Never Enter the Elevator 23: Digging Out Eyes

The space in this corridor is low, with the ceiling almost brushing against my scalp. There is a door on the side wall, and the musty smell in the air becomes more pungent, even carrying a hint of decay. I furrow my brow, pondering the strangeness of this place. 0

I continue forward and suddenly kick something. It emits a crisp sound, and I lower my head to take a look, discovering it is a candlestick. I crouch down, pick up the candlestick, and use my lighter to ignite the candle. The flickering flame illuminates a small area around me. 0

I glance around and see no windows or doors; I estimate that I must be underground now. Observing my surroundings more closely, I realize that I am in what seems to be a secret chamber. Thick stone walls surround me, with no windows or doors in sight, only a solitary candlestick resting on the ground. 0

I take a deep breath, trying to calm myself. No matter what this place is, since I'm here, I need to uncover the truth. I pick up the candlestick and continue searching for clues in the chamber. 0

I find many strange items in this secret room—some tools whose purposes I cannot discern, along with odd patterns and symbols. I study these patterns and symbols carefully, hoping to find some clues. However, everything feels foreign to me; I can't make any sense of it. 0

In the darkness, there is nothing I can do but hold my breath and wait for the footsteps to draw closer. I've never been this tense before. Once, back at home, I encountered a wolf in the middle of the night. At that time, I stood my ground with a flashlight for half an hour. Although I was scared then, it was nothing compared to how anxious I feel now. 0

I step back cautiously, trying to press my body against the wall, careful not to make a sound. My palms are already slick with sweat, and my heart is racing wildly in my chest. I grit my teeth, holding my breath as much as possible, trying to blend into the surrounding darkness. 0

Suddenly, my elbow bumped into something. I turned my head and reached out to touch it. It turned out to be a door by the wall. I gently pushed it, and to my surprise, the door opened! A surge of joy filled my heart as I quickly slipped inside and crouched down, using all my strength to brace my body against the door. This way, the person outside shouldn't be able to see me. 0

The door was held in place by my body, so it wouldn't move at all, but the sound of friction was very faint, almost inaudible. In this nearly enclosed environment, my heartbeat became particularly pronounced. One beat, two beats, three beats... 0

The footsteps were getting closer. I could tell that the person was now no more than five meters away from me! If they took a few more steps forward, they might just see me! 0

Thinking of this made my nerves even more tense. Listening to the sounds outside, my blood ran cold; every inch of my skin felt the chill of fear as I pressed myself tightly against the door, not daring to move. 0

The footsteps were slow and light, the sound of polished shoes striking the ground crisp and clear. It grew louder as it approached, finally stopping right at my door. 0

"Kid, you finally woke up," the voice said, low and eerie, as if it were coming from hell itself. It sent chills down my spine and made my body tremble uncontrollably. 0

"This is good too; maybe if you stay alive while I dig your eyes out, the ritual will have a better effect. Hahaha..." 0
