Returning from the Yumiang family, Xiao Lihua noticed it was getting late and thought about making dinner. She went to the backyard and spotted String Beans among the vegetables, thinking of making steamed cakes with them.
First, she prepared the dough, then took a basket to pick the String Beans. After picking them, she chopped them into pieces right there in the field and then went to cook.
Once she placed the dough on top of the String Beans and covered it with a lid, Xiao Lihua went to the yard to collect the quilt that had been drying in the sun. She spread it out on the heated bed to cool down and lit some mosquito repellent incense. Sitting in the outer room, she began making shoes since autumn was approaching and the children needed cloth shoes. However, after this summer, the shoes from spring could no longer be worn, so new ones had to be made.
"Wife, I'm back!" Xie Youshun shouted from outside the door. Xiao Lihua hurried to open the door and saw him sweating. She said, "Quickly wash your face and wipe off your sweat before you wash up."
"I know," Xie Youshun replied with a smile. Seeing his wife's fair face, he leaned in to give her a kiss. When he noticed Xiao Lihua glancing at him sideways, he laughed and said, "Wife, are those two kids not home? Let me kiss you a few more times."

Xie Youshun replied, "No one can see; I'm tall, and anyone behind me can't see you."
"Always talking nonsense. Go wash your face; dinner will be ready soon. I'm making steamed cakes with String Beans, and I'll mix some cucumber strips later and slice two Pickled Eggs. That should be enough."
"Alright! Sounds good!" Xie Youshun said with a smile; he loved whatever his wife made.
"Hey! Hey, wife! Come out for a moment and help calm down the two kids!" An older voice called from outside; it was Simpleton, accompanied by a child's crying—specifically Little Wood's cries.
Both Xie Youshun and Xiao Lihua heard it and quickly ran to the door. They opened it to find Simpleton holding Little Wood in his arms while holding onto Stone with his other hand.
Tears were streaming down Little Wood's face as Simpleton tried to comfort him. Little Stone was also tugging at Little Wood's leg, trying to soothe him by saying not to be afraid and that their father would scold their aunt. As soon as they saw their parents, both children rushed over with outstretched arms calling for their parents while sobbing.
Xiao Lihua felt heartbroken as she touched Little Stone's head and asked what was wrong. She then looked at Xie Youshun holding Little Wood and saw blood on Little Wood's small hand that was clutching Xie Youshun. Her heart ached even more. Just as she was about to speak, she heard Little Stone let out a soft cry and immediately lowered her head to check his neck, where she found a bloody mark. Her eyes were nearly red with tears. Little Wood's injury could be attributed to his own playfulness, but what had happened to Little Stone?
Xie Youshun also noticed and asked Simpleton where he had brought the two children from. Had they gotten into a fight? He felt some anger rising within him; both of his sons were well-behaved and would never fight without reason. If they had fought, there must have been a reason behind it. He thought this might just be children's roughhousing, and while he couldn't hold it against them, he needed to understand the whole story.
Simpleton was equally furious and said, "I won't hide it from you; this matter cannot be concealed! Both children were hurt because of Ruyi! That Ruyi has gone mad or something; she hit the two kids with a branch and even tried to throw them into the river! She's really lost it! These are her nephews! You have treated her well; how could she do this? She must be insane!"
Xie Youshun found it hard to believe that his sister could commit such a heinous act.
Seeing Xie Youshun's expression, Simpleton continued, "I knew you wouldn't believe me. If I hadn't seen it myself, I wouldn't believe it either. What kind of aunt treats her nephews like this? You haven't done anything wrong to her. But she ran away when she saw me. I couldn't chase after her while looking after the two kids. You should ask them if Ruyi wanted to harm them."
Xiao Lihua immediately asked the two children. Little Wood was crying so hard he was hiccupping but nodded his head. Little Stone said, "It was Auntie; she scolded us, calling us little bastards, saying we were born from our mother, claiming that our mother loved us and that if we died, it would make our mother sad, saying our mother was the one who harmed her."
Little Stone spoke in broken sentences but made himself clear, causing both Xie Youshun and Xiao Lihua to become furious.
Xie Youshun said to Simpleton, "Thank you for today, Simpleton. I will definitely come by to thank you another day! But I have matters to attend to now." After saying this, Xie Youshun took Little Wood in his arms and headed towards the Xie Family Old Residence. He needed to confront Ruyi; he believed he had fulfilled his responsibilities as an elder brother and that his wife had treated Ruyi well.
