Forget it, let's just wait and see for now.
I bit my lip and continued to observe the situation.
The general, seeing that the minority group remained silent, was instantly enraged. A glint of murderous intent flashed in his eyes as he shouted, "Since you refuse to speak, don't blame me for being rude!"
With that, he raised the knife in his hand and gestured towards the woman's head on the ground.
The black man suddenly stood up and let out a loud roar.
He was likely speaking in the language of the minority group; I couldn't understand what he said, but from his furious tone, it was clear he was speaking words of resistance.
The general shot him a glance, sneered, and then without hesitation swung down the knife in his hand.
A flash of cold light passed by, and the woman on the ground fell silently.
"Ah!"
I gasped in shock, instinctively covering my mouth, my eyes filled with terror.
That man...
That man actually killed that woman!
I trembled all over, pressing my body tightly against the tree trunk, my heart pounding wildly.
Hearing the sound, the general suddenly turned his head, his sharp gaze piercing straight at me.
I jumped in fright and immediately crouched down, holding my breath and daring not to move.
The soldiers heard the noise and quickly turned around, running towards me with their torches raised.
The light from the torches flickered among the shadows of the trees, casting their silhouettes that danced continuously.
I pressed myself tightly against the tree trunk, trembling uncontrollably, my palms drenched in cold sweat. I had no time to think; I scrambled to my feet and turned to run.
I crouched low.
Branches swayed, leaves rustled incessantly, and the fallen leaves on the ground crunched underfoot.
My heart raced to my throat, fearing that those soldiers would discover me.
Suddenly, a roar came from ahead; I froze for a moment and quickly looked up in the direction of the sound.
I saw that the black man had somehow stood up; he rushed towards the general and collided forcefully with him.
The general was caught off guard and stumbled when he collided with him, causing the book in his hand to fly out. As the book flew away, the burly man reached out and grabbed it. However, the general was not one to back down easily and did not let go. The two of them tugged at the book until it was torn in half. The burly man held onto the larger half while the general tightly clutched the smaller half.
"Scoundrel!"
The general shouted in fury, raising his broken blade and swinging it at the burly man. The burly man snorted coldly, glaring at the general without fear, then threw the half of the book he held towards me. I was taken aback and instinctively reached out to catch it.
"You're asking for death!"
The general's eyes turned red with rage as he yelled, bringing his blade down fiercely on the burly man's body. Blood splattered everywhere as the burly man collapsed into a pool of blood. I trembled all over, my eyes wide in disbelief at what was unfolding before me. The burly man used his last bit of strength to shout at me before slowly closing his eyes.
"No... don't..."
My eyes reddened, and tears streamed down my face uncontrollably.
"There!"
The soldiers spotted me and immediately shouted, brandishing their torches as they chased after me. I had no time to think; gripping the book tightly, I turned and ran into the dark woods. The soldiers followed closely behind, shouting and cursing, their torches flickering in the trees like the eyes of monsters. I dared not look back and ran desperately forward, branches and leaves scratching my face, but I paid no attention to it. I had to get away from here quickly!
