After that argument, Qiu Feng never contacted Autumn Wind again. The two people who were once close became like two parallel lines, infinitely extending without ever intersecting.
Life often brings us many surprises that we deliberately arrange, but if we are not careful, these surprises can easily turn into a farce. However, do not worry; you would never expect that the real surprise does not need to be intentionally arranged.
This surprise was specially arranged by Liu Jian for Autumn Wind, but it ended up making Autumn Wind feel utterly embarrassed once again.
Upon learning that Autumn Wind and Qiu Feng had fallen out, Liu Jian showed an unmistakable excitement. He had never liked the idea of Autumn Wind being associated with Qiu Feng.
During that time, Liu Jian either urged Autumn Wind to go fishing or insisted that she go shopping.
He trustingly shoved his card into Autumn Wind's hand, looking sincere as he indicated that she could spend freely.
Autumn Wind gently rubbed the card with her fingers and looked up to carefully examine Liu Jian's face. Seeing his face full of sincerity, the unease buried deep in her heart suddenly began to stir, and guilt emerged like a spring well awakening after winter, bubbling up little by little.
A week passed unknowingly, and Qiu Feng still had not contacted Autumn Wind. In the meantime, Qiu Ruolan called a few times; her tone was no longer as cheerful as before. After briefly discussing some matters about the program, she fell silent.
Autumn Wind was unwilling to face a silent phone line and hastily ended the call after exchanging a few perfunctory words.
Suddenly, an idea popped into her mind: she should find a new job. As soon as this thought emerged, it immediately suppressed her long-held desire to reconcile with Qiu Feng.
That's right; she would go find a new job, Autumn Wind silently decided.
However, the next day, when Autumn Wind finished getting ready and planned to go look for a new job, she was stopped by Liu Jian.
Facing the elegantly dressed Autumn Wind, Liu Jian looked alert and asked, "What are you planning to do?"
"Looking for a job. I've been unemployed for so long; I can't wait until I'm starving to go out," Autumn Wind replied as she walked to the mirror, tidying her appearance while answering Liu Jian.
"I can take care of you forever!" Liu Jian said in a low voice, but Autumn Wind didn't hear him because his voice was too soft.
Seeing that Autumn Wind didn't respond, a hint of panic appeared on Liu Jian's face. He quickly walked to the dressing mirror and stood in front of Autumn Wind. "You can't go out today... I have plans with friends, and I need you to accompany me..."
"Me?" Autumn Wind was rarely involved in Liu Jian's activities, so she was taken aback. She touched her earrings and then gently nodded, "Alright, then I'll look for a job tomorrow..."
A flicker of panic reflected on Liu Jian's face as his eyes blinked rapidly. "Uh, okay..." After saying that, he hurried into his wardrobe and began picking out clothes.
He closed the wardrobe door while changing, but once the door was shut, Autumn Wind could vaguely hear Liu Jian talking on the phone.
The sound of the phone call continued intermittently for a minute. After a few moments of silence, Liu Jian emerged from the wardrobe, sweat glistening on his forehead. As soon as he stepped out, he immediately said, "Let's go..."
Seeing Liu Jian's usual calm demeanor replaced by such a flustered one made Autumn Wind feel a bit strange. Could something happen today?
Liu Jian was the type of handsome guy who radiated sunshine. His handsome looks always drew whispers wherever he went.
He wouldn't be like those handsome men in fairy tales who would prepare coffee for Autumn Wind with cream and sugar or awkwardly hand her a tissue to wipe her mouth. Most of the time, he presented himself as a typical macho man.
Aside from the time he deliberately hugged Autumn Wind outdoors to reassure her, the most intimate gesture he had made towards her in public—if you didn't count fastening her seatbelt—was simply wrapping his arm around her waist and helping her into the car.
So when he wrapped his arm around Autumn Wind's waist while going down the stairs today, she couldn't help but pinch his arm hard. He let out an "ouch," and after a brief grimace, his face immediately broke into a smile.
The warmth of his smile made Autumn Wind feel as if she were lying on a soft velvet bed. Underneath that strange smile, she felt anxious as Liu Jian pulled her into the car, wrapping her up like a package and then cautiously fastening her seatbelt.
At the moment he leaned over to buckle her seatbelt against her chest, Autumn Wind's heart suddenly stopped beating. He had deliberately used the shampoo she liked today; a faint lavender scent wafted from his well-groomed hair.
Before this, Autumn Wind had protested countless times, hoping Liu Jian would give up his beloved Alerna shampoo. The scent of Alerna always made Autumn Wind feel nauseous. Autumn Wind even sneaked in to replace it while he was showering, but Liu Jian magically produced another bottle from somewhere.
He sat in the driver's seat, buckled his seatbelt, and gently said, "Darling, are you ready? Let's go!"
His tone was completely charming, and at that moment, Autumn Wind noticed the fine beads of sweat forming on Liu Jian's forehead and suddenly became alert.
According to Liu Jian's routine, he should have picked up his golf clubs early in the morning and followed Wang Shaowu excitedly to the White Ball club that fascinated him, instead of looking like a prince charming now, with a face full of tension, taking Autumn Wind—who couldn't transform into Cinderella before midnight—to what he called "the most important date of his life."
The air conditioning in the car was strong. As soon as they drove out of the parking lot, Autumn Wind couldn't help but take out a black top from his bag and wrap it around himself. Liu Jian was focused on the road ahead, his eyes fixed and completely unaware that Autumn Wind was already shivering a bit.
In fact, the so-called "most important date of his life" was just a dinner with a few of Liu Jian's friends. Autumn Wind had met several of these friends individually before; some worked in the entertainment industry and could chat lively.
However, the presence of their elegantly dressed female companions always made Autumn Wind uncomfortable. The seemingly delicate women only talked about fashion and finance, topics that Autumn Wind couldn't engage in and could only smile awkwardly.
What made Autumn Wind even more embarrassed was that these friends from the entertainment industry would coincidentally ask the same question every ten minutes: "Are you still Qiu Feng's assistant?"
Were they all familiar with Qiu Feng? Why did everyone ask the same question?
From the first time he faced this question with slight muscle twitches to the last time he had to answer it, Autumn Wind could feel his muscles starting to stiffen. When he forced a smile, it hurt slightly. "Hehe, I've had some issues recently and am temporarily out of work!"
He felt guilty and even a bit anxious. Autumn Wind still couldn't figure out what had happened between him and Qiu Feng.
It was a lavish seafood feast. When the luxurious King Crab was served, it elicited some cheers. Autumn Wind glanced sideways at those poised ladies, wondering how they would display their elegance while eating such a thing.
Liu Jian helped Autumn Wind serve food while gently introducing the upcoming itinerary: "This afternoon, Rahel has arranged for a luxury cruise!"
Rahel is the ugly man who replaced Liu Jian at the company entrance. His teeth are still dazzling, and the woman beside him has even more colorful hair.
Autumn Wind politely nodded at him, "Doesn't that mean we won't be in Taipei this afternoon!"
As Autumn Wind took a bite of the crab leg, she suddenly regretted it when her lips touched the shell that had a strong ocean flavor. Autumn Wind forgot that she was allergic to seafood.
The greatest advantage of a foodie is that they are not easily calculative. Autumn Wind would keep drinking coffee because she liked its taste, supported by Fish's encouragement, even though she couldn't sleep for two consecutive nights; on the third night, she still went for it without hesitation.
She clearly remembered the time she was sent to the hospital for emergency treatment after sneaking a bite of lobster. But thinking that this was her first time eating King Crab, Autumn Wind still convinced herself: just a little won't hurt.
In her ears, Liu Jian continued to softly introduce the afternoon's itinerary while Autumn Wind savored the flavorful food in her mouth. Forgetting about her allergy, even the refined image she had been trying to maintain seemed about to collapse.
Liu Jian gave Autumn Wind a side glance, beads of sweat rolling down his forehead to the corner of his eye, but he remained oblivious. Autumn Wind used a tissue to wipe it for him, but he flinched back as if pricked by a needle.
Autumn Wind recalled Liu Jian's unusual behavior today; he used to sit like a young master, letting the waitstaff serve tea and water. Since entering this private room, Liu Jian had gone in and out more than ten times, looking hurried and anxious.
However, before Autumn Wind could voice her concerns, she began to have difficulty breathing. Behind her was a shiny glass wall that could almost serve as a mirror; every inch of her skin turned red and swollen. She trembled and struggled to speak, spitting out two words at the bewildered Liu Jian: "Allergic."
After that, he carried her on his shoulder and rushed out of the private room.
In Autumn Wind's peripheral vision, she saw disappointed faces, including those of Young Ladies whom she thought would mock her.
As Liu Jian drove Autumn Wind to the hospital, she squinted and lay in the back seat, watching large clouds float past above her head.
The sky in Taipei resembled the wallpaper in Andy's room from Toy Story, presenting an utterly refreshing scene.
As if standing in a vast grassland, Autumn Wind rode on horseback and began to gallop, up and down, slowly falling asleep.
After finishing the IV drip, when Autumn Wind came out, the colors were a bit hazy. Summer nights always come late. Liu Jian insisted on carrying Autumn Wind out, and Autumn Wind gently climbed onto his back.
As they passed by, a man with bruises on his face brushed past Autumn Wind. Although he wore a baseball cap and half of his face was covered by sunglasses, he was quickly recognized as a singer known for his talent in writing songs to charm women.
Autumn Wind was particularly impressed by him because years ago, he had been beaten into the hospital by Yao Guanghao due to a feud involving a famous model.
The man's hand was clearly injured, and he was accompanied by an assistant who looked quite disheveled. Autumn Wind stared at the assistant for a few moments, wondering if following Qiu Feng would also lead to this kind of situation.
He must have gotten into trouble again, concluded Autumn Wind cheerfully as he rested his chin on Liu Jian's shoulder. "Hey, dear, did you notice that person just now?"
Liu Jian's face was foggy, completely different from the energetic youth in the morning. He seemed not to hear Autumn Wind's words and continued to move forward listlessly. Without receiving an answer, Autumn Wind dared not speak further.
Knowing he was gently placed in the back seat, under the dim light, Autumn Wind saw a face that expressed disappointment.
Later, Liu Jian told Autumn Wind that he had originally planned a second proposal.
