Li Yunyang was afraid of a trap, so after a careful and detailed investigation, he found that the Shape-shifting Monster had indeed disappeared into the forest.
“Not good!” Li Yunyang shouted suddenly, remembering Xiang Xueer. He quickly turned and ran back in the direction he had come from. Damn it, he was too far away and had no idea how she was doing.
‘Bang!’ A gunshot rang out in the forest. Xiang Xueer stepped on the already slain Hellhound, looked at her torn sleeve from the beast's claws, and put away her AK47. “Hmph! You thought you could ambush me? You're still too inexperienced!”
The dead beast had lunged at her just moments ago. Xiang Xueer kicked it in the belly and decisively shot it down with her gun. The process was quick and smooth; aside from the torn sleeve, she had not sustained any injuries.
At the same time, Lan Ran Qingtian, who had followed closely behind Li Yunyang into the forest, encountered trouble as well. Just after entering, he was blocked by a group of Demon.
The Green Tree Demon was the lowest rank and most common type of Little Demon in the forest. Its round body resembled small balls, making gurgling sounds as they moved. Inside these green spheres were all green professions. Although they lacked offensive power, their sheer numbers were astonishing, densely occupying the entire forest and proving to be exceptionally troublesome.
Qingtian had just heard gunfire from nearby in the forest and figured it must be either Li Yunyang or Xiang Xueer. He looked up and surveyed the area; getting past this many demons would not be easy.
Taking a deep breath, he summoned a gust of Azure Wind beneath his feet. ‘Clap! Clap!’ He swiftly danced through the air, his body horizontal in midair. With the power of the trees propelling him forward like a gale, his movements were light as if gliding over water.
The Green Tree Demon was exceptionally difficult to deal with. One by one, their round bodies bounced up as if they were rubber balls, quickly leaving the ground and charging through the forest, surrounding Qingtian and obstructing his path.
‘Whoosh!’ Blue Dye moved like a swallow in flight, effortlessly lifting a leg, bending down, and performing a graceful turn to dodge the overwhelming number of Little Demon creatures while rapidly advancing forward.
Just as he was about to break free from the encirclement, all the flying Little Demon creatures began to emit ‘gugugu’ sounds. Their round and cute bodies started to swell violently. Lan Ran Qingtian couldn’t help but feel alarmed and shouted, “Not good!”
But it was already too late; one by one, their bodies burst open, spraying green liquid everywhere—on the ground, on tree trunks, and all around—soaking everything with the thick juice contained within the bodies of the Little Demon.
Qingtian quickly dodged. However, there were too many of them, and a small amount of green liquid splashed onto his shoulder. His clothes made a sizzling sound as the liquid began to rapidly corrode them, instantly eating away the fabric on his shoulder and exposing a large area of skin.
"What a troublesome little thing!" Blue Dye said helplessly, tearing off his clothes. He spun them in his hands like a plane's propeller, shielding his body from the incoming attack of the Little Demon and blocking the green liquid that splattered onto him.
Soon, Qingtian left the territory of the green monsters in the mountains, moving away from the corrosive liquid that burned the ground and trees with a sizzling sound, thick white smoke rising and filling the sky.
Nearby, Li Yunyang saw the thick white smoke and wrinkled his nose at the unpleasant smell. He quickly covered his nose and rushed over along the path. Sure enough, he saw Lan Ran Qingtian with his upper body exposed.
Holding a piece of clothing that had been corroded into tatters, Lan Ran Qingtian was about to move forward when he turned around and noticed Li Yunyang standing beside him. He called out, "Didn't you leave before me? Why are you still here?"
Li Yunyang squinted at him and without saying a word raised his Azure Dragon Sword and charged forward, shouting, "Azure Dragon Slash!"
Caught off guard, Lan Ran Qingtian was confused by Li Yunyang's sudden attack. He dodged while calling out, "Hey, what's wrong with you? Why are you attacking me?"
"Hmph! I don't care if you're real or fake; I'll deal with you first!" Li Yunyang was too annoyed by that damned Shape-shifting Monster. Even if he encountered a real person this time, he needed to vent his frustration.
Lan Ran Qingtian kept dodging. Having just fended off attacks from those Little Demon spirits, he had no time to waste with him; that kid was still waiting for him to save her.
With a 'smack', he caught Li Yunyang's Azure Dragon Sword with one hand. His sharp eyebrows framed eyes that glimmered like a leopard's as he shouted, "Stop messing around! Saving people is the most important thing!"
Li Yunyang pressed down hard but couldn't overpower Qingtian, whose muscular shoulder flexed as he pushed aside the sword. Feeling an immense force pushing him back, he staggered a few steps before finally stabilizing himself.
Frowning at his sword, Li Yunyang looked in shock at Lan Ran Qingtian. Is this really the true power of the legendary Holy Ten Exorcists? He had effortlessly neutralized his three-word technique, Azure Dragon Slash, with just one hand. Although he was reluctant to admit it, this man's abilities were indeed above his own; the title of Saint Ten was not just for show.
"Hmph! I'll let you go this time!" Li Yunyang stammered, trying to save face. He then said, "I just encountered a Shapeshifter that transformed into your likeness to trick me, but I dealt with it!"
"Shapeshifter? Transformed into my likeness?" Qingtian couldn't help but frown. In this forest, where danger lurked everywhere, it wasn't surprising for a beast capable of changing forms to appear. The two exchanged glances and turned to run forward; they needed to find Xiang Xueer and the missing child.
Xiang Xueer had just finished off a Two-Headed Hell Wolf and was preparing to leave the forest. After observing the blood trail left behind, she was ready to continue her pursuit. Just then, the air began to change, and the ground started to tremble slightly as if gathering energy.
What’s happening? She turned to look at the small stones bouncing up from the trembling ground and suddenly felt a pair of chilling eyes staring intently at her. She raised her gun and quickly turned around, only to see a pair of blood-red eyes peering at her from the overgrown bushes. The pupils were thin lines with a curve, resembling the massive scythe wielded by the Grim Reaper.
Taotie? Xiang Xueer's first reaction was this. She dared not move, feeling that even the slightest motion, even a drop of sweat rolling down her forehead, could trigger a deadly encounter with this invisible beast.
Xiang Xueer aimed her gun at the space between those eyes. A hissing sound came from the bushes; it was the heavy breathing of the monster, while the ground continued to tremble as if the entire forest was shuddering in fear.
She swallowed hard, waiting to see what kind of demon this Taotie was. However, in the blink of an eye, those red eyes vanished into the bushes. Xiang Xueer blinked hard; she hadn’t even seen when it disappeared, as if it had never been there at all.
At that moment, footsteps approached from behind. Xiang Xueer quickly turned and raised her gun. She heard Li Yunyang shout as he grabbed her gun barrel, saying, "Hey, don’t shoot! It’s us!"
Xiang Xueer frowned and looked over; it was indeed Li Yunyang and Lan Ran Qingtian. She took a deep breath and lowered her gun, cursing, "You two really picked the wrong time to show up! I just spotted the Taotie, and now that you’re here, it ran away!"
