After finishing breakfast, Autumn Wind instructed Uncle Liu to call the guards and to not stop Qiu Feng if she arrived.
She then returned to her room to carefully prepare herself, quietly waiting for Qiu Feng's arrival.
As soon as the taxi carrying Qiu Feng stopped at the door, Autumn Wind stepped forward to greet her, affectionately taking her hand, with countless words stuck in her throat. Qiu Feng gently patted Autumn Wind's back and whispered, "I'm so glad to see you're okay!"
While the two exchanged pleasantries, the iron gate beside them was opened.
Liu Jian's car slowly drove out of the courtyard. Upon seeing Autumn Wind and Qiu Feng, he stopped and rolled down the window.
Liu Jian's sharp gaze fixed on Qiu Feng for a moment; his throat moved as if he wanted to say something but ultimately remained silent.
At this moment, Qiu Feng's face had turned pale. Autumn Wind noticed the change in Qiu Feng and thought it might be due to resentment towards Liu Jian over the loan issue from last time.
So she gently tugged at Qiu Feng's sleeve, signaling her to follow her home. However, Qiu Feng remained motionless, her pale face showing signs of confusion.
Just then, Old Li walked out behind the car. Upon seeing Autumn Wind, he respectfully bowed.
Liu Jian withdrew his gaze from Qiu Feng and gave a meaningful look to Autumn Wind before honking the horn and driving away.
Old Li watched Liu Jian leave, then pushed open the courtyard gate and closed it behind him.
Autumn Wind took a deep breath and instructed Uncle Liu to pay the taxi fare while she led Qiu Feng into the villa.
Inside the villa, Oke was running around chasing a toy car and bumped into Autumn Wind's leg without crying, instead giggling nonstop. Seeing guests arrive, Sister Liu quickly came over and picked up Oke.
Autumn Wind dared not look back at Qiu Feng's expression; she knew it would remind her of Yusha.
"He is the child of the fish, right?" Qiu Feng's clear voice rang out behind Autumn Wind. The tone was crisp, devoid of any sadness. Autumn Wind mustered the courage to turn around, nodded gently, and gestured for Qiu Feng to take a seat on the sofa.
Compared to Qiu Ruolan's birthday, Qiu Feng's complexion was much rosier, though her hands remained thin. After staring at Autumn Wind for a while, she began to scan the entire room. "Is this Sister Shali's house? Does she live here regularly?" She asked about the house in a casual manner, trying to maintain a calm tone, but Autumn Wind could still sense the faint sadness in Qiu Feng's voice.
Holding her veined hand, Autumn Wind spoke hoarsely, "How have you been lately?"
Qiu Feng nodded lightly. "Still the same as before. What else could it be? I heard you went to be Sister Shali's assistant. So, are you addicted to being an assistant now?" Qiu Feng smiled, but her eyes held a teasing glint.
Autumn Wind responded with a dry laugh, and then both fell silent, creating an awkward atmosphere. Autumn Wind shifted her body side to side, searching for the next topic of conversation when she noticed a gift box on the table.
"These are gifts for Phoebe from me," she started, but as soon as she mentioned Phoebe's name, Yusha's image flashed before her eyes, and she had to stop herself from continuing.
Qiu Feng looked relieved and gently patted Autumn Wind's hand. "Everything has passed; don't be like this. I will feel bad too!" She lifted her head and gazed at Autumn Wind.
Qiu Feng scrutinized Autumn Wind closely. After all the so-called storms she had weathered, this woman was even more beautiful than before. Her beauty was not just youthful charm but also carried an air of elegance and dignity, exuding an alluring charisma.
Even Qiu Hai and Huang Zihe were rumored to have fallen at her feet; Autumn Wind was no longer the naive girl she once was.
With a hint of mischief, Qiu Feng smiled lightly. "How are things with Liu Jian? Wasn't he living next door to you just now?" She looked up at Autumn Wind, hoping she would shrug it off like before.
However, Autumn Wind's response surprised her; she simply smiled faintly and said, "It's all over now; what needed to end has ended!"
Qiu Feng tried to poke at Autumn Wind's wounds again. "It's over? But you broke his child; how can it just end like that?"
What she saw was still Autumn Wind's calm smile, light as a cloud without a trace of sadness. Her voice came softly, "Ending is actually a kind of relief; otherwise, constantly worrying about someone causing trouble is exhausting. This way is better!"
Autumn Wind squinted her eyes and looked at Qiu Feng with a slight smile, her expression calm.
Autumn Wind had other thoughts about Qiu Feng's words; she noticed that each of Qiu Feng's recent questions seemed deliberately aimed at her heart. She wanted to evoke the same sadness in others as Qiu Feng did, but despite opening her mouth, she couldn't bring herself to speak.
For a while afterward, the two exchanged playful banter.
Autumn Wind felt a sense of nostalgia, realizing that the beautiful moments of the past could never be reclaimed.
At noon, Qiu Feng decided to leave. Autumn Wind repeatedly urged her to stay, but she only responded with a smile. So, she instructed Uncle Liu to drive Qiu Feng away, personally stuffing the gift for Phoebe into the car and waving goodbye to Qiu Feng.
As Qiu Feng sat in the car, a surge of complex emotions welled up inside her. After Uncle Liu started the car, she withdrew her gaze from Autumn Wind's face and fixed it firmly on the villa where Liu Jian lived.
How could Liu Jian be living in that villa? Damn it! I still have things left inside! Thinking of this, Qiu Feng clenched her fists, her beautifully manicured long nails digging into her palm.
To express her sincerity, Autumn Wind followed the car all the way to the door, waving exaggeratedly to bid farewell to Qiu Feng.
She stood on the flat road in front of the door and only decided to go home after the car completely disappeared from view.
Just as she was about to turn around, she saw Old Li holding a black bag. He cautiously opened the door and, upon seeing Autumn Wind standing not far away, nervously hid the bag behind him but still remembered to bow and say, “Sister Qiufeng, hello!”
His actions were too suspicious, so Autumn Wind went straight up to Old Li. “Old Li, what do you have in your hand?”
“Ah! Nothing, nothing at all!” Old Li tightened his grip on the hand behind his back and dared not look directly at Autumn Wind.
“Don't lie to me!” Autumn Wind had already reached in front of Old Li. She pointed at him with her finger. “Are you really not hiding anything?”
"No, really not!"
"Oh, then I'll leave!" Autumn Wind shrugged helplessly and pretended to turn around.
Hearing that Autumn Wind was about to leave, Old Li softly sighed, "Sister Qiufeng, take care," but before he could finish, Autumn Wind had already circled behind Old Li, swiftly grabbed the black bag, and opened it. Inside was a telescope and a strangely shaped mobile phone, both covered in a thin layer of dust.
"Sister Qiufeng, this is definitely not my young master's! He wouldn't do anything like spying!" Old Li explained anxiously.
Spying? The word slapped Autumn Wind in the face, causing her cheeks to flush. "No way!" In the meantime, Autumn Wind had already turned on the phone by pressing the power button. An old startup ringtone echoed; this phone must have been around for quite some time.
While waiting for the phone to return to normal functionality, Autumn Wind began fiddling with the telescope. Its quality was much better than the one Sister Liu had bought for her. What were these things used for? Why were they in that villa? Autumn Wind thought uneasily.
"Where did you find this?" Autumn Wind pressed Old Li.
Fearing that Autumn Wind might misunderstand Liu Jian, Old Li wanted to continue explaining but didn't know if he should speak. Hearing Autumn Wind's question, he replied, "Yes, yes, this was found behind the cabinet in that room on the second floor!" Old Li pointed upstairs. "It's the one with the window facing us."
Afraid that Autumn Wind would suspect something, Old Li continued to add, "I was tidying up the room because a few maids are coming over. When I moved the cabinet, I discovered this! This really isn't my young master's!"
Autumn Wind smiled lightly; of course, this wouldn't belong to Liu Jian. Liu Jian had a bit of a cleanliness obsession; he wouldn't allow his belongings to be so dirty. The phone had regained its functionality, and Autumn Wind began to fiddle with it. She opened the contacts list and two numbers jumped into her view. Isn't this my phone number? And this number—wasn't it the previous landline of the villa?
Could it be that this was someone’s tool for monitoring me? Realizing this, Autumn Wind's hair stood on end. The elderly voice she had heard earlier made her dare not think further. She stumbled back a step and nearly fell.
"Sister Qiu! Sister Qiu! What's wrong with you?" Old Li was closely watching Autumn Wind when he suddenly saw her start to retreat and hurriedly asked.
"I'm fine, I'm fine!" Afraid that Old Li would discover her abnormality, Autumn Wind quickly regained her composure. She calmly placed the phone and telescope back into the bag. "It's nothing; just an ordinary phone and telescope! Why are you so flustered?"
"I, Sister Qiu, am really afraid you might misunderstand my young master, he sighs!" Old Li frowned, deep lines appearing on his face. "As a servant, I shouldn't speak ill of my master, but I really don't like that Jolie. Sister Qiufeng, is it really impossible for you and the young master?"
Old Li's tone was sincere, and even Autumn Wind felt a bit embarrassed. In the entanglement between herself and Liu Jian, who wronged whom no longer mattered; what was important was that Autumn Wind could no longer bear the torment within.
"It won't happen, don't worry! I still have some trust in this matter. Liu Jian is not that kind of person!" Liu Jian indeed would not be shameless like herself. She put on a sincere expression as she looked at Old Li. "What do you plan to do with these things?"
"I haven't thought about it yet; it just so happened that you ran into me when I stepped out!" Autumn Wind's words made Old Li very happy as he welcomed her sincere gaze.
Autumn Wind bit her lower lip. "If you don't mind, can I take it? I need to check who the owner of this phone is," she thought to herself.
Ah, it turns out Sister Qiufeng is still suspicious of the young master. Old Li sighed helplessly upon hearing Autumn Wind's words, but he couldn't do anything else and nodded lightly. "Okay! Sister Qiufeng, handle it however you want!"
With Old Li's affirmation, Autumn Wind clutched the bag tightly in her hand.
At that moment, Oke pushed open the door and stumbled into the courtyard. Seeing Autumn Wind standing at the entrance, she giggled, "Auntie, Auntie, come play with me!" she called out in a childish voice.
Sister Liu followed closely behind, worried that Oke might fall. As Oke shouted for Autumn Wind, she looked up at her as well.
Autumn Wind smiled gently, nodded at Old Li, and walked into the courtyard with the black bag. She handed it to Sister Liu to take back to her room while she stood behind Oke, watching her continue to play in the sand. (To be continued.)
