“Master——” Lady Li called earnestly. She was a Mother who would rather give up her own life than the life of her child.
“Just do as I say.” Li Laoye waved his hand decisively, and in response, he heard Lady Li's heart-wrenching sobs.
“Master, Master!” Li Butler rushed in, pulling Bai Tang along. “The lady and the young master will be fine! I have invited the White Divine Doctor!”
“White Divine Doctor?” Li Laoye was too grief-stricken to respond immediately. “Who is that?”
“The one who cured the eyes of Flower Family's Seventh Young Master,” the butler hurriedly explained.
“Oh?!” Li Laoye suddenly realized and turned to Bai Tang, pleading, “White Divine Doctor, please save my wife and child.”
“Alright!” Bai Tang wasted no time and walked directly into the delivery room, where two lives awaited her rescue.
The smell of blood in the delivery room was so strong that it made Bai Tang feel nauseous. She frowned as she approached the bed, pretended to check the pulse, then took out a bottle of Red Medicine and some Purifying Powder to feed to Lady Li, encouraging her softly, “Just a little more effort, and the baby will come out.”
Lady Li felt a profound change; just when she was about to give up, Bai Tang fed her the medicine, and her strength returned. Warmth filled her body, and with one final push, the baby was born smoothly. Hearing the baby's loud cries, an utterly exhausted Lady Li finally relaxed and fell asleep.
Bai Tang cradled the wrapped baby in her arms. The infant's face had turned slightly blue from being held back for too long, and its lungs had sustained some damage. If cared for properly, there would be no major issues; if not, tuberculosis was certain.
“You are destined to be Li Feidao!” Bai Tang said, tapping the baby's nose. The little one had cried himself to sleep, looking adorably ugly with his red face.
“How is my wife?” came Li Laoye's anxious voice from outside. A maid had already gone out to report the good news of his precious son’s birth, but Li Laoye was not happy; his mind was solely on his wife. Why had her cries suddenly stopped? What had happened?
“She is fine. She just fell asleep from exhaustion,” replied the untroubled Midwife. “The medicine from the White Divine Doctor is remarkable; it not only helped her deliver smoothly but also prevented a potential hemorrhage.”
“Yes, yes!” The troubled Midwife echoed perfunctorily, her face pale. Hadn’t she completed what her employer asked? Surely there wouldn’t be any problems? After all, she had done what she could; it was just that Lady Li and Li Family's young master were incredibly lucky to have encountered a divine doctor who saved them both. Regardless, she had acted; they should reward her.
Both Li Laoye and Li Huai Le sighed in relief; their wife (mother) was safe now, allowing them to focus on their newly born son (brother). The two looked eagerly at the door of the delivery room. When would they get to hold their son (brother)? Why was it that men were not allowed in the delivery room?
Carrying the baby out of the delivery room, Bai Tang was immediately surrounded by the two men.
“White Divine Doctor, is my son alright?” Li Laoye asked as he took hold of little Guo'er.
Bai Tang informed Li Laoye about the monkey's situation: "If you want this child to be healthy, you should let him learn martial arts. Also, he must not drink alcohol."
"Thank you, White Divine Doctor." Hearing that his son's lungs were problematic, Li Laoye felt immense pain. He had once considered giving up on this child's life, and at that moment, he was filled with guilt. This was also one of the reasons he later spoiled his son. The Midwife had already taken advantage of the busy moment to wash away the powder residue from her nails with hot water. Declining Li Laoye's insistence to stay, Bai Tang returned home with a thick gift of gratitude from Li Laoye. Bai Ma had already prepared a large pot of dried tofu and beef brisket, while Bai Dad was rolling out noodles, so they would be able to eat soon.
"Tang Tang, did you go to the Li Family today? Did the Li Family have any negative impact because we didn't send Xun Huan to their house?" White Mother asked as she saw the water in the pot boiling and tossed long strips of dough into it.
"Of course not!" Bai Tang leaned against the kitchen door, holding chopsticks in one hand and a bowl filled with beef brisket in the other. "I happened to arrive just as Lady Li was giving birth; Li Xunhuan was born."
Bai Dad was surprised and put down his knife: "Li Feidao is not our family’s Xun Huan, right?"
Bai Tang swallowed a piece of beef brisket: "It turns out he is not; Li Feidao is someone else entirely. Our family’s Xun Huan is just fine being a farmer at home."
Bai Dad lamented: "I was thinking of going to town tomorrow to have the blacksmith make a set of flying daggers for Xun Huan to play with!"
Bai Ma was displeased: "Why give such things? Sending knives for a child to play with? Aren't you afraid he might hurt himself?"
Bai Dad: "Xun Huan is not an ordinary child; he is the child of Erlang Shen."
Bai Ma: "Even if he is a deity's child, he is only one year old; what does he understand? Stop messing around! If you're bored, go tend to your fields."
Mentioning his fields made Bai Dad happy: "The first batch of vegetables in the greenhouse is almost ready; I will pick some for you all to taste."
"What about those farmers?" Bai Tang was curious about the reactions of others.
Bai Dad laughed, "Of course they were shocked. They actually compared me to their ancestor, Shifu. Haha, I'm just like Lu Ban now."
Bai Tang said, "Dad, calm down."
Bai Dad replied, "I can't calm down! By the way, the glass from the Flower Family is already on sale. They specifically opened a shop in our Luozhen. Li the Old Man and the others decided to go to town to buy glass in a couple of days so everyone can build vegetable greenhouses together."
"That was fast?" Bai Tang was surprised.
Bai Ma said, "You gave them all the detailed recipes. The Flower Family followed the recipe, so of course they could produce glass quickly. The sooner they sell it, the sooner they make money. Can they not be quick?"
Bai Tang nodded, "That's true."
The noodles were boiling in the water. Bai Ma fished them out and checked; they were done, so she began to serve them into bowls.
"Stop just eating by yourself and hurry up and call your Mei Mei and Kang Xi for dinner."
"I already sent Karen Adrian to call them," Bai Tang said lazily, as she hadn't finished her meat yet!
Bai Ma frowned at this: "Tang Tang, what's going on between you and Karen Adrian? With how close you are, why hasn't it developed into that kind of relationship?"
Bai Tang paused and said, "Mom, don't worry about it. It's not possible for us."
Bai Tang placed her empty bowl on the stove and helped Bai Dad and Bai Ma serve the noodles out of the kitchen. "I made a pact with Karen Adrian; he will only be my assistant for a few years. Once the time is up, we'll dissolve the contract and let him go back. He doesn't have the ability to travel through time and space, so our lives won't intersect again."
Bai Ma and Bai Dad exchanged glances and sighed, "It's up to you two then! But you’re not young anymore; when will you let us hold our Sunzi?"
"Aren't there three Sunzi for you to hold now?" Bai Tang gestured toward the two Shota who had just entered and the bun being held by Wu Xuemei.
"You always find excuses. Now your Mei Mei has suitors; you should learn from her," Bai Ma said.
"What? Mei Mei has a suitor? What kind of person is he? How is his character?" Bai Tang exclaimed, her eyes nearly popping out. However, looking at Wu Xuemei now, it wasn't impossible. With the improvements to her body from the Gene Enhancer and Elixir provided by Bai Tang, Wu Xuemei, in her thirties, had the physical capabilities of an eighteen or nineteen-year-old girl. Her appearance looked even younger, and combined with the charm of a mature woman and the confidence of a modern woman, distinct from ancient women, she was indeed full of allure. Wu Xuemei's face turned completely red. It was quite embarrassing to have a young suitor when her son was already this big. Life is long, and like her parents, Bai Tang didn’t want to see Wu Xuemei live alone forever. Besides, she had good judgment and knew what should be kept private; she wouldn’t tell anyone about Bai Tang's time-traveling abilities or cultivation matters, even if that person might become the closest person in her life.
Xing Xiaokang's eyes widened: "Mom is going to remarry? Uncle Tian is going to be my stepfather?"
"If it's true, would you accept it?" Bai Tang asked.
Xing Xiaokang shifted in his chair and grunted, "If it were someone else, I wouldn't agree; but if it's Uncle Tian, I can reluctantly accept!"
Bai Tang was surprised: "You have a good impression of Hetian Jade!"
Xing Xiaokang excitedly replied: "Uncle Tian has great martial skills; he often takes me and Xifei flying. It's so thrilling!"
Bai Tang turned to Wu Xuemei: "Mei Mei, you should just invite Hetian Jade over to your house. Your son has already been won over!" (To be continued)
