In the following days, Autumn Wind's life gradually quieted down, with Qiu Hai, Liu Jian, Qiu Ruolan, and Huang Zihe no longer around her.
Amidst the tranquility, Yu wanted to visit her family whom she hadn't seen for many days. Ahe looked sorrowful as he sent them off.
Before getting into the car, Autumn Wind quietly asked, "About you and Ahe..."
What Autumn Wind saw was Yu's slightly pained expression. She smiled gently and said, "It's all in the past now!"
Oke suddenly widened his eyes. Autumn Wind reached out to stroke his chin and affectionately pressed her face against his forehead. The faint scent of milk from the baby touched Autumn Wind's nerves, reminding her that if there were no accidents, her own child would be crawling by now.
Suddenly, Oke made a sound; upon closer listening, he was actually murmuring, "Daddy, Daddy!"
Yu's face turned pale in an instant. Without saying a word, she hugged Oke and got into the car.
Autumn Wind clearly saw Yu's trembling shoulders.
Autumn Wind had deliberately arranged for Ahe to send Yu off, but Ahe shook his head sadly. A man over eight feet tall had tears in his eyes—pain that Autumn Wind could not comprehend.
The breath of spring grew stronger, and Autumn Wind began to enjoy standing on the balcony gazing into the distance. She noticed that someone had moved into the villa to the east and waved to Uncle Liu to visit.
Uncle Liu stepped out for a moment but hurried back. Seeing Uncle Liu's flustered expression, Autumn Wind frowned slightly and asked, "What’s wrong? Did something happen?"
"No, no, it's just..." Uncle Liu stammered, his words trailing off.
"But it’s fine..." she reassured him with a confirming look while lightly fiddling with her phone.
Uncle Liu sighed deeply and finally spoke again, "Next door is Liu Jian, Mr. Liu..."
Liu Jian? He moved next door? Calmly putting away his thoughts, he smiled coldly after a moment of contemplation, "I'll bring a gift and visit personally!"
Uncle Liu noticed Autumn Wind's unusual behavior but dared not say much, quickly heading downstairs to take care of things.
Autumn Wind returned to her room to change into a different outfit, with plum blossom patterns on the cuffs, delicate and pink. She tried to style her hair up several times but failed, so she simply let it down.
With a long sigh, she walked out of the villa, Uncle Liu following closely behind as they headed towards Liu Jian's new villa.
However, Autumn Wind quickly regretted it; the scene before her instantly shattered the cold demeanor she had worked so hard to maintain—Jolie was intimately leaning against Liu Jian, whispering something.
Liu Jian remained still, allowing Jolie to coil around him like a snake. Naturally, Jolie noticed Autumn Wind approaching and became even more agitated.
Though Liu Jian had his eyes closed, he was well aware that Jolie was acting this way to provoke him. The more he tried to ignore her, the more intense Jolie's actions became. Finally, he opened his eyes and abruptly turned around.
He found Autumn Wind standing behind him, looking at him with a half-smile.
The awkwardness was palpable. Liu Jian unceremoniously pushed Jolie away and quickly stepped in front of Autumn Wind. " Autumn Wind, so you came..."
Autumn Wind smiled sweetly at him, gesturing for Uncle Liu to present the gift. She lightly parted her lips, "I apologize for interrupting Mr. Liu's pleasant occasion; I feel quite guilty about it!"
This smile made cold sweat break out on Liu Jian's back and quickly spread to his forehead. When he rushed in front of Autumn Wind, he had already mentally prepared himself to accept her indifference, her disregard, and her anger. However, he did not expect that Autumn Wind would return his approach with a smile.
Looking at Liu Jian's unmoving body, Autumn Wind continued to smile lightly and said, "I came specifically to thank Mr. Liu for saving my life that day during your housewarming." Although she smiled, her tone was cold enough to deter anyone from getting close.
"Autumn Wind? You..." Liu Jian murmured her name softly, sadness spreading through him. The Autumn Wind before him bore no resemblance to the person she once was; she seemed like a venomous woman capable of killing with just a glance.
Jolie woke up from the shock of being pushed away by Liu Jian, glancing sideways at Autumn Wind. It was that damned woman again, so persistent and truly infuriating.
Swaying her body, she walked gracefully in front of Autumn Wind, arms crossed. "I heard you were kidnapped? I thought the news was just a publicity stunt for the concert," she said, her tone laced with provocation and a hint of arrogance.
Autumn Wind met Jolie's sharp gaze with confidence like never before, her voice crisp. "Sister Qiu, are you trying to take credit for me in front of President Liu?"
It was well known that this concert was one of the major investments by HK, and anyone who contributed to it would naturally be talked about.
Jolie found it hard to believe that Autumn Wind would act this way. She was eager to embarrass Autumn Wind in front of Liu Jian, her smile becoming more pronounced. "Sister Qiu is smiling. What have I done to deserve your praise? I’ve always heard about your close relationship with Huang Zihe; I didn’t expect any fans would dare to take such risks..."
"If you're complimenting my charm, then thank you in advance, Autumn Wind!" Autumn Wind interrupted Jolie, turning to Liu Jian and giving a slight bow, intending to leave.
However, Jolie jumped in front of her, blocking her path, arms spread wide. "Don't go. You need to clarify your relationship with Jaes..." She bent her arms and reached for Autumn Wind's shoulders.
Stepping back to evade Jolie, Autumn Wind's expression darkened as she raised her hand and slapped Jolie loudly. This was the third time Jolie had been slapped by Autumn Wind; unexpectedly, this time it was Autumn Wind who struck first.
Unfazed, Autumn Wind looked at Jolie and whispered, "Are you done causing a scene?"
Covering her cheek, Jolie was too furious to speak. After a moment of silence, she became agitated, her face flushed as she lunged at Autumn Wind like a mother wolf. But her hand was caught, and she began to howl, "Liu Jian, let me go..."
Halfway through her words, she stopped; it wasn’t Liu Jian holding her but Qiu Hai.
Qiu Hai’s lips were pressed into a thin line, his face filled with anger.
In an instant, Jolie's arrogance vanished completely as she lowered her head and covered her cheek.
The rapid changes left people speechless.
Autumn Wind had long sensed the abnormality between Jolie and Qiu Hai. It was truly puzzling how much Jolie feared her own brother.
The four of them stood quietly in place. Uncle Liu appeared before everyone after delivering the gifts to Liu Residence, quickly retreating behind Autumn Wind. "Sister, everything is ready!"
Autumn Wind swallowed hard, cleared her throat, and broke the silence first. "I'm leaving!" Without making eye contact with anyone, she turned and walked away.
As Autumn Wind brushed past Qiu Hai, Liu Jian suddenly moved, his lips trembling but no sound came out. He wanted to reach out to stop Autumn Wind, but his hand hung in the air before he helplessly let it drop.
Once Autumn Wind entered the courtyard, she immediately instructed Uncle Liu, "Close the door tightly; no one is allowed in." Striding toward the villa, Uncle Liu did not close the door but unusually followed closely behind Autumn Wind.
"Then what about Sister Jiang?" His voice was low, tinged with a hint of fear. Autumn Wind's demeanor today was shocking to him.
"Fish? What happened to her?"
"Sister, have you forgotten? Sister Jiang is supposed to come live with you starting today," he said, his voice carrying a trace of trepidation.
Autumn Wind made a sound and nodded lightly. "Yes, I understand! As for anyone else who comes, I just feel unwell and don't want to see anyone..."
With that, she lifted her leg to go upstairs but paused again on the staircase, looking down at Uncle Liu. "Uncle Liu, please help me find some information about Jolie and Qiu Hai's siblings!"
Chapter Two Hundred Seventy-Nine
Jolie's fear of Qiu Hai was not simply due to having done something wrong; it was a fear that seeped from her bones.
"Yes..." Uncle Liu replied, watching Autumn Wind return to her room.
When she woke up, it was already evening. The light had dimmed, and through a corner of the curtain, she could vaguely sense a faint glow from Qiu Hai's room across the way. There were faint sounds of conversation coming from the door.
It was Sister Liu who had finished dinner and wanted to knock on the door, but everyone stopped her. "Sister is in a bad mood; don't disturb her..."
"Oh, then when she gets up, I'll help her cook again!"
"Shh, don't wake her up..."
Everyone noticed that ever since Autumn Wind attended Qiu Ruolan's birthday party, she had changed completely. Footsteps echoed in the stairwell, followed by another silence.
Autumn Wind lay in bed, her mind blank. After several days, the pain in her ankles from being chained had subsided, and her groggy head was slowly regaining clarity. At this moment, the topic she was reluctant to face surged back into her mind: would this be the end of the war with Qiu Ruolan?
Lost in thought, there was another commotion in the courtyard. Had something happened again? She sprang up from bed, pulled back the curtains to look outside, and saw a vehicle approaching.
The night enveloped her somewhat dirty car—that was the one she had gotten after divorcing Xu Zhongyao. It was clear that the car was loaded with quite a few things. Awei and Uncle Liu walked ahead while Ahe followed slowly behind. As everyone tried to help Yu carry things, she waved her hand and said, "Not cleaning up today; let's wait until tomorrow..." She picked up Oke and looked around. "Where's Autumn Wind? Why haven't I seen her?"
"She's sleeping!" Uncle Liu answered softly.
Yu said nothing more; she casually glanced at Ahe and then walked toward the villa.
Footsteps sounded outside—rhythmic clicks of high heels that could only belong to Yu. She paced back and forth at the door a few times before finally disappearing.
Autumn Wind smiled slightly; Yu must have something to discuss with her.
Liu Jiajia's phone call came quietly. "Wendy, Sister Sally has an event tomorrow to support children with leukemia. Do you want to join?"
Was this call arranged by Qiu Ruolan? After a moment of contemplation, she softly replied, "Sure, send me the time and location!"
"You, you..." Liu Jiajia's voice choked as she hesitated.
"What's wrong?" Autumn Wind asked in return.
A gentle inhalation was heard. "Wendy, even though Sister Sally asked me to call you, I think if you come, it would be better to keep a low profile, or..."
Autumn Wind sensed Liu Jiajia's concerns and smiled lightly. "Don't worry, I know how to handle myself... I'll do my job as an assistant well!"
Suppressing a smile, was this an old hint?
Ignoring it further, amidst the hustle and bustle outside the door, Autumn Wind pulled the blanket over her head. The phone within her sight lit up for a moment; before the ringtone could sound, it dimmed again.
Qiu Hai's number appeared on the screen...
A piercing pain shot up her spine, making it impossible not to think of him. Qiu Mowen's shadow slowly revealed Qiu Hai's face. Autumn Wind knew that this kind of love had become as deeply rooted as her hatred for Qiu Ruolan—inescapable and profound.
