Communicating with others is clearly not Autumn Wind's strong suit, and it seems that Liu Jian isn't particularly good at it either, as more than ten minutes passed without him saying a word to Autumn Wind.
Thinking about how Yao Lizhen had gone to such lengths to introduce him to her, Autumn Wind couldn't help but find it comical, and she let out a laugh.
With her hand resting on her forehead, Liu Jian turned his head and glanced at Autumn Wind, forcing a shy smile. Under the harsh lighting, Autumn Wind noticed his face turning beet red. She straightened up and coughed twice, "So, do you know Sister Li Zhen's plans?"
He was taken aback for a moment before breaking into a silly grin. Thirty seconds later, he gave the same answer as Autumn Wind: "It's a blind date!" However, those three words sounded unexpectedly elegant coming from his mouth.
Autumn Wind joined in the silly laughter, "Right! It's a blind date!"
Then there was a burst of laughter, which soon turned awkward, and the atmosphere became as cold as snow-covered ground.
Just then, Leo sent a voice message: "If you don't come soon, we're changing venues!"
In the chilly air, Autumn Wind exhaled some warm breath and pretended to be relaxed as she shouted into the microphone, "Go ahead and change venues! I'm going home!"
A few seconds later, Leo replied, "Alright, I can tell you're on your way. We'll wait for you!" The background noise made it sound like Leo was being fed drinks by someone.
Finally unable to hold back, Liu Jian asked, "Are you talking to your boyfriend?"
Boyfriend—this was one of the most frequently heard words by Autumn Wind lately. However, hearing it come from such a handsome guy like Liu Jian felt strange, causing her face to flush.
Okay, Autumn Wind admitted she might have a bit of a crush, but it wasn't serious.
"Not at all! Why would you think that? He's just an ordinary friend! Why don't you come up too? I can introduce you!" It felt like a deer sprinting down the highway. Autumn Wind lowered her head and fiddled with her phone while waiting for Liu Jian's response.
Flirting with a handsome guy was truly delightful; however, a text message popped up on her phone that completely crushed her good mood: ervin and Liuliu are also here.
What had started as a light-hearted feeling suddenly slammed to a halt like stepping on the brakes hard. After making a screeching sound, it came to an abrupt stop. Autumn Wind almost forgot about Qiu Mowen, but this sudden reminder quickly defeated her lightheartedness. She felt as if countless people inside her were knocked down and then suddenly stood up again like zombies, stretching their arms forward and jumping.
In shock, Autumn Wind felt herself being pushed forward as if someone had shoved her into an abyss. She forced her eyes open only to find that Liu Jian had already parked the car in the kv parking lot.
"Do you need me to wait for you here?" Liu Jian did not look at Autumn Wind, only leaning his head toward the car window.
The words sounded soft, yet they struck Autumn Wind like a hammer, pulling her back to reality. Just thinking of Qiu Mowen made her inexplicably sad.
So, Autumn Wind took a deep breath and said, "Okay! It's a promise!"
Autumn Wind restrained her emotions and fully opened the car door, walking toward the side entrance of Haoledi. However, after taking a few steps, she felt weak again. Her heart was in a chaotic mess, so she retreated back to Liu Jian's car window and gently tapped on it. "Um, why are you waiting for me here?"
Liu Jian mumbled, "I just think girls shouldn't be out this late!"
This sounded familiar; it seemed Qiu Ruolan had said something similar a few days ago.
Autumn Wind responded with an "Oh," and left the car again, but found it hard to approach that place. She turned around, and Liu Jian was rolling up the window. Seeing her turn back, he hurriedly opened it again, stammering, "Do you... do you have anything else to say?"
Autumn Wind didn't even know what she was doing. Perhaps she just wanted to buy some time for herself: "Nothing much. Aren't you afraid your girlfriend will see you waiting here?"
"I don't have a girlfriend!" Liu Jian couldn't help but blush at his own words. Autumn Wind wanted to laugh at his answer but couldn't bring herself to smile from the heart.
Autumn Wind lightly said thank you and turned back toward the entrance of the kv. At the door, she glanced back at Liu Jian. This time he was smart enough to keep the window open and watch her. Unable to resist, Autumn Wind blew him a kiss.
The lighting was dim, and she wasn't sure if he blushed again.
As Autumn Wind's figure completely disappeared behind the doors of Haoledi, Liu Jian couldn't help but cheer quietly. He took out his iPhone and quickly tapped a few times. A video appeared on the screen—specifically, a street basketball trick shot video. The footage was a bit shaky and the sound somewhat noisy, but as the impressive skills concluded, the camera finally focused on a girl next to the basketball hoop.
The girl squatted on the ground, tilting her face slightly upward at a 15-degree angle. She smiled, revealing her neat white teeth; her black hair was slightly curly and reached her waist, radiating youth and brilliance. When someone called her name, she stood up and jumped away from the camera's view; that person called her name: Wendy.
Yes, this girl was Autumn Wind.
Liu Jian could hardly believe that just before leaving Taiwan to return to America, he would encounter this girl from the video who had occupied his thoughts day and night.
The video was shot by Leo back when Autumn Wind was still dating Yao Guanghao. Yao Guanghao often took Autumn Wind to various colorful basketball competitions; this was one of them.
The video was saved by Leo and later uploaded to the website, where it was seen by Liu Jian.
Liu Jian had contacted Leo countless times, subtly expressing his desire to meet a girl named Wendy. Leo quickly replied, informing him that Wendy was in Taiwan but did not disclose any other information. After that, when Liu Jian tried to reach out again, his emails went unanswered.
This unexpected discovery stirred Liu Jian's emotions, and he immediately decided to change his flight. He was eager to continue the intriguing story with Autumn Wind.
However, Liu Jian was ultimately a reserved person. Deep down, he desperately wanted to follow Autumn Wind into Haoledi. He wanted to know who she was meeting and was eager to learn everything related to her. His excessive subtlety at Yao Lizhen's house had left him completely in the dark about Autumn Wind.
Through the glass, the colorful lights flickered, reflecting off of Liu Jian's slightly dazed eyes. The waiting without a time limit was the hardest; ten minutes passed, then twenty, then half an hour, yet Autumn Wind still did not come out.
Liu Jian could no longer bear it.
He got out of the car and paced back and forth. The feeling of ants crawling on his heart was truly unbearable. The late autumn wind was somewhat chilly, wrapping around him—not too cold but enough to tighten his heart, much like Autumn Wind herself, with a fluffy tail that tickled him.
He walked around the car several times as cars passed by him. Eventually, he decided to return to the car. He watched the video again and then called Yao Lizhen. It was quiet on her end; she must have already gone home.
Upon receiving Liu Jian's call, Yao Lizhen's tone became excited. When she confirmed that Liu Jian had taken Autumn Wind to Haoledi, she became even more animated, like a lottery player waiting for results. She couldn't wait to ask, "Where are you now? Are you with Autumn Wind?"
"Haoledi... Hey sis, can you ask brother-in-law to change my flight? Yes, change it to next Monday! I have something to take care of." Gradually calming down, Liu Jian informed Yao Lizhen of his final decision—he wanted to stay in Taiwan and was eager to continue with Autumn Wind.
Yao Lizhen's tone suddenly turned strange, laced with an odd smile. "What? Is there potential for development with Autumn Wind?"
"Don't be ridiculous!" Although Yao Lizhen hit the nail on the head, Liu Jian stubbornly refused to admit it. "I still have some issues with my accounts!"
"Is that so? Weren't you in a hurry to go back for a lawsuit?" Yao Lizhen did not accept Liu Jian's excuse regarding his accounts. When Liu Jian had previously rejected her offer to introduce him to a girlfriend, he used this same excuse against her. If it weren't for Yao Mama's birthday in between, Liu Jian would have likely flown back to America long ago.
In fact, looking at Liu Jian's identity—young, accomplished, and handsome—he should have plenty of girls around him. However, ever since his breakup last year, he seemed like a different person. Liu Jian's mother, who is also Yao Lizhen's aunt, had been worried about his orientation issues; thus, Liu Jian's happiness became a concern entrusted to Yao Lizhen.
Actually, when Liu Jian first returned to Taipei a few days ago, Yao Lizhen took him to several fashion parties where many stars and models showed him ample enthusiasm. After all, a handsome man like Liu Jian is usually the target of female celebrities' affections. But Liu Jian's attitude almost drove Yao Lizhen to bang her head against the wall; it felt like a painful sense of hope extinguished.
Fortunately, when Liu Jian saw Autumn Wind and his eyes lit up slightly at that moment, Yao Lizhen caught it. At least this indicated that there were still women who could spark something within Liu Jian; how long that spark would last depended on how long this fireball named Autumn Wind was willing to cooperate.
Yao Lizhen took a moment to collect herself. "What about Autumn Wind? Is she next to you?"
"Not at all. She went inside, and I'm waiting for her."
"Waiting for her? Why don't you go in?"
"..." Liu Jian actually wanted to know the answer to that question too. "It seems like all her friends are there. It might be inconvenient for me to go in!"
"Inconvenient? What's inconvenient about it? Young people should get to know more friends; what's wrong with that? Hey, dear, why do I feel like I don't even recognize you anymore! Sigh!" Yao Lizhen sighed lightly. "Alright, I'll have your brother-in-law change your flight... So, how long has Autumn Wind been inside?"
"About thirty minutes! It's fine, I'll wait a bit longer!" Liu Jian slightly raised his wrist, and when he noticed the hand of the clock slowly approaching nine o'clock, he was a bit surprised but still had to control his emotions and pretended to respond casually.
"You wait here; I'll give her a call!" After saying that, Yao Lizhen hung up the phone.
But almost like Liu Jian, after hanging up, Yao Lizhen was also breathing heavily due to nervousness.
In fact, introducing Autumn Wind to Liu Jian was a very risky thing for Yao Lizhen.
