"There are still potatoes in the kitchen; I can make potato stew for everyone," a middle-aged woman volunteered. "I run a restaurant, and I'm the head chef. Although my dishes aren't as exquisite as those from a big hotel, my home-cooked meals taste really good."
Youfu scratched his face awkwardly and said, "Um, we've used up all the gas in the kitchen, so Sister Zeng can't cook anything."
"Huh?" Sister Zeng and the other refugees were all stunned. Without gas, how could they cook?
"There are plenty of wooden tables and chairs in the farmhouse; we can chop them up to make a fire for cooking!" suggested the veteran Zhang Jingze.

Everyone present was quite handy—otherwise, they wouldn't have escaped from the city so quickly. Before long, they had lit two bonfires. They hung two iron pots over the fire with wire: one for cooking rice and the other for making dishes.
Several young girls actively helped Sister Zeng, and after an hour and a half, they produced four large bowls of dishes and a pot of steaming hot sweet potato porridge. The dishes included beef stew with potatoes, chicken stew with potatoes, stir-fried cabbage with vinegar, and pork with vermicelli. His family was also the only complete family among the refugees without any casualties. This was thanks to his parents' professions. With better physical condition, their resistance to the zombie virus was greater than others', so none of them had turned into zombies; instead, they had awakened special abilities. Li Bin and his father had metal abilities, while his mother had wood abilities. Relying on their powers, the three of them escaped from a densely populated zombie area and later teamed up with Zhang Jingze, who had awakened fire abilities that were more powerful than those of other ability users, naturally becoming their team leader.
As soon as he finished speaking, distant zombie howls echoed through the air. Everyone turned to look at the boy, their eyes conveying "you jinx." The boy covered his mouth in surprise; he really had just spoken casually.
"Someone's coming!" Bai Tang had the sharpest senses and was the first to hear the sound of a vehicle approaching. "The zombies are chasing after those people."
"I'll go take a look!" Zhang Jingze put down his bowl and quickly walked outside.
Bai Tang stood up. "I'll go check too."
Youfu and Jiang Miao knew her skills well and felt reassured about Bai Tang. However, those who didn't know her strength urged her not to go outside.
"Sister, it's enough to have a brother outside; you shouldn't go out, it's too dangerous!" Sister Zeng quickly stopped Bai Tang, seeing such a delicate girl heading outside. Was she going out to cause trouble for Zhang Jingze or to deliver food to the Zombie?
Bai Tang smiled slightly, "It's fine, I'm not afraid of Zombies! If I see a Zombie, I can just chop it down."
"Sister, you wouldn't have a crush on Zhang Brother, would you? Talking big just to be with him!"
Bai Tang was at a loss whether to laugh or cry. Sister Zeng, don't make me a target of jealousy; several girls are glaring at me! As the saying goes, beautiful women love heroes. At times when their lives are at risk, girls prefer strong men who can protect them. Although Zhang Jingze looks ordinary, he has a good physique, great abilities, and a kind heart. Sister Zeng gasped, "So Bai Family's girl is that powerful! I hope she won't be angry about what I said earlier."
"She won't! Bai Tang has a broad mind; she won't care about such things," Youfu replied. "She must have gone out to help Zhang Brother. With Bai Tang around, Zhang Brother will be safer!"
Zhang Jingze frowned at the safe Zhang Brother and said to Bai Tang in a low voice, "What are you doing out here?"
"Helping you!" Bai Tang replied with a smile.
"Go back!" Zhang Jingze commanded. "I don't need your help. Just staying inside the house without causing me trouble is helping me!"
Bai Tang raised an eyebrow. "Do you look down on women?"
Zhang Jingze maintained a serious expression. "Maybe you were impressive before the apocalypse, but now we are in the apocalypse. Our enemies are Zombies, flesh-eating monsters. If they scratch you, you'll become a monster like them! Do you have the guts to kill these monsters?"
Bai Tang smiled lightly. "How do you know I haven't killed Zombies? The number I've killed is no less than yours!"
Zhang Jingze certainly didn't believe her. Bai Tang continued, "You're not just an ordinary veteran, are you? Your skills, your aura, and that bloodthirsty vibe about you— you've truly experienced battles of blood and fire. You're from the country's special forces, aren't you?"
"How do you know?" Zhang Jingze admitted, but his expression was one of surprise. To have someone see through his identity made him reassess the woman in front of him.
"I know people similar to you!"
Zhang Jingze carefully examined Bai Tang from head to toe. "You're not from that department!"
"Of course not! I'm a laid-back person who doesn't like being bound by rules!"
"What exactly is your identity?"
"Is it really important? Shouldn't we be focusing on killing the Zombies right now?" Bai Tang raised her eyes to look into the distance. "There are about sixty or seventy Zombies; you need to be careful!"
"How do you know the number?"
"I saw them!"
"Are you an Ability user with enhanced vision?"
"No, my senses have always been better than others!"
"Then did you see who was being chased?"
"A man and a woman!" And they were acquaintances!
"I'm going in to get help!" Zhang Jingze assessed the situation and decided to go inside to find someone to assist; four people definitely couldn't handle sixty or seventy Zombies.
"No need!" Bai Tang extended a hand to stop Zhang Jingze.
