Fortunately, life in this world has its meaning. The human race, which survived the initial endless battles, finally gained the strength to move forward during the time of rest and recuperation among the various races. The wisdom and thoughts bestowed by the Creator began to shine with a glimmer of hope. They collected everything they could find to study healing medicines and sharpen deadly weapons, growing stronger bit by bit. Until that day, when the most powerful leader of humanity—Xuanyuan—encountered the first dragon clan leader who had fallen in battle in the hunting grounds. No one knows what method Xuanyuan used, but from that moment on, a formidable Specter appeared by his side, the Dragon Emperor—Nine-Clawed Golden Dragon. And thus began the era of the Embalmer!
For the prosperity of humanity, Xuanyuan and the Dragon Emperor conducted research and finally obtained a Cultivation Method that allowed them to subdue Specters and harness their power, enabling the once weak human race to gain strength to compete with other powerful races.
The great war at the dawn of the world seemed like a blessing, making humanity the biggest winner. Countless powerful and battle-hardened Specters came under human control; these Specters understood the weaknesses of various races, allowing humanity to avoid calamities and seize opportunities. With such advantageous tools, humanity began to conquer, eliminating one enemy after another while other races were too weak to fight back. They actively initiated battles for countless years until finally, ten thousand years ago, humanity stood supreme across the land!
However, prosperity must decline. After vanquishing external foes, humanity became brutal and warlike, unable to settle into a peaceful life, leading to internal strife. Countless lords relied on their powerful Specters to wage wars; they even sought to bring down Xuanyuan, the founding hero of humanity!
It was a war that lasted for thousands of years, as if the fading alien races were retaliating against humanity. Humans found themselves being slaughtered by alien Specters in return. At the end of the war, only eight lords remained who agreed to unite their forces and battle in the hunting grounds to eliminate Xuanyuan, who had settled there since quelling the alien races and no longer intervened in worldly affairs. They aimed to destroy this most powerful human and divide the world among themselves!
Initially, Xuanyuan advised the eight lords to cease hostilities for peace's sake so they could govern their people and thrive without his interference. But how could they tolerate anyone more powerful than themselves? As battle loomed, Xuanyuan, as a founding hero of humanity, was immensely strong; he easily defeated eight opponents without even summoning Nine-Clawed Golden Dragon, scattering their armies.
After his victory, Xuanyuan realized that while humanity thrived on Specters, it could also decline because of them. He confiscated all Cultivation Methods related to Specters from across the land and destroyed them. He sealed away and transcended all Evil Souls in existence. Finally, he established an altar and gathered five trusted confidants to impart the last methods for cultivating Specters so that they and their descendants could embalm souls that could not be transcended—thus becoming Embalmers. He then ascended into immortality, dissipating between heaven and earth. Before leaving, he uttered a single phrase: "You fail, but I will not."
What followed marked the beginning of recorded civilization in Huaxia. This is also how Embalming came about—saving people, saving worlds, saving Specters as well. From thousands of years ago until now, Embalmers have continuously transformed Specters; coupled with alien races disappearing without a trace, this led to Specters becoming rare in the world. Consequently, Embalmers gradually had to rely on their own cultivation for growth.
Yet these secret histories even touch upon humanity's origins across vast lands—the Origin of Embalmers. Even within their own secret texts is little detailed information recorded about it; how did the Master of Mountain Water Maze come to know? If it was merely by chance that he learned it, that would be acceptable. What Qian Mo fears more is the second possibility—that this Specter has survived long enough to rival human history! Based on previous words from Maze Master, this second scenario seems even more likely! Who exactly is this being?
