Xiaoyaozi betrayed Dark River, just as Ziyu betrayed his organization, and the outcome was predictable: Xiaoyaozi was hunted down.
As the former top assassin of Dark River, Xiaoyaozi knew many secrets about the organization. Dark River would not allow such an unstable element to exist, so Xiaoyaozi was doomed to die!
After his betrayal, there were still people who could find him. Xiaoyaozi welcomed this because it allowed him to continue his assassination business, even though Dark River was furious internally.
Five years ago, Xiaoyaozi received a job to assassinate the Wudang Sect Leader but failed; this top assassin had missed his target.
At that time, Xiaoyaozi was injured while fleeing and encountered an old enemy at an inn in the State of Chu, worsening his injuries. He ultimately died in a fire caused by a Sulfur Bomb.
This was well-known; it caused a small stir in the State of Chu, and many powerful individuals breathed a sigh of relief.
Assassins inevitably make many enemies, so they must be cautious. Powerful people also accumulate numerous enemies and need to be careful. Assassins must guard against the relatives and friends of those they have killed, while powerful individuals must be wary of assassins.
Five years ago, Killer Xiaoyaozi encountered an old enemy and unexpectedly appeared here... and Wang Yuanwai also faced an assassin, a major killer!
"Heh heh... this is the State of Chu... the royal palace of Chu... do you remember what happened five years ago?" Xiaoyaozi smiled. "I know that the person who fought with me at the inn has nothing to do with you."
Wang Yuanwai seemed to relax a bit.
"But!" Xiaoyaozi's tone became sharp and then turned somewhat angry. "The disciple from Fire God Sect who threw the Sulfur Bomb is one of your Royal Family members, right..."
Wang Yuanwai suddenly collapsed to the ground, clearly nervous as he tried to mask his panic.
"I don't need to know why you did this; I only need to know that if I kill you and all of you, I can find peace."
Seeing Wang Yuanwai's distress, Xiaoyaozi sneered and thrust out a sword.
It was just one sword strike, seemingly straightforward. Wang Yuanwai tried to dodge but failed; no excess blood spilled from his throat as he fell dead instantly.
Xiaoyaozi took out a piece of cloth and wiped the blood from the blade. The once snow-white cloth was immediately stained red.
Xiaoyaozi threw the cloth, and while it was still in mid-air, Xiaoyaozi instantly drew the sword. By the time he sheathed it, the cloth had already turned to dust.
"Such a fast sword!" Xiong Zhi was secretly astonished.
Xiaoyaozi looked at Xiong Zhi, who couldn't help but shiver slightly.
"As a killer, you must take care of your sword," Xiaoyaozi said with a half-smile. "You are a servant, aren't you? Do you need me to take your life? You should know that killers do not expose their whereabouts."
"Are you going to kill me?" Xiong Zhi felt a stir in his heart.
"Xiaoyaozi senior, please accept me as your disciple," Xiong Zhi initially knelt towards where Wang Yuanwai had been but quickly turned around.
"Do you know how to become a killer?" Xiaoyaozi looked at Xiong Zhi, who was kneeling below.
"Please enlighten me, senior!" Xiong Zhi replied.
"Alright, I think you are indeed worthy of being my disciple. You are the first among those I want to kill to say this... Call me master!"
Before Xiong Zhi could respond, Xiaoyaozi continued, "To become a killer, a strong person must never admit defeat; their heart must be as sharp as a sword! A significant manifestation of a strong heart is... never kneeling to anyone!"
Upon hearing this, Xiong Zhi immediately tried to stand up, but Xiaoyaozi swiftly stepped in front of him and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"I want to get up..." Xiong Zhi struggled against the pressure of that hand and slowly rose. He couldn't understand how Xiaoyaozi had such great strength.
"Huff huff..." Xiong Zhi was tired; he remained in a half-squat position and still couldn't fully stand up.
"Heh heh..." Xiong Zhi lowered his head, looking at his feet and then at Xiaoyaozi's feet. "Master, I won't give up; you can rest assured."
Xiaoyaozi looked down at Xiong Zhi, who raised his head to meet Xiaoyaozi's gaze.
"Come with me," Xiaoyaozi said, releasing his hand slowly.
Xiaoyaozi turned around, ready to leave, not knowing where he was going.
"Master, I... I want to know how to become strong," Xiong Zhi asked.
Xiaoyaozi had not yet walked out of the palace gate when he turned his head.
"Strong? Good question..." Xiaoyaozi turned to one side of the hall, where a sword was placed.
Xiaoyaozi picked up the sword and then discarded the sheath.
"With this sword, stab at the sun two hundred thousand times!"
"Huh? Stab the sun? Is that all you have to tell me, Master? And why don't you give me the sheath?" Xiong Zhi asked in confusion.
"You don't need to know why; you just need to practice. Stab at the sun two hundred thousand times! As for the sheath, that thing will only hinder your fighting. Throw it away; it will save you the motion of drawing the sword, and the sword will be faster."
Xiong Zhi nodded thoughtfully but then asked, "Then Master, why do you still keep your sheath?"
Suddenly, Xiaoyaozi drew his sword with a sound of sword chant, the tip resting against Xiong Zhi's forehead.
"My sword is far faster than you can imagine," Xiaoyaozi said calmly before retracting his sword.
Xiong Zhi actually disliked Xiaoyaozi a bit because he was too soft and even somewhat feminine. Moreover, Xiaoyaozi was somewhat arrogant.
The only thing Xiong Zhi admired was what Xiaoyaozi said: a strong person would never kneel to anyone.
Xiong Zhi understood that he had to follow Xiaoyaozi now; otherwise, even if he survived, he would probably live as a slave for life... What was there to talk about being strong? What was there to talk about going back?
"Master, where are we going?" Xiong Zhi asked.
"Out of the city, outside the city. I have a thatched cottage where we will stay," Xiaoyaozi replied. "Right now, you just need to practice your swordsmanship; leave everything else to me."
Xiong Zhi nodded. Of course, Xiong Zhi understood that what Xiaoyaozi meant was to avoid causing trouble and focus solely on the sword. What else would he leave to Xiaoyaozi? Would this master really do his laundry and cook for him?
Xiong Zhi and Xiaoyaozi arrived at the mountainside, where there was a wooden house.
"It has a bit of the feel of a reclusive master... but where will I stay?" Xiong Zhi thought to himself. The wooden house in front of him was quite simple, with only one room.
"We will build another one," Xiaoyaozi seemed to know what Xiong Zhi was thinking.
Xiaoyaozi walked into the woods, drew his sword, and with a flash of silver light, a large tree came crashing down.
"So fast... so strong..." Xiong Zhi couldn't help but feel admiration as he watched the scene unfold.
"By the way, Master said that if I practice 'Thrusting Towards the Sun' to its extreme, it will produce some kind of sword energy. I wonder if that's true," Xiong Zhi thought as he looked at Xiaoyaozi.
Sword energy exists here, but for someone like Xiong Zhi, who believes in science, it was still somewhat hard to accept.
"Maybe it really does exist..." Xiong Zhi pondered.
