Lightning Weasel and Old Monster saw Li Rui lying on the ground, retching heavily. They approached him, patting his back with concern, as he had been in free fall for half an hour. Once his stomach felt a bit better, he sat up, wiped his mouth, and cursed, casting a disdainful glance at the one person and one beast who seemed unaffected and were watching him embarrassingly.
After he vented his frustrations, he noticed the unusual terrain around them. They were standing in a vast circular cave, with protruding rocks that looked quite old. Looking up, they realized the hole they had fallen through was long gone, replaced by yellow rocks.
"What kind of place is this?" Li Rui stood up and turned around but found no exit, so he plopped back down on the ground.
"Something's off; there should be an exit. Let's search carefully," Old Monster said, pressing his ear against the rock to listen for any sounds behind it, his expression serious.
"Did you find anything, Old Monster?" Li Rui also leaned in to press his ear against the rock.
"There’s a terrible smell coming from here," Lightning Weasel, who had been sniffing continuously, remarked.
Li Rui was clearly unhappy; one found an exit, another detected a smell, while he discovered nothing. Just as he was about to take a frustrated step forward, the ground began to shake violently, causing rocks above them to start falling.
Just when they thought the enclosed cave would collapse, it eerily stopped shaking, and a loud roar echoed from somewhere unknown. The three exchanged glances and nodded before launching an attack against the wall.
Boom! The thick stone wall couldn’t withstand the force and collapsed, revealing a dark corridor before them. The two beings and one beast were surprised but cautiously stepped into the black passageway. As they walked through it, they remained alert, unsure of what might spring out from any direction. Suddenly, another roar from a beast echoed ahead, heightening their vigilance again. They walked for what felt like ages until the surroundings began to brighten.
"Old Monster, is there something waiting for us up ahead?" Li Rui placed his hands behind his head, trying to appear calm.
"Let’s take a look; we’ll find out soon enough. It’s definitely not anything good," Old Monster replied.
"Well then, it’s good practice for us," Li Rui quickened his pace to catch up with Lightning Weasel, who was leading the way. "Do you smell anything strange?"
"You asked that; do you think I wouldn’t notice?"
"Oh."
After taking two steps, the surroundings suddenly opened up. They really couldn't understand where the light that illuminated this closed-off place came from.
Once their eyes slightly adjusted to the sudden brightness, they were faced with something even more mind-boggling: a pair of enormous eyes, larger than their own heads, staring intently at them.
The three of them thought to themselves that it was bad news and slowly began to retreat. Just then, a massive boulder fell from above, blocking their path.
"We're about to become someone else's meal," Li Rui said, staring at those eyes.
"What is that thing? Its mouth is as big as a cave," Old Monster said, baffled and unsure how to respond.
"Jiao Long," Lightning Weasel replied based on the memories passed down from his clan. "It has been hungry for years and will swallow anything it sees."
"Don't move. If we don't attack it, it shouldn't attack us," Old Monster advised.
"There's no need for hostility. We didn't mean to disturb you; we were forced into this situation," Li Rui said foolishly as he tried to talk to Jiao Long while moving to the side. Old Monster shot him a disdainful glance and followed suit.
With a loud roar, Jiao Long shook the entire area.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
Jiao Long's heavy body stomped on the ground, each step feeling like it was crushing Li Rui's heart, making him tremble.
"Damn ants, surrender obediently!"
"You foul bug, you wish!"
The three stopped moving as the massive tail of Jiao Long suddenly swept towards them. Not good, they jumped in three different directions to evade Jiao Long's attack.
"We'll attack it from three directions. We won't get out of here unless we take it down," Old Monster shouted.
His voice quickly attracted Jiao Long's second attack, as it swung its enormous tail towards Old Monster. Old Monster rolled away just in time, but Jiao Long seemed to anticipate his move and changed direction to strike again.
Li Rui, sensing the situation was dire, picked up a large rock nearby and infused it with internal energy before throwing it. The rock, not too big, struck Jiao Long on the thigh.
"Roar!"
Jiao Long let out a pained roar, furious that these three ants dared to offend it. This was simply unacceptable!
Damn it! These three ants, which were supposed to fill its belly, had actually caused it harm. How could it not be enraged?
However, Jiao Long's target remained the more formidable Old Monster.
Thus, Li Rui's attack did not stop Jiao Long from striking Old Monster with its tail. Old Monster took the hit; fortunately, as a cultivator, he was injured but not severely.
Jiao Long twisted its massive body and approached Old Monster. Li Rui gathered his spiritual energy in his palm and ran towards the dragon. "Let's attack together."
Lightning Weasel also charged out at the sound, aiming for Jiao Long's head with a thunderous strike. Jiao Long was infuriated by the attack and slammed its leg down onto the ground. The tremors caused rocks to fall from the ceiling of the cavern. Old Monster used this opportunity to retreat to a corner and regulate his chaotic internal energy while Lightning Weasel roared and charged forward.
"Don't!" Li Rui's shout came just a moment too late. He smashed the falling rocks aimed at him with his spiritual energy and followed suit.
Jiao Long was clever as well; after letting out a loud roar, it raised its tail and swung it around again. Li Rui jumped off a rock to evade and immediately launched an attack that struck right at its neck.
The tail of Jiao Long swept over again, and Li Rui was knocked away by the powerful force.
"Bang!"
Li Rui's body was sent flying and crashed against the wall before coming to a stop.
Lightning Weasel suddenly flew into the air, landing on Jiao Long's head, and a bolt of lightning struck down, causing Jiao Long to twist its body in pain.
It shook off the Lightning Weasel from its head.
The Lightning Weasel's body was also slammed against the wall...
Li Rui and the others had heard about Jiao Long's strength; creatures as powerful as Jiao Long only appeared in legends, and ordinary people would never see them. However, encountering Jiao Long in such a special way was truly unfortunate, a calamity that meant certain death.
At this moment, Jiao Long was not fully enraged, and Li Rui could clearly sense that it was only using thirty percent of its power. Even so, that was already enough to overwhelm the three of them. Its current strength completely surpassed Li Rui's understanding of Jiao Long; it seemed that Jiao Long's true power was ten times stronger than what was said in legends.
But at this point, in order to survive, Li Rui and his companions had no choice but to risk their lives. If they completely angered Jiao Long, the three of them would instantly be reduced to a pile of minced meat. If they continued to fight like this, they might also suffer a painful death due to exhaustion.
