On the second morning, if it weren't for Qiu Feng, perhaps Autumn Wind would have woken up naturally, once again seeing that lively, cone-shaped face: "Autumn Wind, will you accompany me to Southern this afternoon? My agent set up an event for me! Please... What do you mean you don't want to go... You have two options: either take Phoebe and Yusha to your place, or come with us to Southern!"
Even in this groggy state, Autumn Wind unhesitatingly chose to accompany her to Southern; she didn't want those two girls to see her living with Qiu Ruolan.
Autumn Wind got up from bed with sleepy eyes, forcing herself to open them and check the time: "It's only nine o'clock!" She rolled over in bed, deciding to sleep a little longer, but in her daze, she heard sounds coming from the living room. Suddenly remembering that Qiu Mowen had stayed here last night hit Autumn Wind like a cold blast, instantly waking her up.
Stumbling out of bed, Autumn Wind saw Qiu Ruolan elegantly eating breakfast at the dining table, next to today's Fruit Daily featuring an introduction about Qiu Ruolan's side business. She always shone like a star, of course not counting the sharp words exchanged during arguments with Autumn Wind.
Qiu Mowen was busy in the kitchen wearing an apron.
Perhaps because Autumn Wind had left the bathwater for Qiu Ruolan yesterday, she smiled and nodded at Autumn Wind, making Autumn Wind feel a bit shy.
Qiu Mowen poked her head out: "Autumn Wind is awake! Wash up and eat! Don't you have work today?"
Autumn Wind didn't answer Qiu Mowen and headed straight for the washroom. Ten minutes later, she reappeared looking her best. By then, Qiu Ruolan had finished eating. She walked past the long built-in wardrobe like a queen inspecting her troops. Her voice floated back: "I'm heading out first. Take your time eating, Autumn Wind; Ervin made it really delicious!"
Autumn Wind stood two meters away from the door, watching Qiu Ruolan tidy up her outfit. Then she approached Autumn Wind, brushed past her, opened the door, and stepped outside. But she turned back quickly and walked up to Autumn Wind, gently kissing her forehead.
The movement was so swift that as Qiu Ruolan turned around to close the door again, Autumn Wind was still stunned at the entrance.
Qiu Mowen sat down in the spot where Qiu Ruolan had just been, flipping through a newspaper while gently stirring her coffee: "When did your relationship get this good?" Autumn Wind didn't respond but pulled out a chair and chose to sit across from her. Qiu Mowen gently pushed a bowl of cereal toward Autumn Wind: "Your favorite... By the way, why didn't you continue hanging out with Leo last night?"
Why didn't I go out with Leo? Wasn't it you who asked him to bring me back? If what Leo said was true, then what does that mean? Is he testing me?
"You didn't continue hanging out with Liuliu either!" Autumn Wind retorted.
Qiu Mowen raised his head, furrowed his brow slightly, then let his eyes droop and the corners of his mouth lift: "Liuliu is just my colleague from the mainland! Don't think too much about it! ... But you, listening to your mom, have you got a boyfriend? Is it that Jak? Isn't he a friend of Leo?"
Qiu Mowen's words contained three points that could infuriate Autumn Wind: Liuliu, your mom, and boyfriend. He appeared very relaxed, which completely shattered Autumn Wind's composure: "I don't care who Liuliu is! Who is my mom! Who is my boyfriend!" Autumn Wind pushed the cereal forward and nearly roared. The cereal shook from side to side, spilling onto the table. "Jak is Leo's friend; he has nothing to do with me!"
Yet Qiu Mowen remained calm as he flipped through the newspaper, his eyebrows slightly raised with a hint of a smirk: "Why are you so worked up? It's fine if you let someone massage your feet! It's fine if you let someone kiss you!"
Autumn Wind slammed the table, an inexplicable anger surging up: "I told you, we have nothing to do with each other! Nothing at all!"
Qiu Mowen continued nonchalantly: "If there's nothing going on, why are you so agitated?" Suddenly, he tilted his head back and looked directly into Autumn Wind's eyes.
Autumn Wind completely lost control; specifically, Autumn Wind was provoked by Qiu Mowen's indifferent taunts: "Why don't you believe me? We're just ordinary friends! It's just politeness! Do you understand politeness?"
Qiu Mowen lowered his head and continued stirring his coffee, a low voice emerging from his moving throat: "Don't be so agitated; I'm not interested in your relationships! I was just asking casually! No need to get so worked up!"
These words felt like a bucket of ice water poured over Autumn Wind's head, instantly freezing her in place. After a brief moment of shock came the pain of a knife slicing through her chest, accompanied by an inexplicable sense of grievance, and tears burst forth. Then Autumn Wind, like a bull seeing red, began to run wildly. She pushed away her chair and said, "Sorry, I'm done eating; I have things to do. I'm leaving!"
With that, Autumn Wind rushed back to her room, frantically packing her bags. She wanted to leave this place that was almost suffocating her; she didn't want to see Qiu Mowen anymore.
After packing her things, Autumn Wind dragged her luggage out of the bedroom when Qiu Mowen put down the newspaper and stood up.
Autumn Wind shot him a fierce glare and headed straight for the door. Unfortunately, her suitcase got stuck; no matter how hard she pulled, it wouldn't budge. So she bent down and hugged the suitcase.
Then she struggled to open the door but realized she was still wearing pajamas. Anger surged up again as she freed one hand and nearly tore off her pajamas in frustration. Her messy hair stuck to her face, and everything in front of Autumn Wind became blurry.
A hand finally could not bear the weight of the suitcase any longer, and with a loud "thud," it fell to the floor, startling her into sudden calmness.
Tears finally fell, and Autumn Wind sobbed, occasionally gasping for air.
A pair of strong arms crossed around Autumn Wind's waist, followed by a solid chest pressing against her back. The warmth radiated through their clothes, and Autumn Wind could hear his steady heartbeat. She heard him softly say, "I'm sorry, I'm really sorry!"
Then there was silence.
Ten minutes later, Autumn Wind finally regained her composure, while Qiu Mowen also reacted, beginning to show signs of flustered confusion. Autumn Wind saw his face flush as he leaned against the wall; one hand rested on the wall while the other tightly held onto her arm.
Autumn Wind forcefully shook him off, but he grabbed her again. She shook him off once more, and he tightened his grip again. After several attempts, he embraced her tightly from behind.
In that moment, Autumn Wind's legs went weak, completely relying on Qiu Mowen's strength to stand. After an unknown amount of time, a composed Qiu Mowen suddenly let go of her. He hurriedly stepped back a few paces, repeatedly apologizing, while a completely exhausted Autumn Wind collapsed onto the ground, leaning forward until she lay flat on the floor. Two hours later, Autumn Wind woke up to find herself lying on that pink capsule bed. She propped herself up and scanned the entire house; Qiu Mowen had disappeared again.
She held her forehead and noticed a bandage was stuck to it.
The entanglement with Qiu Mowen flashed through her mind like scenes from a movie. She suddenly felt as if her heart had died; all her previous hopes for Qiu Mowen turned to ice in an instant.
It turned out they were both cowards, forever afraid to look into their own hearts in the mirror. She wiped away the tears that had overflowed without her noticing. Getting out of bed, she put on her shoes and took her luggage out of the house.
She actually had a glimmer of hope to find a note left for her by Qiu Mowen, but after searching the entire house, she found no message from him.
When Autumn Wind arrived at Zhao Jingqi's house, Zhao Jingqi was cautiously tidying up. It was noon, and Phoebe and Yusha were taking their afternoon nap. Autumn Wind tiptoed in fear of making any noise and then cautiously stood behind Qiu Feng. Seeing that Autumn Wind had appeared so late made Zhao Jingqi a bit angry, but when she looked up and saw the bandage on Autumn Wind's head, her expression suddenly relaxed as she squinted and scrutinized her: "Where did you go last night?"
Autumn Wind scratched her head, sat on the bed, and then relaxed her shoulders to lie back down, staring blankly at the floral ceiling: "No way, you really went out to have fun, a whole bunch of handsome guys, how can I get to know them!"
"I'm a respectable woman! I can't, I can't!" Zhao Jingqi made a gesture like a flower girl, leaning over Autumn Wind to seriously sniff her. "Did you drink last night?"
"Me? Drink?" Autumn Wind lifted her arm and sniffed her shoulder from the sleeve. "Which of your nostrils smells alcohol?" After saying this, Autumn Wind's head suddenly felt heavy. She didn't know if it was because she had stayed up too late last night or if it was due to the blow from Qiu Mowen, but her eyes felt as if they were weighed down by tons of stones, and she couldn't help but close them. "I'm going to sleep for a bit; you tidy up and wake me when we're ready to leave!"
"Hey, you're my assistant! Are you kidding me?" Qiu Feng's voice drifted into Autumn Wind's ears, growing fainter. She quickly fell asleep again. In her dream, she saw the scene of Grandma's funeral, but there wasn't a single person in sight; the entire dream consisted of a piece of paper floating in the air with eleven words written on it: Noble Qiu Ruolan, son Qiu Mowen, grandson Autumn Wind. Then an old voice kept repeating this phrase like a spell, getting faster and faster until finally, Autumn Wind screamed "Ah!" and woke up completely.
Her forehead was sweaty, and Yusha and Phoebe were surrounding her head wound performing surgery (the girls were playing house)! Zhao Jingqi had packed her bags and was looking at her with disdain while the company driver helped carry things behind her.
Autumn Wind supported her head and stood up unsteadily, following them downstairs. Below was the nanny car provided by the company for Qiu Feng and her children. As soon as Autumn Wind sat in the back seat, she felt drowsy again; as soon as she made contact with the seat, she fell back into a deep sleep.
The heaviness in her heart far exceeded her physical fatigue.
At one point, Autumn Wind was awakened by the annoying ringing of a phone. The first call was from Leo. When he learned that Autumn Wind was going to Southern, his tone revealed a hint of disappointment; he mumbled a few words before hanging up.
As soon as Autumn Wind hung up on Leo, she looked up to see Qiu Feng glaring at her. Knowing that she was somewhat angry, Autumn Wind planned to say a few good words. But just as she organized her thoughts, her phone rang again; this time it was Yu.
