Desolate! This is Bai Tang's impression after passing through the second time-space gate. There is no water, no trees, no flowers or grass, no birds or beasts, no houses, and certainly no humans... except for Bai Tang. Using the skill "Traveling Thousands of Miles," Bai Tang traveled around the entire planet in three hours but did not see a single person. If it weren't for the atmosphere enveloping the planet, Bai Tang would have thought she had arrived on the Moon or Mars instead of Earth. However, the glaring words "Earth" from the system disappointed her; this was indeed Earth, but it was not the Earth she knew—it was a deserted Earth. Bai Tang had no idea what had happened to Earth or where all the people who once lived here had gone (apocalypse? extinction?), and she felt like crying. There wasn't even a shadow of a person left; what was she supposed to do? Without selling goods as a smuggler, staying alone on this abandoned planet made Bai Tang fear she might go insane.
"Sigh—" Bai Tang sat down against a large rock and took out some food from her backpack to eat. Fortunately, she had her backpack and gang base, which stored food and water; otherwise, even if a Cultivator could survive without food, she wouldn't last long without water.
The glaring sun shone down on her head. Bai Tang made a gesture, and a transparent aura enveloped her, blocking the scorching rays. The sunlight was extremely harsh; when she first arrived, Bai Tang didn't pay attention and ended up getting sunburned and suffering from heat toxicity all night. After that, Bai Tang dared not ignore the hidden dangers in her environment and constantly applied protective skills.
Once again sighing, Bai Tang realized that the number of times she sighed in these three hours matched the total number of times she had sighed in the past twenty years.
"I want to go home!" Bai Tang shouted into the void, but unfortunately, there was no response. The energy recovery speed of the second time-space gate was maddeningly slow; after calculating, Bai Tang realized that if she stayed on this desolate planet for two years, only then would the energy gauge of the time-space gate be full.
Two years? Bai Tang knelt before the time-space gate; she couldn't endure two months, let alone two years! She would truly go insane.
Bai Tang recalled a comic from a neon country that she had read before; it seemed to be called "Earth Guardian": seven alien scientists established a base on the Moon to observe and protect Earth. A plague erupted on their home planet, killing everyone except for those seven who were far away from their home planet. However, the plague did not spare them either; one by one they died until only three remained, including their doctor. When the doctor finally developed a vaccine, only three people were left. The doctor and the male protagonist both liked the female protagonist; out of revenge against the male protagonist, the doctor injected the vaccine into him while he and the female protagonist subsequently died. The male protagonist kept living on desolate Earth for year after year with the female protagonist's dying words: "Don't commit suicide; protect Earth." After nine long years, when he finally could die, his mind had already become unstable...
Bai Tang used to sympathize with the male protagonist; now she felt even more sympathy for herself—she did not want to become a second male protagonist.
She needed to quickly find useful energy to recharge the time-space gate; there was too little free energy in the air. She didn't want to spend two full years waiting to go home and worry her parents. Hearing that their daughter was going to an unknown world beyond the second gate, Bai Dad and Bai Mom were always worried—who knew what unknown dangers lurked in that world! Bai Tang had said enough good things to ease their worries; if they knew about her current situation, they would surely be heartbroken.
"System, give me a hint! You didn't bring me here just to make me a space version of Robinson Crusoe? I'm going crazy; that wouldn't be good for you either!" Bai Tang summoned the game panel and poked at it repeatedly with her finger, but unfortunately, there was not even a peep of response from the system.
A glimmer caught Bai Tang's eye as she curiously walked over and saw something metallic peeking out from beneath the sand-covered ground. Squatting down, Bai Tang tried to pick it up but found that it wasn't as big as it appeared; it seemed quite large and was completely buried under sand.
Rubbing her chin thoughtfully, Bai Tang took out a cup of tea and took a sip. After returning her teacup to her gang base, she pulled out a shovel from inside and bent down to start digging!
The object buried in the sand was larger than Bai Tang had anticipated. She quickened her digging speed; after ten minutes of work, Bai Tang dug out a large pit revealing a red vehicle inside—a model resembling Maserati's most dazzling sports car but without wheels. From what she could see from outside looking in, it appeared to be a hovercar.
Touching this vehicle whose material she couldn't identify made Bai Tang think that she might have arrived in a future world! Perhaps humans on Earth hadn't gone extinct but had entered an interstellar age—migrating with space fortresses to more habitable star systems since this Earth's environment was simply too poor for human survival.
She wondered if she could dig up a spaceship to take herself away from Earth in search of humanity. Bai Tang thought whimsically. Next, her aimless wandering turned into purposeful searching. The thick layer of sand covering Earth hid many abandoned scraps—garbage for future Earthlings but treasures for Bai Tang! Just like that hovercar: although it couldn't move anymore, its design would surely attract many buyers online. Should she change her online store's style or open another one specifically selling these future-world scraps? Bai Tang contemplated seriously.
The treasure (garbage) hunting yielded rich rewards—from wrist communicators to satellite launch pads—but unfortunately no spaceships were found. What made Bai Tang happiest was finding a household robot with a round head and body that looked very cute and interesting. Even better was that there was still some energy left inside it; when she accidentally pressed its activation button, this robot—buried for who knows how many years—actually powered on!
"Hello, Master, Home Robot jk87651 reporting for duty!" The mechanical synthesized voice sounded.
"jk87651? Don't you have another name?" Calling jk87651 is quite a mouthful!
"My previous master didn't give me a name!" Bai Tang surprisingly felt a sense of loss from the mechanical voice coming from the tablet.
Bai Tang patted the Robot's smooth head: "Then let's give you a name from now on!"
The two bulb-like eyes flashed brightly, clearly expressing its happiness: "I have a name now, I have a name now, thank you, Master!"
Once Bai Tang let it enjoy its excitement, she asked, "Can you tell me about the history of Earth? Also, where did all the people on Earth go?"
"The energy on Earth has been exhausted; the remaining people all migrated to other planets aboard the newly constructed Ark..." It began to recount Earth's history to Bai Tang, of course focusing on modern history. Events from 2015 and beyond were over a thousand years old and not well understood. Bai Tang learned that she was living over two thousand years later, in an era where Earth's technology had reached the interstellar age. Not only had humans made contact with extraterrestrial beings from Galaxy, but they had also engaged in interstellar wars with some malicious aliens. Due to these wars, Earth's resources were nearly depleted, and the environment became increasingly inhospitable for survival. Fortunately, the government sent explorers to other planets and discovered a resource-rich primitive planet near Centaurus, which was very suitable for human habitation. Thus, the government implemented a migration plan to relocate all Earth inhabitants to the new planet—Blue Star. To add, two thousand years later, there was only one regime left on Earth, known as the Earth Federation. Regardless of whether they were Asian, European, or African, they all shared one name: "Earthlings."
"What about Mecha? Aren't there any Mecha in this era?" Bai Tang pressed on; isn't Mecha the most representative feature of the Future World?
Shaking its round head: "There are no Mecha. Scientists haven't developed them yet."
"You must have been inactive for a long time. It's possible that people have already researched them by now." Bai Tang glanced around at the dreary environment. "Before your previous master left, Earth wasn't like this, right?"
"Of course not!" it denied. "Although the environment on Earth used to be bad, it was much more beautiful than now. There were tall buildings; now, there’s nothing left."
Its eyes were filled with confusion.
Bai Tang tapped its round head: "Well, just look at how long you've been asleep; Earth has been buried under sand. Those buildings must have turned to sand."
With puzzled bulb-like eyes flashing: "How many years has it been?"
"At least a thousand years!" Bai Tang estimated.
"It's been so long!" Panicked, the two wheels representing legs spun around Bai Tang, "So, does that mean I've been eliminated? Master, Master, you won't abandon me, right?"
"Don't worry, I will never give up on you! By the way, can you take care of children?"
Proudly puffing out its chest, it replied, "I am the most qualified Home Robot. Whether it's a newborn baby or a child over ten years old, I can take care of them."
"That's great! I have two children at home, so you'll be taking care of them from now on."
"Understood!" it answered happily. It had a mission now and didn't have to worry about being abandoned by its master. How wonderful!
After the excitement faded, the Robot remembered a practical issue and hesitantly spoke up, "Master, my energy is running low. Can you recharge me or give me a new Energy Panel?"
"I want to recharge too!" Bai Tang said with frustration. "What does your Energy Panel look like? I've dug up quite a bit of junk; I don't know if there's anything you need among it."
"This is what an Energy Panel looks like." It opened its chest and pointed to the components inside for Bai Tang to see.
"There are actually a few!" After seeing what the Energy Panel looked like, Bai Tang smiled.
