"Damn it, why won't they just go away!" Li Rui cursed, feeling the footsteps behind him getting closer, and he couldn't help but swallow hard.
"Is there really no way out?" Li Rui looked at the endless wasteland ahead.
Behind him were steep and perilous cliffs; one misstep could lead to a fatal fall.
To run or not to run?
Li Rui clenched his fists, the cold wind whipping through his hair, showcasing the vitality and handsomeness of his youth.
He couldn't be a coward any longer!
Li Rui stopped in his tracks, glancing at the radiant form of Lightning Weasel beside him, knowing it wanted to face the challenges head-on instead of fleeing.
Lightning Weasel's eyes shimmered with golden waves of light, its soft fur seemed to blend into one, ready for battle.
He felt a slight tremor underfoot, and the dust on the ground seemed to jump a little.
The sounds grew louder, and the Demon Beasts were getting closer.
"One..." Li Rui gestured with his hands, trying to gauge how many opponents were approaching by listening to their footsteps.
"There are three in total. Looks like it's still a big deal. Lightning Weasel, get ready for battle!" Li Rui assumed a fighting stance as the Demon Beasts appeared before him.
"Roar..." came a chilling and terrifying sound!
The ground suddenly split open, and clods of earth flew up before falling back down.
"To think... it actually drilled up from the ground..." Li Rui stared at the scene before him, somewhat dazed.
In the vast wasteland stood a Demon Beast resembling an elephant, looking quite formidable; however, it was just one of the Demon Beasts.
Two more Demon Beasts emerged in succession, one of which resembled a peacock and was rather beautiful.
Its plain yet elegant feathers covered its entire body, and its tail fanned out gracefully, looking stunning. Its sharp eyes seemed to pierce through Li Rui.
Sweat began to form in the palm of Li Rui's hand, and a look of panic involuntarily appeared on his face.
It felt like a fight with no chance of victory.
At that moment, the Lightning Weasel cast a sincere glance at Li Rui, hoping he wouldn't be intimidated by their numbers; otherwise, it would look down on him!
Encouraged by the Lightning Weasel, Li Rui regained his composure. He clenched his fists and told himself, I can do this! I will definitely succeed!
Li Rui muttered to himself.
The Demon Beasts charged forward without hesitation, launching a fierce attack.
Li Rui utilized his own strength to nimbly evade them.
A large pit immediately appeared on the ground, demonstrating just how powerful the Demon Beasts were!
Li Rui took a look around; the Demon Beast was several times stronger than him, yet it was at a higher level. The other two Demon Beasts seemed to be of the same level as well, suggesting they had reached some sort of consensus to seize the Dragon Fruit.
The Lightning Weasel was also unwilling to back down and launched an attack on the Demon Beasts, successfully drawing their attention away, essentially creating a distraction.
"Ah!" Before Li Rui could dodge, he felt a sharp pain in his back and fell from mid-air.
"That hurts." Fortunately, the injury wasn't too severe. Li Rui managed to get up with some effort, but his arm had already sustained several scratches.
Upon closer inspection, he realized that the one who attacked him was a small creature, yet it displayed a ferocity comparable to the other three.
He had initially detected three Demon Beasts; how could another one appear? Was his perception failing him? Li Rui worried silently.
This Demon Beast looked so cute and small, yet its strength far exceeded that of the other Demon Beasts.
Its soft fur combined with a noble purple hue, and its golden eyes sparkled with a sharp gaze, as if it wanted to devour Li Rui.
Li Rui swallowed hard and turned to look at the battling Lightning Weasel. He decided to muster his courage and confront this high-level Demon Beast in a fight to the death.
The sharp claws emerged and lunged directly at Li Rui. He easily dodged it without any pressure at all.
But… that was not the reality.
Just as Li Rui dodged, a beam of light attacked him.
"Ah!" Li Rui was knocked down to the ground once again.
"What happened?" Li Rui still didn't understand the situation and looked dazedly at the wild cat.
Originally, there were four or five cats that had transformed into one entity; the dazzling image seemed to linger in Li Rui's mind.
It can split itself? It actually can split itself?
Li Rui's face was filled with surprise; truly, one should not judge a beast by its appearance.
As he watched the cat getting closer, his instinctive survival skills forced him to stand up.
The blood-soaked Lightning Weasel, seeing Li Rui in danger, rushed over to rescue him but was unfortunately entangled by three Demon Beasts and was knocked away with a jolt.
"Lightning Weasel..." Seeing Lightning Weasel lying on the ground, Li Rui felt a pang of heartache and wanted to help it up.
Fortunately, Lightning Weasel recovered quickly and managed to dodge just in time before the Demon Beasts could attack again.
Li Rui took a deep breath, but it seemed he had forgotten his predicament.
"Smack!" The cat's claw scratched across his body, tearing his already disheveled clothes and leaving behind bloodstains.
"Damn it!" Li Rui knew very well that he had been in a passive state all along.
Continuing like this was not a solution. He needed to come up with a plan.
What kind of plan?
Li Rui observed the situation in his surroundings while dodging the attacks of the Cat Demon Beast.
The area around him was mostly an empty plain, suitable for combat, except for the cliffs ahead.
Moreover, this region was not very stable, often experiencing earthquakes and other disasters. If he could use this to his advantage, it might not be a bad idea.
In any case, he had to give it a try!
Li Rui took long strides and ran frantically toward the lower part of the cliff.
The Cat Demon Beast didn't care what tricks he was playing and followed right after him.
Dragon Fruit was a valuable item; after all, whoever obtained it would be in for a treat!
"Whoosh..." A stone he stepped on suddenly fell into the valley below. Li Rui stared into the eyes of the Cat Demon Beast, sensing a hint of panic.
It was afraid—afraid that if Li Rui fell, there would be no Dragon Fruit left!
Holding onto a glimmer of hope, he whistled.
This immediately attracted the Lightning Weasel.
They all closed in on Li Rui.
Li Rui breathed steadily and continued to fall straight down.
The four Demon Beasts were suddenly in a panic; now the Dragon Fruit had no place to go.
They didn't notice that the Lightning Weasel had already unleashed its ultimate move behind them.
Caught off guard, they were struck down in one blow and fell off the cliff.
At last, it was over.
"Well done!" Li Rui's voice rang out as hands slowly climbed up to the cliff's edge.
It turned out that Li Rui hadn't jumped down; he was just maintaining his position against the stone wall, waiting for news from the Lightning Weasel.
He didn't expect the Lightning Weasel to be so impressive! Li Rui happily looked at the Lightning Weasel and made a gesture for a high-five, only to be shocked by an electric jolt!
Yes, we won!
