Bai Tang does not often enter the Kitchen—cooking at home is usually done by Bai Ma and Wu Xuemei in turns—but she enjoys cooking. Occasionally preparing a meal feels like completing a work of art to her, which is why the dishes she makes are incredibly delicious; they are infused with the sincerity and care of the cook.
Captain does not know that Bai Tang is the owner of the Huaxia catering group. Watching the "high-end" Kate General and his two Assistants scratching their heads at the door of the Kitchen, he can't help but feel curious. It's just a meal, is it really that exaggerated? After more than ten minutes, a rich aroma wafts out from the Kitchen, and Captain sniffs, finally understanding General's behavior. Such fragrant food makes his mouth water, and he can't control his desire to eat! It smells so good; when will the dishes be served?
“Bai Tang, is it ready yet?” Kate wipes the corner of her mouth and knocks on the door to ask. Damn, I can't take it anymore; it smells too good.
“Have you never heard that slow work produces fine products? You can't rush to eat hot tofu! Just wait a bit longer!” Bai Tang replies leisurely, but her hands are not slow as she pours the chopped meat into the frying pan, stir-frying to evaporate the moisture, then adding oil and various seasonings to create a fragrant meat sauce. The aroma once again makes those outside swallow hard.
“Okay, come in and help me serve the dishes!” Bai Tang calls out to those outside.
“I'll do it!” Feijie quickly darts into the Kitchen, and soon comes out carrying a large pot of bright red dishes. Bai Tang follows behind him, holding a large tray filled with over twenty bowls: six bowls contain clumped noodles, six bowls hold pungent red chili oil, six bowls of fragrant meat sauce, six bowls of steaming Sour Soup, and six empty bowls.
Kate eagerly takes the tray, glances at what's on top, and curiously asks, “Is this noodles? Why does it look different from what I usually eat? Why are there so many bowls?”
Simon leans in to take a look and praises, “So beautiful!”
The noodles are as thin as dragon whiskers, piled together in the bowl like flower buds about to bloom, resembling a dragon coiling beautifully.
“This is a local dish from Ancient Earth Huaxia, called Noodle with Dots, also known as one noodle three tastes. The noodles are long and chewy, while the sauce is oily but not greasy, tangy yet fragrant; savoring it slowly leaves a lasting aftertaste,” Bai Tang says as she sits down at the table.
“How do we eat it?” Everyone's eyes are fixed on Bai Tang, including the composed He Hangtan.
“First, take a sip of the Sour Soup!” Bai Tang scoops a spoonful of hot soup into her mouth; that flavor is truly refreshing. Fortunately, everyone seated has good teeth and won't suffer from sourness.
“This soup has such character!” Kate exclaims while holding her cheeks.
Bai Tang chuckles softly: “This soup is meant to stimulate your appetite.”
"The first way to eat it is to put the Noodle with Dots into an empty bowl, add a third of the minced lean meat, drizzle with an appropriate amount of chili oil, and mix well before eating. This method is also called 'Mushy Minced Noodles.' The minced meat is soft but not broken, and the noodles are evenly thick, making it a delightful experience." Bai Tang demonstrated this, and everyone followed her actions, quickly enjoying their noodles.
"Delicious!" the other five praised as they ate.
"The second way to eat it is to dip the noodles into a special Sour Soup, swirl them around, then place them in an empty bowl. Next, add some chili and minced meat, mix well, and enjoy. This second method is also known as 'Bridging Noodles,' which has a sour taste that is not overwhelming and leaves you wanting more."
"The third way is to combine the Noodle with Dots with Sour Soup and minced meat, called Sour Soup Noodles with Minced Meat. The flavors of the Sour Soup and the minced meat blend together, making the Sour Soup noodles incredibly delicious and leaving people applauding after eating."
Noodle with Dots is a local delicacy from Sanyuan, Shaanxi. Bai Tang saw it on a television program and immediately drooled over it. Later, she specifically went to Sanyuan to have an authentic Noodle with Dots meal and secretly learned the skills from a master chef there.
"So delicious!" Kate swallowed the last bite of noodles and looked eagerly at Bai Tang. "Can we have another serving?"
Bai Tang shrugged her shoulders. "We're out of ingredients."
Kate's head drooped down.
"General, there are other dishes even without noodles!" Feijie reminded his General.
Kate's eyes lit up as she looked at a pot of food in the center of the table and asked Bai Tang, "What dish is this?"
"Dry Pot Ribs!" Bai Tang picked up a piece of rib, took a bite, and found it fragrant, spicy, and numbing—delicious!
"Is this also Huaxia cuisine?" He Hangtan asked. "Can we find it at Huaxia Restaurant or Huaxia Eatery?"
Compared to Noodle with Dots, the spicy Dry Pot Ribs were more favored by He Zhongxiao. As soldiers with high physical activity levels, they preferred eating meat.
"Not right now, I'll teach the head chef at the restaurant after I return to Capital Star."
"Bai Tang, could you give me a recipe?" Kate said, her mouth full of food, leaning in flatteringly.
"Lord Bai Tang, could you also teach our chef on the Spaceship how to make these two dishes?" Captain asked shyly.
"Alright, you all take notes. Don't expect me to repeat it a second time." As soon as Bai Tang finished speaking, everyone, including He Hangtan, opened their holographic devices to record Bai Tang's words.
"The key to Noodle with Dots is making the Sour Soup and the noodles. Use an appropriate amount of Pork Bones and Chicken Bones to make the broth, add Star Anise, Cinnamon, Sichuan Pepper, scallions, and ginger. After boiling, skim off the foam and filter out the clear broth. Remove any impurities from the pot, then add vinegar and cook with the fresh broth. Once it's well simmered, adjust with an appropriate amount of salt to create a delicious Sour Soup... After kneading the dough, use a rolling pin to press it back and forth into a rectangular shape. Then lay it flat on the board and use two rolling pins to roll it into thin sheets about three millimeters thick. Fold it into a long shape and place it on the board, then cut it into thin strips with a large knife. When rolling the dough, use Yellow Rice Flour to prevent sticking... After cooking the noodles, place them in a cold water basin and roll them into round balls; that’s how you make Noodle with Dots..."
"The method for Dry Pot is a branch of Hot Pot, originating from Ancient Earth Huaxia Country Deyang City in Sichuan Province. Compared to Hot Pot and soup pots, it has less broth but more flavor; there’s no need to order dishes separately as the ingredients are relatively fixed and can be eaten directly. In terms of preparation, Dry Pot is more convenient than Hot Pot and Chinese Cuisine. Besides using ribs as the main ingredient, you can also make Dry Pot chicken, Dry Pot duck, Dry Pot fish, Dry Pot rabbit, Dry Pot bullfrog, Dry Pot shrimp, Dry Pot beef, etc..."
He Hangtan closed his holographic device with a blank expression: "Cooking is a profound art."
The other four nodded repeatedly; they didn't understand any of what Bai Tang had explained! As for the seasonings mentioned by Bai Tang, they didn't recognize any of them! No wonder the Chef's status was higher than that of the Spaceship Pilot!
"We've arrived at Gait Star!" Cheers erupted in the cabin as passengers looked at the planet coming into view; their hearts finally settled back into peace.
