Upon arriving at her master's serene courtyard, she found her master already waiting at the entrance, as if he had anticipated her arrival.
Before Shangguan Ying'er could speak, her master said, "The Sect Leader is looking for you. Come with me!"
"Master, what is it about?" Shangguan Ying'er asked, puzzled as she followed her master along the path.
"You know Ling Mo Xie, right?" Her master paused slightly at her question and turned to ask.
"Yes? What happened? Did something happen to him?" Hearing her master mention Ling Mo Xie, Shangguan Ying'er was taken aback and spoke with a hint of urgency.
Her master glanced at her skeptically before slowly saying, "What could happen to him? Recently, he has become quite famous in our southeastern region. Not only has he received praise from the leader of the Daoist sect, but he has also been awarded the Dao Token. He is truly riding high!"
"Is that so?" Upon hearing her master's words, Shangguan Ying'er looked somewhat stunned and then sighed, realizing that despite being a direct disciple of one of the three major sects of the State of Youyun, she still couldn't compare to him!
"Let's go. This matter seems to be related to him as well."
Shangguan Ying'er listened and, though she was filled with curiosity, quickened her pace to follow her master into the main hall of the Azure Emperor Sect.
"Junior Sister, you've arrived!" The Sect Leader, dressed simply in blue robes and seated high above, greeted Shangguan Ying'er's master with a smile as he stood up.
"Yes! Just tell me what it is. Don't think about sending my disciple on any dangerous missions!" Shangguan Ying'er's master was not one to give face to the Sect Leader; he spoke coldly with a hint of warning in his tone.
The Sect Leader was unfazed and smiled back. He had long since grown accustomed to Shangguan Ying'er's master's temperament and did not take offense. He got straight to the point without beating around the bush.
"You've heard about Ling Mo Xie, who has been making waves lately, right? I heard that Ying'er has some connections with him?"
"Yes! Master, what is it?" Shangguan Ying'er asked eagerly, realizing it was indeed about Ling Mo Xie.
Hearing Shangguan Ying'er's affirmative response, the Sect Leader's smile brightened even more, but he did not directly answer her question. Instead, he said, "Ying'er, since you've returned, your training should be coming to a close. Would you like to go out for a bit?"
Shangguan Ying'er smiled helplessly at the Sect Leader's words. She glanced at her master, maintaining a dignified smile, and said, "Master, if you have something to say, please just say it directly. Otherwise, my master might get angry!"
"Ahem!" The Sect Leader glanced at Shangguan Ying'er's master and seemed to ponder something before nodding and saying, "Alright, I'll be straightforward. I see that Ling Mo Xie is quite the talented young man. Such a genius is not something our Azure Emperor Sect lacks vision for; naturally, we should extend an olive branch. "Not much, really. Just go back to Ling Mo Xie's side and try to win him over. It would be great if he could join our Azure Emperor Sect!" the Sect Leader explained to Shangguan Ying'er.
Shangguan Ying'er furrowed her brows. Winning him over? Sigh! For some reason, she felt uneasy about it and was not happy.
In the past, she had befriended him solely because of his Alchemy skills without any ulterior motives; it felt comfortable that way. If she were now trying to befriend him just to win him over, it felt very awkward.
