Autumn Wind was wolfing down the lunch that Sister Liu had just prepared at the dining table. Despite her repeated invitations for everyone to join, only Oke came forward.
After playing at the table for a while, Oke was picked up by Fish and taken upstairs as nap time approached, right when Autumn Wind was halfway through her meal.
As she continued eating, Autumn Wind felt that the atmosphere in the room was a bit strange; everyone seemed to be staring at her. But whenever she looked at them, they hurriedly averted their gazes.
“Sister Liu?” Autumn Wind called out, “Is there something on my face?”
“No, no…” Sister Liu’s face turned red, looking as if she wanted to say something but hesitated.
Autumn Wind handed her bowl to Sister Liu, “Please serve me another bowl of porridge!”
Sister Liu lowered her head to take the bowl, quickly filled it up, and handed it back to Autumn Wind.
What’s wrong with me? Autumn Wind picked up her phone and opened the camera function, but after a while, she still didn’t see anything unusual about herself.
After putting Oke to sleep, Fish came downstairs. Halfway down, she suddenly screamed, “Autumn Wind, why is your skirt so short today?”
Skirt? Am I wearing a skirt? I’m clearly wearing jeans today, Autumn Wind thought as she finished the last sip of porridge and wiped her mouth, looking down at her outfit.
“Ah…” She realized she was only wearing a long shirt and had no pants on. Fortunately, the shirt was long enough to cover her backside.
No wonder everyone looked at her strangely just now; she didn’t even bother to grab her phone.
With nearly sprinting speed, she rushed back to her room. Inside, the jeans she should have been wearing lay quietly on the floor.
After putting on her jeans, Autumn Wind felt her face burning with embarrassment and didn’t want to go back down. She lay on the bed, tapping her nails adorned with various rhinestones against the pillow. How could I have been so absent-minded!
Fish came in holding her phone, the ringtone buzzing. "Your call!" Fish had a strange expression on her face as she handed the phone to Autumn Wind, looking intently at Autumn Wind's face.
"What's wrong? Is there something on my face?" Autumn Wind reached for the phone with one hand while the other hand touched her face, finding nothing there.
Looking at the phone screen, she saw it was Liu Jian.
Her heart fluttered slightly as her fingertip slid across the screen to answer the call.
Liu Jian didn't speak right away; there was only the sound of nervous breathing on the line. After a moment, a voice came through, "Hello, is this Autumn Wind?"
"Uh, it's you..." Autumn Wind let out a dry laugh, deliberately trying to sound casual.
"Well, there's a fashion party at the group tonight. Sister Sally and Y are back to attend; you should come too!" His voice trembled slightly as he tried to keep his tone steady, giving Liu Jian's voice a comical quality.
"Y is coming too?" Autumn Wind suddenly remembered a message from Huang Zihe in her dreams that seemed to mention something like this.
"Yeah... it's for tomorrow's spokesperson launch event!" Liu Jian added.
"What time? If it's too late, I might... I mean, I can't handle it!" Feeling unwell had become her most convincing excuse since the accident.
"It's not too late; it starts at six... I'll have the driver pick you up!" Since becoming the HK General Manager, Liu Jian had gained quite a bit of swagger; Lin Yun had given him all her resources in Taipei.
With dual degrees in law and international trade, Liu Jian was cool and suave, having honed his charm since his student days. Yet, all of that seemed to vanish in front of Autumn Wind.
In front of her, he appeared like a man afraid of making mistakes, cautious and overly eager to please her—this had always been the case, but even more so after the accident.
"No need for that; just send me the address. I'll have Uncle Liu take me!" Autumn Wind bit her lip and said softly.
"I mean, what identity should I go as? As Sister Sally's family, or..." she added.
"Of course, as the management of hk!" Liu Jian immediately replied, feeling immensely grateful that Qiu Hai had reminded him; otherwise, he and Autumn Wind... sigh...
After nervously hanging up on Autumn Wind, Liu Jian realized his back was completely wet. After a brief moment of calm, he picked up the internal phone. "Hello, please connect me to the chairman's office!" A few seconds later, Qiu Hai's voice came through the receiver.
"Hello, what happened?"
"Nothing, I just wanted to thank you! I'll treat you to dinner sometime!" Upon hearing Qiu Hai's voice, Liu Jian suddenly forgot what he wanted to say and stammered.
"Dinner? Let's skip that. I heard from Ervin that you're quite good at golf! You have quite a collection of clubs; we should practice together sometime?" Qiu Hai's voice was loud and clear.
Qiu Mowen had mentioned me to him, and Liu Jian felt a shiver run through him; it was still that painful topic he didn't want to touch. "Um, okay!" Liu Jian agreed.
Autumn Wind, Liu Jian, and Qiu Hai were like sparrows standing on a power line; after each pair finished their calls, someone would feel a tremor in their heart.
This time it was Qiu Hai. He frowned and suddenly felt regret.
Just as he expected, his suggestion for Autumn Wind to come to hk was indeed to hope for a united front with her, which would mean that the vast majority of shares would be in his hands. But every time he saw Liu Jian in a disheveled state, he felt reluctant and wanted to do whatever he could to help facilitate the reunion between Liu Jian and Autumn Wind.
Yet every time Liu Jian acted according to his own will, it felt like a needle piercing his heart.
Since meeting Autumn Wind, he had discovered that this woman had a fatal attraction for him.
But she just happened to be the adopted daughter of Qiu Ruolan, and she had countless connections with Qiu Mowen.
He admitted that when he learned about the annulment of the engagement between Autumn Wind and Liu Jian, there was a slight thrill in his heart.
He also admitted that he felt a slight thrill upon discovering Autumn Wind's peeking.
However, the one thing he was unwilling to admit was that he had already started to fall in love with Autumn Wind.
What he found even harder to accept was that he had to create the illusion that he was helping Liu Jian and Autumn Wind get back together. It was more unbearable than having a knife cut into his flesh, more painful than reopening a healed wound.
More importantly, he clearly knew that there was a secret he could not tell anyone... The existence of this secret made him lack the courage to pursue Autumn Wind.
When Yu learned that Liu Jian had called her to invite her to the fashion party that night, she immediately became excited. She showcased the crystal nails she had carefully prepared for Autumn Wind the night before, saying, "See? I have foresight! This saves us a lot of trouble!"
Autumn Wind did not think that crystal nails were a necessary condition for attending the party; she was more worried about whether she would embarrass herself or faint again.
Yu noticed Autumn Wind's concern and asked, "Do you want me to go with you?"
"Sure, sure!" Autumn Wind readily accepted Yu's suggestion. With Yu by her side, she felt an inexplicable sense of security. She didn't have to worry about awkward silences, her makeup failing, or the appearance of Jolie, and she certainly didn't have to worry about fainting.
Because even if she did faint, Yu would immediately find a way to wake her up.
However, Yu frowned as she finally remembered her precious son. "What about Oke?"
"Oh, can you still think about your son while you're at a party?"
Suddenly mentioning Oke, Yu startled herself. She just had an inexplicable feeling that something was going to happen tonight.
"Sister Liu will help take care of him..." Autumn Wind stood up while searching for her clothes in the closet. Recently, Qiu Ruolan had gone to Milan for a fashion show and prepared several designer dresses for Autumn Wind. Some of the dresses were so stunning that Autumn Wind couldn't believe they were created by famous designers. If I took an unused piece of clothing and added some bright colors, maybe I could also become a high-end fashion designer.
"It wouldn't be too much trouble for Sister Liu, would it?" It was just being polite.
"Don't worry, Sister Liu and Uncle Liu both really like Oke. Besides, there's also Ah Wei and Ahe! If you accompany me today, they won't need to go!" Autumn Wind said as she took a dress out of the closet.
This one will do, a light blue off-shoulder dress with tassels. Recently, Autumn Wind has been quite fond of tassel items.
Fish's face turned slightly red as she murmured, "Alright!"
After Fish quickly applied some simple makeup for herself, she began to carefully dress up Autumn Wind. After all, today Autumn Wind was the hostess—HK Public Relations Manager, Second Largest Shareholder, Qiu Ruolan's daughter, and the former fiancée of the HK General Manager. Each title was enough to attract attention, and more importantly, there were those ambiguous rumors surrounding Huang Zihe.
Fish thought to herself that she had to make sure Autumn Wind stood out among the crowd to live up to all this hype.
Even though Fish was fully prepared, the situation that evening still left her feeling blindsided.
As for the guest list that included Qiu Ruolan and others she already knew about attending the banquet, let's not discuss that for now; Yao Yao and other artists on the guest list could wait too.
When Fish linked arms with Autumn Wind and entered the venue, the first person she saw made her feel like running into a wall—coming straight towards them was her ex-husband Xu Zhongyao.
At that moment, Fish really wanted to find a place to hide. She quickly pulled Autumn Wind into a corner, just wanting to catch her breath.
But then she bumped into something hard. They looked up and found it was Yao Guanghao...
Even though he was Autumn Wind's ex-boyfriend, it was not Autumn Wind who panicked this time. Ever since Leo returned and Autumn Wind noticed Yao Guanghao's disheveled appearance, she had seriously thought about it afterward. Yao Guanghao's panic indeed had its reasons; if Prince Andrew's situation could be considered an attempt, then Yao Guanghao would be an accomplice.
"Ah... Autumn Wind! Long time no see!" Yao Guanghao said, his hand holding the cup trembling slightly as he stammered a greeting to Autumn Wind.
Autumn Wind nodded in response, "Yeah, I heard you're doing well!"
"Not really..." Yao Guanghao couldn't continue the conversation. "There's someone I know over there; I'll go say hi!" He quickly found an excuse to leave.
After Yao Guanghao left, the fish beside him let out a sigh, "Ah, that scared me to death!"
"What are you afraid of..." Autumn Wind really couldn't understand the fish's reaction.
Since they arrived too early, Media hadn't shown up yet, and there were no signs of big names like Qiu Ruolan or y(). So in front of the display board, only hk's own promotional staff were taking photos for some workers.
The fish pulled Autumn Wind to walk further back. "I just heard the staff say that Qiu Hai and Liu Jian are in the back!"
"What does that have to do with me!" Autumn Wind said dismissively. "They..." Before he could finish, he was stunned by the scene in front of him.
Qiu Hai and Liu Jian were engaged in a lively conversation, and beside them was a tall, handsome man with deep features.
After glancing at the man, Autumn Wind and the fish almost simultaneously shouted his name.
"Jak!"
That's right, the man was Jak, Chen Yuwei.
