"This... this... I..." Platypus stammered, unable to articulate. He initially wanted to say it was the Heart Demon who mentioned it, but if he said that, what if that guy came to silence him? So he quickly decided to keep quiet.
"What do you mean 'what'? You're lying!" Lan Ran Qingtian turned and glared at him. Suddenly, a strong smell of blood wafted through the air, carried by the mist from the waterfall.
Xiang Xueer frowned as she sniffed carefully, then threw Platypus to the ground and walked over the stone bridge. It became very clear that the water from the waterfall was mixed with red blood.
"It's blood!" Lian Cheng Xue exclaimed, pointing at the bottom of the waterfall. "Look, there's the most blood there!"
The three exchanged glances. Xiang Xueer quietly moved toward the base of the waterfall, Qingtian climbed to the top of the waterfall to observe the surroundings, while Lian Cheng Xue searched for clues around the stone bridge.
Strangely, there was no sign of the Serpent Empress anywhere, nor had they seen any corpses. Where was this blood coming from? Xiang Xueer reached out her hand and extended it into the waterfall; it turned out that behind the waterfall was not a stone wall but an empty space.
A smile appeared on her lips as she leaped in, jumping into the waterfall. Seeing this, Qingtian and Lian Cheng Xue followed suit, leaving Platypus frowning outside. "No way, they're going all out. Forget it, I should find a place to hide!"
Beyond the waterfall was a very spacious cave that seemed to have formed at least a hundred years ago. With a 'crack', Xiang Xueer stepped on something beneath her feet. She lit a match and looked down; the ground was covered in foul-smelling blood that spread from deep within the cave.
Xiang Xueer cautiously scanned her surroundings and quietly stepped deeper into the cave. The stench grew stronger as she held her AK-47 tightly, not daring to relax for even a second.
The cave wasn't very deep. When she reached its innermost part, she found numerous corpses lying haphazardly on the ground. Their hearts had long been ripped out; they had likely been dead for several days.
Qingtian looked around and shook his head. "She's not here, but she must have been here before!"
He pointed at some remnants of snake skin left on the ground. Xiang Xueer punched the stone wall in frustration. "Damn it! This cunning creature must have known we were coming and ran away first!"
After finally finding a clue, they still couldn't locate the Serpent Empress's shadow. Once Xiang Xueer exited the cave, she realized it was already fully bright outside; they only had one whole day left. It was truly urgent; she was almost burning with anxiety.
At that same time, a game of cat and mouse began in the forest across from them. A giant snake slithered through the trees while a shadow pursued it relentlessly like a malevolent spirit.
With a whoosh, a small figure blocked the path of the Giant Snake. The blue pupils contracted slightly as it coldly laughed, "Oh, I thought it was someone important. Turns out it's the Serpent Empress. Long time no see!"
The Giant Snake instantly transformed into a human figure, standing before him. The Red Eyes flickered strangely as it shouted, "Damn Heart Demon, what do you want?"
"Nothing much, just wanted to say hello!" The Heart Demon waved its hand with a smile that carried a chill, leaving everyone completely unsure of its true intentions.
The Serpent Empress furrowed her brows and took a small step back, feeling a surge of alarm in her heart. "Heart Demon, I have no personal grievances with you. It can't be that damned dragon wants to kill me?"
The Heart Demon shook its head and spread its hands. "Serpent Empress, you're overthinking it. Don't worry, the Demon Lord isn't interested in you right now; it's just that you still have some value for the time being!"
"Value?" The face of the Serpent Empress darkened as she cursed inwardly, "That damned Demon Lord and this Heart Demon’s minion—what kind of schemes are they plotting behind the scenes?"
As she spoke, the Heart Demon had already taken out a magic flute from its waist and elegantly placed it to its lips, playing a melodious tune. The Serpent Empress suddenly felt dizzy and clutched her head, wanting to escape. Suddenly, the music turned eerie, and she collapsed to the ground, rolling uncontrollably.
"Damn Heart Demon, I will kill you!" She decisively revealed her true form, black energy swirling in her mouth. With a loud crash, trees in the nearby forest fell in droves, immediately alarming the three people by the stone bridge.
"What’s that noise? Did you hear?" Lian Cheng Xue turned her head to look at the source of the sound. A row of fallen trees surrounded by black light shot up into the air as dust flew everywhere—it was quite an explosive scene.
It was the Serpent Empress; Xiang Xueer’s nerves had already pushed her to dash toward the commotion. "Damn stinky snake demon, I've finally found you! I swear I won't be human if I don't kill you today!"
Standing atop a tall tree trunk, the Heart Demon put away the magic flute and glanced sideways at Xiang Xueer who was rushing toward the Serpent Empress. It smiled and said, "Serpent Empress, I originally wanted to play with you a bit longer; my purpose has been achieved. Until we meet again!"
In a flash, the Heart Demon quickly disappeared into the forest, watching from a high vantage point as the battle approached.
"Serpent Empress!" Xiang Xueer could see the massive body of the Serpent Empress rolling in mid-air from afar. She pulled out an AK-47 from her back and with a gust of Azure Wind beneath her feet, jumped onto the back of the Serpent Empress and fired several rounds at its head with loud bangs.
The bullet hit the top of its head without causing any pain, like a mere tickle. The Serpent Empress glanced sideways at Xiang Xueer, who had somehow appeared above her: "Hmm? It's you again!"
"Nonsense, who else in this world would have such strong killing intent towards you besides me!" Xiang Xueer shouted angrily. If the gun didn't work, she would use a crossbow; if that didn't work, she would use a dagger to make a hole in your stomach and take out your Snake Gallbladder.
"Vile witch, I will drain your blood and dig out your heart!" The Serpent Empress finally became furious. After three or four attempts to kill her, both sides' eyes began to brim with intense Killing Intent.
Lian Cheng Xue and Lan Ran Qingtian stood below in shock, gazing up at Xiang Xueer, who was standing on top of the Serpent Empress. From what they had seen of her furious rage, the bloody and murderous glint in her black pupils sent chills down their spines.
"Is that Shirley?" Qingtian stood there dumbfounded, staring in disbelief at Xiang Xueer, who was continuously stabbing the Serpent Empress with a dagger. Could it be because of Li Yunyang? Was his safety making her so angry that she disregarded her own life?
Lian Cheng Xue rubbed his eyes vigorously. The high figure of Xiang Xueer standing atop the Serpent Empress seemed to shine with blood-red eyes. He thought he must be seeing things: "What on earth is happening?"
The Serpent Empress shook her body, trying to throw off Xiang Xueer from her head. However, Xiang Xueer clung tightly to the scales on her body, refusing to let go.
"Roar!" The enraged Serpent Empress could no longer contain herself. With a turn, dust flew up from the ground as she soared into the air towards the opposite valley. Xiang Xueer felt a surge of hot blood boiling within her; she had experienced this feeling before. Could it be that another soul within her was awakening?
No, I can't become a monster! I am Exorcist Xiang Xueer, not a monster! Go back! Xiang Xueer shouted angrily, forcefully suppressing that intense surge of hot blood.
She opened her black eyes again and pulled out the Serpent Whip from her pouch. Pointing both hands at the Serpent Empress's neck, she commanded: "Bind!" The serpent-shaped whip instantly coiled tightly around the Serpent Empress's neck.
Holding onto the Serpent Whip with one hand, she resembled a queen commanding a Giant Snake. No matter how much the Serpent Empress twisted and turned in the air, she refused to let go. This was her only chance; whether she could save Li Yunyang depended on this moment.
