"Ugh..."
A wave of intense nausea surged within me, accompanied by anger that nearly made me vomit. I struggled desperately, wanting to escape from this place, but my body was completely out of control, held firmly in place by the swaddling.
At that moment, someone else came to hold me down and forced another bowl of foul-smelling liquid into my mouth...
"Don't, please don't..."
I fought with all my might, but it was futile; the liquid flowed down my throat and into my stomach. As the last remnants of consciousness faded away, I fell once again into that endless darkness...
Chapter Six
After a long time, I slowly opened my eyes and was immediately stunned.
Where am I?
I found myself crouching alone in a dimly lit forest.
The scene before me felt very wrong; this was not an ordinary forest. It was dark and silent, devoid of birdsong or the chirping of insects; even the air felt unreal.
I crouched on the ground, staring at a tree in front of me. Its bark was deeply grooved and cracked in several places, with what seemed to be liquid seeping out; I could even see the milky-white sap.
Scattered at my feet were fallen leaves, and I could clearly make out the veins on them.
Everything appeared unnaturally vivid.
"What on earth is happening?"
I murmured softly, glancing around and realizing there was no one else here besides me.
I slowly stood up, stepping on the leaves beneath me; they crunched softly underfoot, their sound particularly pronounced in the stillness of the forest.
This is all so strange; how can I see such clear details?
It felt as if my eyes had night vision capabilities—though it was dim, I could see many things clearly.
However, scientifically speaking, one cannot see in dark environments; even if I adapted to the darkness, I should only be able to make out some outlines—not see everything so distinctly.
I looked up through the layers of branches and saw the mottled moonlight filtering down.
That's not right; this isn't normal.
I lowered my head and looked around. The trees were dense, their canopies large. Logically, the moonlight should have a hard time filtering through the leaves, yet I could clearly see the moon.
It was as if a beam of light was shining directly on it.
I looked ahead; even though my feet weren't touching the ground in front of me, I could feel the gravel and weeds beneath me.
My feet could even sense the hardness of the gravel and the softness of the weeds.
I crouched down and looked at the tree trunk in front of me.
It was rough but very moist.
I was certain of that.
But this shouldn't be something my eyes could perceive; it was a sense of touch.
I could feel the roughness of the bark and the moisture of the sap, not through my hands, but through my mind.
It was as if... I had personally touched it.
But how could that be? I had merely glanced at it.
Suddenly, a scream shattered the tranquility of the woods.
My heart raced, and I immediately crouched down, cautiously moving toward the direction of the sound.
There were people ahead.
I advanced slowly and finally hid behind a tree, carefully peeking out.
In front of me was a group of armored soldiers holding torches, surrounding several individuals.
Upon closer inspection, I found that those surrounded were dressed in traditional ethnic clothing.
Their eyes were strange; their pupils were not black but gray, and there was no white part to their eyes, making them look quite eerie.
Their eyes were hollow and devoid of spirit, like... those of blind people.
