon after, the Empress Dowager entered amidst a crowd. She walked straight to the bedside, and Mo Xiao Li stood up and bowed to her, saying, "Empress Dowager, why have you come so early?"
The Empress Dowager took Mu Junqi's hand and said, "I heard early this morning that the Empress has awakened; how could I sit still?" She then looked at Mu Junqi and asked, "How are you feeling? Is there anywhere uncomfortable?"
"Empress Dowager, rest assured. The Consort is fine now. Thank you for your concern," she replied softly.
"That's good, that's good."
At that moment, Li Fusheng walked in with his head lowered. After greeting everyone respectfully, he said, "Your Majesty, it is time for morning court; please proceed to Yun Jin Palace."
Mo Xiao Li furrowed his brows as he looked at Mu Junqi. Taking a deep breath, he said to the Empress Dowager, "I take my leave," and then departed.
Until Mo Xiao Li left, the Empress Dowager was still enthusiastically holding her hand and discussing things to pay attention to during pregnancy. Mu Junqi simply smiled and accepted it, but her mind was in a chaotic state, constantly thinking about Yin Fuzai.
At noon, the sun felt drowsy on her skin, and the room was like a steamer. Even though Mo Xiao Li had instructed the Internal Affairs Office to bring several ice basins, it was still uncomfortably hot. Her inner clothes were soaked with sweat, sticking to her body and making her feel extremely uncomfortable.
Ziyue had already recovered a lot and could no longer lie down, so after having lunch, she came to Jingxian Palace. As soon as she entered, she saw Mu Junqi resting with her eyes closed on the soft couch by the window. A palace maid was fanning her gently, but one could vaguely see the sweat beading on her forehead.
Gently walking over, Ziyue took one of the fans from the maid's hand, knelt beside her, and fanned her. Seeing the Empress again reminded her of that day's events; if she had been a bit more careful then, such things wouldn't have happened. Fortunately, her master was blessed and fortunate; otherwise, she would have felt guilty for life.
"Since you are here, why don't you say a word?" Mu Junqi suddenly spoke up with her eyes still closed.
Ziyue immediately lowered her head and knelt on the ground to greet her: "Your Majesty, may you be blessed."
Mu Junqi slowly sat up and looked at Ziyue, saying: "Get up. How are you feeling?"
Upon hearing this, Ziyue's eyes filled with tears as she said excitedly: "Thank you, Your Majesty. It's all my fault for not taking good care of you."
"This matter is not your fault. Quickly get up," she said softly.
As soon as she finished speaking, a woman's voice came from outside the door: "Indeed, there is a deep bond between master and servant." Everyone looked up to see Consort Qian in a pink palace dress and Consort Xi in a blue-pink outfit. Both were elegantly dressed and stood outside the door surrounded by palace maids and eunuchs.
When Mu Junqi saw them, she only smiled lightly and then said with slight annoyance: "What are these servants doing? How come when my two sisters arrived, no one reported it?"
The two of them walked in smiling and slightly bowed to her. Consort Xi stepped forward and said apologetically: "Empress, seeing that you are well puts Consort at ease."
"Yes, the Empress is under the protection of good fortune; this time, she truly escaped a great disaster," Consort Qian immediately responded.
Mu Junqi remained unfazed, looking at them with amusement. Then she lightly parted her lips and said, "Sisters, aren't you afraid of the sun outside at this midday? Coming to see This Palace makes me very happy; please take a seat."
After sitting down, Consort Qian spoke up, "Your Majesty, I heard that Lord Xia has been reassigned back to the Imperial Medical Department. Consort must thank you."
"This is the Emperor's decision and has nothing to do with This Palace. Besides, if anyone should be thanked, it shouldn't be you coming here to do so; it might lead others to think there’s something between you and Lord Xia," Mu Junqi said without changing her expression. After speaking, she picked up a handkerchief to cover her mouth and lightly laughed.
Consort Qian did not expect Mu Junqi to be so unyielding, and her face turned somewhat ugly. She sat silently beside them, no longer speaking.
Consort Xi then spoke up again, "Your Majesty, hearing that the prince is safe and sound has finally put Consort's mind at ease."
"This Palace hasn't asked you yet; why did you want to give up on yourself that day?"
At the sudden question, Consort Xi picked up her handkerchief to conceal her embarrassment and then said sorrowfully, "What the Empress does not know is that everyone in the harem says Consort only entered the palace because of the Empress Dowager, so I wanted to end it all. After all, the Empress Dowager has always been a person of reason; Consort cannot let her be criticized for this." As she spoke, she wiped away the tears from her eyes with the handkerchief.
Mu Junqi sighed softly and walked in front of Consort Xi. She held her hand gently and said, "Sister Consort Xi, there are many people gossiping behind your back; don't take it to heart. We both know what kind of person the Empress Dowager is. If there are any more such people, just tell This Palace; there are still rules in this harem."
Consort Xi immediately became tearful with gratitude and pretended to kneel in thanks but was stopped by Mu Junqi. She then looked toward Consort Qian and asked, "Then may I ask what brings Sister Consort Qian here this time?"
Consort Qian smiled sarcastically and said, "Seeing you two so affectionate makes Consort feel quite moved."
